I remember getting a toy tractor from a Case IH dealer back then and the invoice said " Nothing kills a Deere like a Magnum ".

I was just 3 years old when this video came out. I remember when these tractors were new. The nostalgia of this video brings me back in time...

Awesome tractors. The powershift transmission was built by Ih back in early 80s

Not quite. The new CaseIH corp. Reworked it and tested the new design. Filed a dozen or so patents on the new components. Quite an upgrade done to it after the merger.

@@LanceStoddard IH was the best thing to happen to Case they had nothing in the early 80s that came close to IH technology and innovation the 50 series International was the base for the Magnum, IH never got the credit they deserved.
@LanceStoddard
@LanceStoddard 4 дня назад
@@thomassutherland4470 Put credit where it belongs. CaseIH spent two years designing and testing the powershift. Case did have more tech in Hyd-electro shifting than IH. The engine was CDC (Case-Cummins) partnership started in 1980. Their 8.3L Turbo is a diesel engine classic. IH, Cummins, Case, CaseIH, CDC. Five different companies contributed to the Magnum.

Funny enough the magnum was going to be the next generation 88 series for IH until they got bought. Everything on that tractor is IH except for 3 or 4 things that were case parts
@LanceStoddard
@LanceStoddard 12 дней назад
Um...no. CDC engine, redesigned powershift. Pretty much half in half unit. Quite impressive, really.
@masterchief2182
@masterchief2182 8 дней назад
@@LanceStoddard you are correct after doing a bit of research the engine part is true (my apologies), the transmission was going to be part of the new 88 series but it reworked by the company but everything else I said was true the frames, cab, electronics, hydraulics, etc was IH due to them having better technology (quoted from Case engineers) so it was more 25% Case and 75% IH Source: Red Tractors by Lee Klancher
@LanceStoddard
@LanceStoddard 8 дней назад
@@masterchief2182 I love IH but...the new CaseIH company put together a team of both Case and IH men and spent two years on designing the powershift to upgrade the Tri-six design. Although everything fit in the old IH castings nicely, the electronics and valving were new. Assigning percentages of who did what is probably impossible. Patents from four different companies were used on the Magnum. IH, Case, CaseIH, Cummins, CDC. Opps, Five different entities! As for it being 75 percent IH, I would love to agree but...The engine was CDC, which is a big percentage of the tractor. It also took two years to design and test the trans upgrade post IH which is kind of disrespectful to the work done by those people to say it was an IH trans, when it was a CaseIH trans. I mean really, who cares? A lot of people worked very hard over many years to develop the Magnum. Thank them all.

Yes. The majority of this tractor was IH design. Last minute in the merger they added some Case inspired design to the cab, and added a CDC engine (Cummins 8.3)
