Course Description: This course examines classic presentations and typical clinical courses of common neuro-ophthalmic conditions and contrasts with situations where the course or findings were atypical and unexpected. Conditions discussed include diplopia from presumptive ischemia, ocular and systemic manifestations of giant cell arteritis, occult intracranial mass lesions, and neurologic visual field loss from anatomic vascular issues and without etiology confirmatory neuroimaging findings. Strategies are presented on how to proceed when a diagnosis or clinical course does not go as expected and how to change management approach. Thought processes are detailed as to why unusual conditions behaved as they did and reasons why alternate diagnosis were not considered.
