I have 3 of these tractors. A 1979 first model, a 1983 and a 1986. I will be converting the 1983 into a crawler/dozer and the 1979 into a loader/backhoe. Love these powerhouses!

Norman. This Ingersoll makes my Massey 1650 look like a Tonka toy. Full hydraulic drive vs. hydrostatic is awesome.

You need to find a early 90's Massey build by Ingersoll. 316/318/320. The ingersolls are a great tractor and it's nice to get one with Massey clothes on. That old 1650 is a good tractor too though.

Looks can be deceiving. My Ariens GT17 will outperform it all day. They come standard with front, mid and rear hydraulic lifts, as well as front, mid, and rear physical PTO’s. I have a 446, it’s big and fast, but it bogs down easily and if I wanted to use it to turn an implement, I would have to spend extra money for hydraulic PTO and three point.

My dad had a Case 446 for many years. We have a snowblower, mowerdeck, tiller and sleeve hitch for the case. It's an older design but basically has all the same features. The tiller is really cool because with the hydraulic pto you can reverse it. My 2 biggest gripes with the case is the lack of weight on the front because the engine is an aluminum block and very light as well as the lack of a middle speed range would have been nice. Otherwise it's a great machine

Thanks for the reply and sharing about your tractor. I agree with your assessments. I added the 4, 42 lb suitcase weights to the front for that weight needed. Thanks again for watching! =)
@1944johndeerel
@1944johndeerel 6 лет назад
isavetractors with the tiller on the back we always had to back up the hill in my parents yard because the front wheels would be near weightless and almost lifted off the ground. It's a bit of a design flaw on their part but not a deal breaker. That tractor is still around and the original engine is on its second rebuild

I debated between one of these and a JD 420. I ended up with the Deere, but was impressed with this unit. The deciding factor was the width of the tractor since I have sidehill that I have to mow.

I noticed during the video that the rubber air gasket around the oil filter is missing. You are over heating the intake valve seat on the oil filter side of the engine. It will eventually loosen in the bore and damage the block. That is an expensive repair. I know, it happened to my 4018. It only happens with the Performer Series. If you put your hand next to the filter with the engine running full throttle you will feel all the cooling air that is escaping. It should be cooling the block and that valve seat. It cost me a couple of hundred dollars to get the hole welded, rebored and a new valve seat installed, all for a 5 dollar rubber gasket. The gasket is shown in the Onan parts manual, I never did find it in the tractor parts manual.

Great video you did a good job explaining how the drive works. Defently on my to get list but that is a looooooong list and they are a little pricey. Even at auctions I have seen them needing work go for around 600. That's why I don't have one yet. :). I think the most I have ever payed for a mower was 300 for a 317 John Deere and I have a lot of mowers. That's a great looking mower excellent work 👍:).

I just transferred the three point lift off my Case 644 loader onto my 4020ps and am very disappointed in how little it can lift. On the 644, it could lift several hundred pounds easily, but the same three point on the 4020 barely lifts 200 pounds. I found out from a local Case expert that the issue is due to the built-in holding valve on the 4020, whereas the 644 doesn't have a holding valve at all. The holding valve on the 4020 doesn't let high pressure get to the three point. Do you know a way to get more pressure to the three point. Otherwise, it's kind of pointless to have that perfectly good three point on the 4020.

Just bought a Case 446 and hitched it to a 4'' x 8' trailer and headed down a steep driveway and it almost got away from me. How do you manage to hold back the load going downhill? I'm guessing to raise the rpm and keep the lever speed slow?? Thanks and great video. Very helpful.
@Isavetractors
@Isavetractors Год назад
You would want to keep a High RPM, and then use the hydro lever to keep it slow. If you have a hydraulic flow valve like on this one, you can lower that too. Also the brake. I don't have that problem because my farm is flat.

theres a petcock at the right side. we've had one in the family for almost 30 years. they need almost no maintenance at all aside from new deck bearings "you don't have to replace housings" every 6 or 7 years, new deck belts every 3 or 4 years. we replaced the electric clutch maybe..12 years ago. very impressive machines. i graded my driveway with it using the plow. pulled things i never thought it could pull. and does a really nice even job mowing.

I have a case 210. Currently i have 2 issues with it. When i lift my mowrr deck it only lifts in the front and only 1/2" in the manual it says the wheels should not touch the ground when it is lifted and my deck wheels are on the ground all the time up or down. 2nd issue i can't explain... shimmery bronze in oil. Spec# claims nothing bronze in engine, no balance gears, shafts, bushings, govenor gear and weights are steel. Kohler k241 k301 stamped on block.
@Isavetractors
@Isavetractors 6 лет назад
Regarding the mower deck: Check the linkages and then check the hydraulic fittings for signs of leaks. You can also remove the mower deck, crawl under there and have someone operate the lift up and down, and observe what's going on. You may discover binding or something. Regarding the oil: it's probably water in the oil. When oil mixes with water and moisture it turns a golden brownish color.

Hi I have 2 question, I have a 444 in which I need to replace the o-ring for the travel spool, after reading the manual it says I need to do a hydraulic test to set the relief valve and I was wondering if you had a video on how to do that? my 2nd? is what is the purpose of the flow control valve add on?
@Isavetractors
@Isavetractors 4 года назад
I don't have a video on that, good suggestion though. Follow the instructions in the manual on doing the pressure test. The Flo Control Valve, can slow the flow of oil to the transmission. It's kind of like a "Creeper Gear" in gear transmissions. It allows me to go really really slow during operations such as tilling.

But can't figure out why it shuts off at a half a tank of fuel.. No nobody can tell me what causes that they want me to bring my more in and leave it sitting with two or three weeks I can't do that. Still got 2 to 3 weeks of grass cutting left. Can you give me and idea. Please! 😕
@peckerwood6078
@peckerwood6078 5 лет назад
Don't see a response or that you indicate what type of machine this is on! Best guess would be that you have a weak diaphragm in the fuel pump or a plugged vent in the fuel cap. Could also be debris in the tank but of course a fresh fuel filter is the first place to start and assume you have already done that! Good luck!

@@peckerwood6078 hey bud I'm sorry . I was interrupted doing something else before I could finish telling you. It's a generic Craftsman has a motor on it I'm assuming is Briggs & Stratton but it has a tag on it it says MTD and I change the fuel filter but it still does the same thing I thought it might have been lying so I changed the lines out still doing it and it's got a vacuum line from the top of the tank down to the carburetor. It's gravity flow so it doesn't have a fuel pump. Oh and when I say generic Craftsman it was made by MTD for Craftsman. That's their cheaper version right.but anyway gets down to either a quarter tank or half a tank pending on how it's running that day and then it just shuts off just like it run out of fuel I'm wondering if a small hole might be in the fuel tank where the bracket is I didn't check that I'll check that. Thank you for your response. Have a great day.

Take the tank off the unit and dump it out and then remove the bowl from the carb and collect the fuel. combine the fuel in the tank with the fuel drained from the carb and look at the bottom of the glass jar you put it in to see if water is on the bottom. Shake out tank and blow compressed air back through outlet. Make sure the cap is off the tank or you'll blow up the tank and split a seam. Put the vent hole in the cap up to your mouth and blow. If air won't go though it it's plugged. Get another one or if possible take it apart and clean it. Good luck Carl @@carlhelmick8104

The Power King Tractors are great. They came in a bunch of different models. The high wheeled Power Kings are very cool. The Power Kings with the larger than 12" wheels are my preferred. Other Tractors to Consider are the Wide Frame Cub Cadets and Ford LGT's. Both weight about 800 lbs and have greater parts availability and are typically more common and cost less than a Power King. Good Luck in your Search!
