Where your feet are in relation to your hips or Centre of Mass has major impacts on balance, your ability to capture energy from the snow and also your ability to transition. This is one of my major focuses when I'm skiing and particularly at the start of the season.

I just think you have the best short turns among public skiers. Perfect, athletic releasing which makes this huge deflection and snow spay. Just love it.

As one completes a turn and crosses the fall line on two flat skis is there a time when you place the uphill ski on the little toe edge?

Not sure if you can call 'short turns' a 'carving' 🙂

Paul, I see that you ski on RacingTigers. I have an FIS Head SL 165cm. I have a very hard time imitating your short turns. I love to see you go so low and make almost a U-turn on each side. I don't know if you have any experience with FIS Head SL skies. It does not like that U-turn-like turns. Head likes to bounce. It won't sit still and give you a g-force generating well-grounded turns. Do you think I should get RacingTigers FIS SL?

stay off the FIS skis. Unless you are a pro racer! I have skied most Head SL variants from the past two years and never had the problem you describe. FIS are really a different ski and are for pro racers who can push down to the moon and back, very stiff and hard work! All Heads i tried were very stable, more stable I felt than Racetiger SL....

@@duncanhails9353 This guy at ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UJ7ClCcI0w8.html is a farmer and carves pretty well on FIS. Can you tell me what I need to do to be a "pro racer" instead of not so subtly suggesting that I am not a pro racer? FYI, I appreciated your response. Also, I just got HEAD FIS and used it for 3 days. So I should be more patient, maybe.

@@ujaekang the guy in the clip, whilst maybe a farmer, has the look and feel of a (lets ignore the word pro here) very competent racer. My point regarding FIS was more about the ski than the person. FIS for racing all day long. If you ski on a day to day basis at full race pace (unusual), then enjoy the FIS but IMO, anyone on FIS skis should not be complaining about not being able to turn them!

@@duncanhails9353 Thanks for your comments. I live in MN. Typical ski hills are between 100m ~ 150m vertical drop. To make the most of it, I ski like sprinting. I can use FIS SL all day long, but I won't get tired because runs are so short. I want to point out that different ski makers seem to focus on different kinds of turning. HEAD seems to be obsessed with racing records. Volkl seems to be obsessed with expert demo skiers. As you can see, the best skiers, on RU-vid, who use Head carve-like rapid hopping. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2aJ04-LgNNI.html What I mean by that is Heads are good at carving concise and efficient arcs. I can carve like this with no problem. However, the best skiers on RU-vid who are using Volkl carve a very long arc, almost like a U-turn (what is also know as mid size turns on SL) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OKCvnIV6pQU.html I demoed Volkl last weekend and ended up buying an SL ski. I was right about the different types of turn between the two manufacturers. Head FIS SL lets me do high-frequency rapid carves. But I would go with Volkl if I want to do a U-turn-like longer arc carve to enjoy the maximum G-force effect. I just wanted to verify this with Paul. But for whatever reason, he is not responding. It is not surprising that Head dominates racing podiums because their design is for caving short and fast. Volkl is not good with racing records, but it sure can be more enjoyable outside of the racing courses. Nice discussing with you.

@@ujaekang it is nice to discuss. FWIW, iv have had the head SL Rebel WC (non FIS) on aggressive carving turns at 95kph. Unstable and scary but FUN! I ski in switzerland and french alps where drops of 1000m + are not uncommon. Pistes here are wide and steep, and if you can get onto FIS runs, then the skis are only limited by ability. I also skied the saslong on old (21/22 rebels SL) and that was an amazing run. Very scary!! Skied it again on Racetigers of a similar year and preferred the Heads, more stable. Racetigers were like an F15 fighter jet! At some point, I will make a trip to USA to ski, but TBH, Japan is on my list prior for the off piste and powder! Apologies again for being brusque about the whole PRO racer thing!

Hey Paul, do you steer more with your heels than say the balls of your feet?
@Rakingclaw4
@Rakingclaw4 8 месяцев назад
It’s subtle, but fore/front foot pressure will help with turn initiation and aft/heel pressure will allow the tail of the ski to dig in and complete your turns. It’s really handy on hard pack snow (or…the damn ice I ski on) if you find yourself skidding out at the bottom half of your turn. Play around and have fun!

@@Rakingclaw4 Thanks. Yes that’s my understanding as well. I’m gonna try to use my heels more this year for sure in my turns.
