Thanks for the videos. I just got back into cb's and I've learned a lot more about tuning and setting up the antenna. Thank you

Hey J another awesome video! Appreciate what you're doing, time can be very short with everything that one has to do in life, so thanks for sending a video our way. That LMR 240 is great coax but very stubborn, as I mentioned before I fought it a bunch with my pickup. Next time I will for sure be using crimp on connectors with a crimping tool used specifically for coax. Its been enjoyable going on road trips and hearing the chatter over the radio, can be quite comedic! Keep your knees in the breeze and the shiny side up!

Thank you, and I learned about the crimp pl259 from another viewer and confirmed by the folks at DX Engineering, even though someone will come along and say otherwise. 😉

Hey J great video. I’m going from a Kw T800 Dump Truck and back into a Hauling grain with a hopper bottom and I will be driving a Freightliner cascadia for the first time since I got my Cdl license 20 years ago. Your other videos helped on my Cb install in that Kenworth so I look forward to this next adventure. I don’t need that Wilson Magnetic antenna but could I get Betty’s number if you get time? 😂😂😂 Great job brother and keep ‘‘em coming

Nice vid bud...Only thing i would change is all the braided straps on your grab handles...They are connected to the rear cab wall already and the rf should travel...I to have been looking how to get to chassie up front but im guessing what you did from cab to shock would do the trick....Im like yourself a trial n error guy but i would say door to cab,cab to firewall then what you did out back should cover all the rf travel needs. I gotta do my passenger side door and back of cab,house stuff gets its requirements 1st. ..Keep uo the vids bud,nice work..

Thank you sir, I did a coworkers identical truck and at the pass side firewall we went to the frame ground, and on the driver's side went from the firewall to the motor. I got to get time to trial and error other stuff, but my Coronado was mush better than this cascadia is

@@jrichtruckincbtips Sweet....If you get the chance in another id,show your firewall to frame/engine stuff to if you dont mind... Funny how one trk is better than the other,both basically same cab shell and how they are mounted..Must be bonding agents or anti corrosion crap on mount points to chassie....Good thing is you gained with bonding..2 thumbs up sir..

@@craig_sez8534 IMO, the main reasons the Coronado is better 1. It has an aluminum roof vs fiberglass. 2. Steel bumper vs plastic. 3. Basically more metal. There were many nights that I could turn the squelch totally off and be static free in the Coronado. The Cascadia no way to be static free, yet!
@craig_sez8534

@@jrichtruckincbtips Cool about the roof,yeah that would make a diff for sure..Day cab is different than a full sleeper which is where my thinking sits. I cant say how much if any the bumper material would make a difference

It's a game changer, if you have quality coax and antenna and the antenna is mounted in a good location.

Why is it every time we buy a new truck factory cb they have no range and cb red light antenna lights up. For example we just purchased a Volvo vhd factory dual antennas looks like the coax is a mini coax .
@jrichtruckincbtips
@jrichtruckincbtips 2 года назад
Because the factory coax and antennas are junk, and not tuned. It's better to replace it all, I prefer a single antenna anyway.

Hey J love your video I just got into a 2022 daycab cascadia company truck in September it has the factory mount on the drivers side wall just above and slightly back of door. It came with a 3 ft wire wound fiberglass antenna. Do you know how many feet the factory coax is? I want to change my stuff out too but just not sure which way I want to run antenna. I pull a trash transfer trailer and am thinking about the Wilson mirror mount with perch that uses 2 of the torx mounting bolts then installing my Wilson 2000 but I need to some how run my 18 ft of coax. I’m half tempted to just mount my galaxy 99 on the dash in that square recessed area there with heavy duty Velcro. I’ll just use the power point plugs for power I have 3. I just don’t feel like taking everything apart. Right now I’m using that factory mount with a 4 ft Francis antenna my swr is 1.3 on all 40 channels I can’t use the Wilson 2000 in that mount because it’s too close to body and swr was over 3 I also tried a 4 ft skipshooter and a fire stick but the Francis worked the best just not happy with the range have you tried the fire stick Il ? Just not interested in taking everything apart and quite honestly I hate reaching up to turn the buttons on radio in that center console. Miss my kw t800 older daycab with west coast mirrors everything was easier THANKS FOR SHARING YOUR VIDEO !!
@jrichtruckincbtips
@jrichtruckincbtips Год назад
No clue on the factory coax. Going to the mirror isn't bad, but the Wilson 2k is about the worst antenna to use. I'd use a 6'-7 foot Skip Shooter or firestik. You'll push the coax through the firewall and under the dash.

@@jrichtruckincbtips hey J I was wondering if you’ve tried any of the newer firestick 2 antennas with hand tune tips? I was thinking of trying one on the 2022 cascadia body mount before going to mirror with the optional mounting bracket
@jrichtruckincbtips
@jrichtruckincbtips Год назад
@I AM KAZIE yeah they're a good antenna just measure from the base to the ground and get the antenna as tall as possible but stay below 13'6". And the driver's side is the antenna for the CB and the passenger side is for am/fm radio. Firestik makes a 3' and 4' antenna for am/fm radio also

J can I get some input? I’ve got a cobra 29 lx I’m gonna be putting in my Ram flatbed. However I can’t decide what the best antenna would be. I’d like to either mount on a bar of the headache rack or a mag mount on top of the headache rack. What would you recommend?
@jrichtruckincbtips
@jrichtruckincbtips 2 года назад
I'd prefer the rack, and antenna choice based on any height requirements.

I drive a 2022 cascadia with a sleeper. In your opinion which mount is best, mirror mount or spot mirror mount? Also is it ok to lean an antenna away from the cab forward, I've heard that sends your signal into the ground.
@jrichtruckincbtips
@jrichtruckincbtips Год назад
Mirror mount on drivers side. Use an antenna at least 6' or taller, I would also use a high quality coax rg400 to reduce interferences of the dashboard electronics. Leaning the antenna forward is almost a guaranteed must to reduce reflection and lower the swr. I also highly suggest RF Bonding the truck if possible. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ohkOX45dJn0.html

I installed new coax and radio and power from the battery in my peterbilt 579. But I'm getting rf burn from my metal mic cord. I have brand new K40 coax. It's not my power wires, or my mic. Swr is 1.4 on channel 1 which I was using. What could be my issue

Try running a ground strap from the back of the radio to a metal part of the cab.

What's the deal with the side cab mount antenna pods that the older Cascadia's have with all the interior work your doing to mount on the back of the cab can't you run a ground plain off the side pods and run it down to the floor and run a strap from the under side to the chassis? And I'm guessing those side cab pods are just fine if your not running a high power 10 meter radio, I've had several of those older trucks and those side pods work fine but my radio wasn't a power radio even though it was a 10 meter galaxy tuned it wasn't doing more then 15-20 watts pep.. Appreciate your video's and the reason I'm asking I have a older Cascadia sleeper and I have a little more powerful radio but I don't want to run one of those mirror mount brackets I don't really care for them what other options do I have? I know they have a mount off the passenger side convex mirror over the door not liking that option either..
