Loving these videos. I’ve always had good luck with bump sizing my brass & moderate powder charges , just for hunting accuracy! If I was 1moa @ 100y I was happy . I’ve just started watching all of this case prep stuff & just bought my 1st set of headspace & comparator gauges & lock rings for my dies . Next will get a neck turner & concentricity gauge , but not sure which ones to get at this stage.

Outside neck runout can be used to determine whether the brass is worth turning. If the outside neck runout exceeds 0.002" it is not concentric enough and not worth neck turning. An expander mandrel usually makes for a more concentric neck compared to the conventional expander ball in a resizing die. Bullet runout is more important than outside neck runout...the outside of the neck might have minimal runout, but the inside of the case neck could have more runout or a doughnut, ultimate what is really important is bullet runout with respect to the bore axis of the rifle. Variation in neck thickness is important because consistent neck tension is important.

@angryfishmonger You can. Usually if the die is cut right and you still have run out it's due to the case being thicker on one side.

Probably. A lot of times this run-out will go away with a firing or twp. Neck turning helps. I hope you didn't toss the brass out.

I may have sent this question already - sorry. Just in case I didn't, my question is if my gauge ranges from 0.000-0.005" for while measuring neck run-out, then my actual neck runout is .0025 (i.e., divided by 2). The RCBS casemaster instructions, if I remember correctly, doesn't mention this. I have only been keeping brass with ranges of less than .004 - does this mean I have been scrapping a lot of good brass (i.e., brass with .002 or less of neck runout)?

I may be asking a question similar to angryfish but can't you neck size your die then neck turn them to have equal run out? Also though which would you do first in the case of having a neck bushing die. Wouldn't you have to neck turn to a certain diamter before you used your sizing die in that case and if you do then how do you know that your neck bushing hasn't messed up your neck turning process?

As a rule then, should you always turn your brass a 1/4 turn when you re-size it to minimize the run out?

Yes. I think this is a better setup for me.

You mention that you rerun brass through full length die to help correct some run out. What if I am only neck sizing my brass, will the neck size die help with a quarter turn as my brass has been fire formed in my own bolt action 6.5x55.

I purchase the RCBS Case Master. Where did you purchase the extra dial and attachment? Thanks for all the excellent information. I'm shooting a 0.431 MOA @ a 100 yards because of you. Warm Regards
