Cold hands, perfect corduroy, best day of the season (so far) Coiler Contra 10m Cruising Wolley Bully then Sunshine Revelstoke January 13th 2024 #revelstoke #snowboardcarving #carvingturn
Such a beautiful day! Today should be even better with another pass by the groomer and slightly warmer temps. Gotta go make some turns right now - before it starts snowing again!
when you are taking hands to ground, then you always over incline and passing the tipping point down to ground, basically it is then by definition a Eurocarve, but you have indeed not much weight on the hands or elbow, but it is clear to see it is beyond tipping point. The clean carve that you praise would be without touching snow. Your tendency to Eurocarve was also very obvious in the black diamond piste video. Would be interesting how close you come with your head/shoulder to the ground with in best snow conditions,, without any piece of your body touching ground, during no phase of the turn. I saw also many hardbooters under estimating the hand touch of the snow. I believe there are some japanese riders out there, exercising it, but they have a more tucked position, which plays into their favor.
Well the Eurocarve is a down-unweighted turn while the pencil line is up-unweighted. So it's more than just how much weight is on the hand (or hip). Have a look at my "One Good Turn" short: higher on that section I use up-unweighting and then the last three turns are down-unweighted, more like a Eurocarve style. I would like to shoot more hands-in-pockets stuff with a bigger board when conditions improve. Sometimes it feels like my shoulder is almost dragging with my hands in my pockets but I haven't got it on video yet... The hand drag helps to stabilize me even with very little weight on it, the balance is tough on deep carves without it. And sure, in a screenshot it looks like I'm past the tipping point but the centrifugal force from the turn is holding me up, not just the hand drag.
@@cherrycarves thx. and yes , I agree that there is not much weight on your hands, but without hand on slope it would still tend to tip over. I thought that Eurocarve is everything that is beyond tipping point, but it seems you have definded it down unweighed. Probably you are right, I dont have much knowledge about history and the vitelli turn. I started 2016 with snowboarding and my example for Eurocarve was Tyler Chorlton, a freestyle rider. I learned from his videos and style and self experiments. Was also watching Ryan's approach and learning curve, but he tried to mimic the posi posi stance and that is in duck not good for the rear knee. So I pursued the Tyler Chorlton approach.
@@cherrycarves I can, no problem. Maybe you can help me, though. Your instructional videos are excellent. I still get some heel judder when I try to carve semi-circles on my BX board, which is not really designed for that. It wants to get down the mountain as fast as possible. What would be some setup (interface) fixes for heel judder?
hey I would love to learn those pencil line carves. I have my own boots (bodega double boa 23/24 flex 6). I am thinking about buying a very stiff binding (ex Flux CV). I am thinking what width of snowboard should I chose. I am wearing a 9US (40 EU) size boot. When I went to the rental office they didnt even know what stance width was... I ned to figure everthing on my own and be able to chose the right board at the rental office
Hey James, I really like you tutorials. No questions there, but: Friends and I are planning a trip to Canada next year. Do you have any recommendations for what time is the best for lift accessable powder? What region / ski area? And when is it the least crowded ( don't know if lift line waiting longer than 10 minutes is applicable in canada?) Hope you can help out! Greetings from the Netherlands...
I would have to say Revelstoke Mountain Resort is your best bet. If you really want the fresh powder, you should be prepared to be flexible; keep an eye on the forecasts and go where the snow is last minute.
Flow NX2 Carbon Fusion in this video. These are the stiffest binding I've ever seen, and have the lowest profile heelcup too to reduce boot out. Burton Driver X with a custom liner, custom plastic tongue and booster straps.
