Casamigos Tequila Review, Reposado and Blanco

a few drops is fine, yes. It doesn't matter if 60% of it is water, a bit more breaks apart the aroma. Of course, if you can't tell the difference due to lack of experience or what not, then you can either take our word for it or just not do it. Personally, I've moved away from doing it and use a better designed glass that helps focus the aromas. The Norlan glass is fantastic, that's what we use in all our newer reviews: amzn.to/2QjuoUW

+Shavian1 because its science. Why is vodka 60% water? Science! Because water breaks up the alcohol from the aroma molecules and allows the bright aroma to break out and jump into your nose. Swirling wine aerates it, swirling tequila doesn't... but water does.

Thanks for your reply. I did a bit of research and found dilution masks some flavor compounds and releases others. I guess that makes it six of one and a half a dozen of the other. I think I'll try some mixed with a bit of water but under more controlled conditions. I noticed you just pour it haphazardly into the snifter. It seems to me that method would produce a different result every time by masking or releasing different amounts of compounds according to how much water you use. Some research suggests you should only use several drops of water to release the compounds and using more would be counter productive. I guess it all depends on how how far you want to break it down. +Shavian1 if you want control get a dropper and use that. I've done plenty of spirit tasting events, water is not something unusual to use. When talking with tasters that do this for a living, I've found many use a dash of water to break up the aroma. Then there are those that don't do this for some styles of spirit. Or, you taste it straight, get your notes, add some water, get your notes. All in all, we are not here as professional tasters nor do we claim to be professional tasters. We're basically doing this for our own comparison and experience and just happen to film it so others can get a sense for what we did and take away what they want from it.

I have absolutely no idea why this one video out of the 3500 we have from 7 years ago did any specific thing. We shot 5 a week back then and we've been doing this for like nearly 13 years. It's all a blur

The blanco...probably no so much, I'd not recommend it today due to its price vs. taste compared to others on the market. never had the mezcal though.

sure, but many views want to know the tasting notes, so we give them. We have plenty of videos on reposado vs. blanco and types of tequila for those interested in that depth of knowledge.

dash of water brings out essential aromas and breaks up the alcohol to get the most out of the product. Learn science. Drinking out of the same glass? If that's a huge problem for you, there is no need to even address your issues.

fair estimate, we recently re-tasted it on the show against some other products that were cheaper and it ranked pretty low. I've actually had a hard time serving it in a few cocktails (trying to get rid of my bottle) because folks could taste the cotton-candy finish. They immediately knew what it was :/

no water...maybe add a drop of water, make up your mind. You don't have to like it, you can stop at any time. I suggest sooner than later... you know, so you don't get all angry and have to troll someone else's content. Go make your own reviews, I'll watch them and leave you some 'feedback' too.

Yep, it's youtube, I get "opinions" all day long and we do what we want to do because we enjoy it. Now, granted, you're critically reviewing a 5 year old video in which we can't 'take back' anything we've done. What's done is done. Do we do things a bit different in reviews today (where today equals 2016 and beyond)? Sure. But, do I necessarily care about someone's opinion on a 5 year old video? Nah, not really. Today, we use Norlan Glasses for most of our reviews as they're the best tasting glass on the market. Do we always add water? Nah, not always, but sometimes. However, the Norlan Glasses make it much less of a requirement. As for doing "research", I don't believe that's always needed. As a matter of fact, for this style of content, I prefer to do very little research because it influences the overall product review, especially when some of that research often suggests tasting notes and such. Sometimes the companies send over their PR sheets with history and all that--whatever, if you want to know the deep history of the brand, go read it on their website (80% of that will have been made up to sound good and make the product more justified on its pricing anyway). The only research I like to do when I can is find the average pricing or MSRP on the product. But, in many cases (especially in these older videos), this was a _hobby_ in which we often got together 1 hour after work to film a block of content for people to consume. The research and time investment wasn't always hugely committed because we didn't have that much time to invest in it. In todays content, that's a bit different as we've grown a lot more and people are taking the content more seriously so we take what we say more seriously (although we still joke around).

Sure is, but I wouldn't buy either to be honest. Casamigos is way too sweet, it has that "cotton candy" aftertaste which I get from a lot of the cheaper products...but at 3x the cost. I've bought two bottles, thought maybe the first was bad. I used the second one in some cocktails that we make with friends and every person that is a tequila lover put the drink down and was like "what's wrong with this? what did you use?" -- never a good sign.

Water brings out aromas, fact. Casamigos today, overpriced and way overrated. Not worth the price (did a recent review on it again years later)

Your right, now I can draw on the science of why and source links, but this is youtube… nobody is going to go read it. But believe me I am not here to try to convince you you do not have to believe what I say that is not really my problem or intention take it or leave it this is fine

it's funny you think we care about your feelings.

I have no problem with tequila manufacturers taking some shortcuts, if the end result is good (and you can tell the difference to begin with), but not for the price demanded of some of these tequilas. Casamigos is no doubt one of the most expensive products on the market--while I see no 100% concrete evidence they use a diffuser in their product, it would be shame to know you're spending extra for shortcuts. For new tequila drinkers, I don't think they'll tell the difference in the nuances of specific flavors (or flavor additives to make up the difference in stripped down flavor profile). I'm not 100% certain I could tell you a diffused brand from a traditional brand (although I'd love to try and see if I could!), but it's an interesting note.
