At Broken by Concept, we seek to service the League of Legends ranked solo queue community, through our weekly educational podcast and our occasional player case studies. These case studies aim to shed light on players who misrepresent their solo queue experience, victimize themselves and normalise unsportsmanlike behaviour within the community. These players are not only ruining the ranked experience for themselves, but for everyone else around them. We hope that by connecting a player's words with their gameplay, we are able to disprove the narratives they push, while helping audiences distinguish between fantasy and reality. Players like this exemplify what happens when you adopt toxic narratives and let them control your ranked journey. We hope this video will help you better understand the solo queue experience, and the benefits of building a healthy relationship with this great game we all love. Join us in dissecting the common narratives that plague our community such as: - Blaming teammates for their mistakes, while not taking accountability for their own - Ignorance towards how their in-game decisions are affecting the outcome of the game. - Putting a disproportionate amount of attention towards matchmaking (losers queue) - Thinking about and discussing the game in absolutes. - The dangers of champion and role hopping. Constantly looking for the next LP gimmick And many more... Finally, two questions for you: 1) Does Dillerus represent the type of player you want to have on your team? 2) Have you ever found yourself exhibiting any of the above behaviours? If so, how has it impacted your journey?
@JonathanSaxon
@JonathanSaxon 7 месяцев назад
1) no I'd really rather not have Dillerus on my team. 2) I used to always blame others for my mistakes, and not think about how my in game decisions affect others. I have improved on this. Now I have the issue of getting demoralised when I don't zoom up the ranks as fast as I want.

I think I’ve had the problem of getting obsessed over my teammates mistakes. It comes from wanting to control the game state and it can drive you crazy to see your teammates doing things that result in you having less control. It takes patience and confidence to believe you don’t have to control every tiny thing because you can carry and climb over the long term. I think this attitude also leads to toxic behaviors, like revenge inting a game or flaming teammates as a pathetic attempt to recover a feeling of control
@shanebitner8991
@shanebitner8991 7 месяцев назад
It's honestly intense how much he ruins the game for others, but thinks others are the reason he can't climb and inting his games. It's riot, the mechanics, his team mates, the opponent champion, just anything that isn't him. And he says he is having fun in league of legends when this is what he's doing in his games and how he's treating others. Probably getting more "fun" out of yelling at team mates than actually playing

As a Vanye top main getting to Challenger yourself, any tips for the BBC community Sorest? Or Garen matchup specifics to help Dillerus. - Nathan
@CoachSorest
@CoachSorest 7 месяцев назад
@@BrokenByConcept Sure, Garen is one of the easiest matchups for Vayne. I would personally run fleet but PTA is fine. LS start isn't bad but I would choose between dblade and cull, since he's into so low threat here he can simply go cull, almost as much ad as LS and huge gold payout and can still play aggressive, this can be combined with cutdown as HP discrepency will be large, but he went last stand. Also wouldn't max W here, Q max allows you to push the pace of the game harder vs their squishy comp and the Garen. Getting into the game, right away you would want to establish bush control, zone the Garen lvl 1 from xp, poking him and using bushes to de-aggro creeps constantly. Viego is farming towards top, so I would try to zone, poke and try to crash 3rd/4th wave and ping my viego to potentially dive him (In Saskios clip we can even see him diving Garen on 4th wave without jungler, which also is possible, but imagine how doable it is with jgler). Because the Garen opted for ghost instead of tp he is extra vulnurable to this as he can't tp back and catch some of the wave after the dive. Successfully zoning him from xp lvl 1 and building a huge wave with a dive when he has no tp could mean a 3 lvl advantage early after 3-4 minutes, which is a lead you can completely take over the game with. Potentially this might also open up an opportunity for you and Viego to invade Ivern and zone Garen from re-entering the lane between the t1 and t2 towers. Else we simply base, get our item advantage and look to freeze and zone Garen off the creeps on the bounce back. From here on, I will go into some more specific mistakes with time stamps: 14:01 - Q's instead of auto + Q to maximize dmg 14:03 - Autos instead of E'ing Garen into the wall (proceeds to blame he couldn't E but it was due to him inputting an auto attack and then losing vision afterwards). 14:05 - E'ing Garen instead of holding it, Garen has to flash there else Viego W's his melee range and you get your E off, so we shouldn't E, saving the huge mana cost and proccing PTA while dealing a lot of dmg to him (potentially leading up to a dive with the Viego). 14:24 - Pokes too deep under tower with tower shot being ready (we can see it just fired on a minion, that's why it so quickly aggro'd). 14:55 - Not de-aggroing the casters + cannon properly, taking a bunch of dmg with no potions left, no fleet, no sustain from dblade or cull. 15:35 - Huge recall timing, 1200 gold, wave crash, no pots, weakside, low hp, grubbs spawning. Vayne has the worst waveclear in the game, we have no tp, you need to find good recalls. Sitting on the LS here too we can't really pressure as hard as we could and take over the lane completely. 15:51 - Poor micro, stands still instead of moving back, this would allow him to AA, AA + Q (PTA proc + pta enhanced W proc), we can then potentially chase Garen put him very low if not killing him and with that HP advantage we could look for a new crash + base timing. Not wasting E when not needed is big too, because it costs 90 mana which is three Q's (30 mana fixed every rank). 16:04 - Q should be to the side instead of forward, to maintain spacing, de-aggro the casters faster and most importantly not give garen an opportunity to Q + E you if he plays it properly, we can die there (can't flash when silenced). 16:06 - Spacing mistake, moving into garen failing to maintain the range, which causes us to flash. I went full nerd here, but I want to highlight how much there is to it, if you want to reach the absolute highest level, here is where your attention should to be.

The thing about tower reaction time is simple. You attack the champion as soon as the tower shoots at a minion, this gives you the longest amount of time before the tower can target you. If you hit a champion when the tower projectile just lands on the minion it can instantly fire at you. This is something every single person who plays lanes should know. In solo queue, I focus on myself. When I play in the amateur league I play in, I am very aware of when I am playing well or bad. However, due to being part of a team, I am VERY critical of my teammates. It's harder to win in a pre-made team environment if people aren't pulling their own weight than it is in solo queue. Also, unlike solo queue, I am actively playing with the same people over and over again. In solo queue, I MIGHT get you two games in a row. The only consistent thing is me being in my own lobbies every game. The same can't be said for pre-made team games.

It’s 40 minutes in my whole teams fighting for baron (we have elder buff and can win 5v5) and my shaco is nowhere to be seen, he’s farming enemy red side jungle. I was tilted over it I won’t lie but I had ZERO idea what he was thinking, I just disliked him because he was a toxic player but NOT a bad player or anybody trying to lose the game. Long story short I completely forgot to take into account the enemy was open nexus and while we 4v5ed and lost the baron he backdoored and ended the game. He was thinking about something completely different but he was right, I was wrong.

It's actually crazy how after I started watching you guys I started seeing your sentiment about champ mastery reflected in a lot of other high elo streamers. Polypuff recently had a AMA video, one of the questions was someone asking "what are some macro tips for a low elo player like me" and his response was "if you're below diamond don't even worry about macro, just focus on mastering your favorite champion, macro comes naturally through experience, trying things and seeing what works and what doesn't". Basic knowledge of how to play your champ is a no-brainer. Being able to do every combo and all these nuanced situational trick/exploits (perfectly) should not come before having a good grasp of macro. Thats why most people would say, pick a simple champ, so you can learn how to play the game before learning how to animation cancel on riven and do the Shy. There was even a rank 1 Riven who said this same stuff. Either way, everyone learns differently.

A few episodes ago, Curtis talked about the pitfalls that players who learn the game through support can often fall victim to, and while I did agree with pretty much everything he said about it, I think what he says around 1:20:25 can be one of the biggest benefits of learning the game through support. I felt what it was like to indirectly carry the game by doing my job as a support before I ever learned how to carry the game by being the actual carry champion. I think that has really helped me establish a way of thinking that makes me feel satisfied and happy when I do my job well in a game, regardless of the outcome of the match, and that helps me mitigate tilt sooo much. Even though I main mid and typically play assassins now, I am grateful for what my time maining support taught me.

I played on a second account I used to learn champions on, ended up having a 60%+ winrate over 70 games and once I hit emerald I was getting +16-32. Typically I play in D3-D2. Since this account ended somewhere in Plat last season and I only used it for learning. Once I climbed it up from plat the gains were terrible due to the MMR. I understood why the game was doing this but still gave me low gains high losses for the next 80 games while my winrate fell slightly. i was tilted and was trying to figure out how many more games I need to play to fix the MMR ( Even the diamond games had negative). I did come across this exact video on emerald. The only thought I had was DAMN this is a terrible video, nothing about climbing and what skills you should have for emerald, nothing about what skills you need to climb higher if your other skills are up to par. Nothing about games played VS MMR and winrate. I walked away from it untilted for fear of becoming like this guy...

I just started the vid, but hearing someone say "when I lose it's a team problem 99% of the time" instantly lets me know that this person doesn't care about improving their own gameplay. It's technically true that if every game my entire team played p-e-r-f-e-c-t-l-y, then I would be challenger, because they'd carry me lol. Why should I expect my team to play better than the enemy team every game? Shouldn't I expect a 50-50 split and tilt the balance in my favor by being better than my opponent as often as possible? Not understanding this fundamental idea is why people get stuck. No one who understands this and actively tries to improve their own gameplay stays stuck "because of their team".

46:40 This makes no sense to say. "Lets rewind the video and then analyze". What you're saying is true. He doesn't think about his teammates and his macro is utter shiet. BUT, while you're in-game analyzing your teammates priorities as you are playing isn't something an emerald player does. This is not how they improve, this is how they get overwhelmed and end up doing nothing in the fight. They can't just rewind the video and think everything you, a challenger player, needed 2 minutes. Again, what you're saying is objectively true, this guy simply doesn't think of bard as someone else with his own focuses and playstyle but still, "rewind the video and let's analyze ... and his mistake is not doing this"???? 1:15:30 Of course I agree, the problem is that there are so many players like this that will abuse this as their way to say "I'm just better than you therefore I'm right" and it's discouraging players that want to improve. If you are someone that is trying to learn different mechanics (rotating, flanking, split-pushing or w/e else) and a guy that peaked 3 divisions higher than you comes and tells you that you're not doing it good enough or outright wrong, you will feel like he is at least better at it than you. That's how someone genuinely climbs to a higher ranks while improving at their champion but still don't know how to freeze a wave. (considering freezing is an important aspect of their gameplay, so like support or top laner). And that's why everyone is saying the rank system is bad. At it's core it really isn't almost any different than other games, but people hate it because it's not balanced. There are a lot of things that you can go WITHOUT and still climb because your champ/lane allows you to, so when you are put in a situation to perform a task you aren't familiar with you troll. And no, you won't learn it over time because you aren't even aware of that fundamental being as bad as it is. 1:15:53 That wasn't his critique, his critique was that the other players, the ones that didn't play in master tier for years are getting there by abusing meta/unbalanced champs, therefore when the meta changes or champion is nerfed and they stop performing like a hypothetical master player, it by default makes the master tier look worse and games are of less quality. (5 masters vs 4 masters and 1 diamond 4, f/e) When it comes to his statement "ah yuumi can't carry 4 lanes therefore luck" I mean this dude isn't real💀I don't know where is he getting this "every game is 1v9" mentality, but a "blueprint" of his mindset is probably that if yuumi master player played from gold hardstuck account to masters, it would take him 200 games, but if a mid lane katarina player played from gold hardstuck to masters it would take them 50. Yeah but the yuumi player probably wouldn't even pick yuumi, rather something like senna or swain that can stand it's own ground and then it would be easier (support doesn't have too many 1v9 champs) 1:28:55 Let me introduce you to selection bias: Selection bias is the bias introduced by the selection of individuals, groups, or data for analysis in such a way that proper randomization is not achieved, thereby failing to ensure that the sample obtained is representative of the population intended to be analyzed. A pretty good example of it in my opinion. Realistically speaking he never wanted to play the game and tryhard it to begin with, he climbed to masters 200+ lp or something just to prove that hypocrite wrong. Tarzaned is dislike by the whole league community for bunch of reasons, BUT it isn't the one you're trying to say here. He also rages and flames his whole team even though they're just worse than the enemy. Korean soloq is something else, if you actively watched his games the amount of people going afk and/or trolling one another is quite insane, Korean soloq is literally the reason Yamikaze quit league of legends. That's how sad it is. What you did is you've taken his rage moments after hundreds of games where his mental was already ruined because of the nature of KR, and said HA! See he blames but tells you not to. It's literally unclear if someone is trolling you or not at some points. He didn't play to win and climb for a few years because he had a life. Then came back, learning hecarim and tryndamere mid with new items and new meta etc. etc. and after creating a new account (old one was d2) got to masters pretty easily. Not fast, but easy. No, majority of people aren't like this. People do get tilted and blame things around them but only after like 5 losses where they genuinely performed well, and after that they do play worse but end up blaming others. It's mentality, not a narrative. He is the only consistent factor in all of his games, but he is only like 5% of the game (as a player, without his champion), if that makes sense. His impact is decided by champions and other players skill level. If you're a challenger ornn player, playing in gold, you will be like 50% responsible for your win. In challenger it isn't the same, your impact is far less. If you played with 4 golds against 5 diamonds, odds of you losing is like 99.9%. Therefore, you as a silver player, playing champions you know how to play IN SILVER are still only around 10-15% responsible for the game. This is a very weird example but the point stands. The problem with this game is again, that you need to put countless hours in just to maybe learn something and improve a little bit. I never experienced this in league, luckily. People at first just want to have fun, then learn, but changing habits is kind of hard when you're trying to have a life as well. I was trying to learn how to play from the start. My story was 6 months long from my first game and I ended up in diamond 3 (after 4 months I passed gold 4), playing top lane split push champions like tryndamere or garen. After that I quit for a year. Came back, got stomped in silver, needed some time to get into the form again. Ended up switching to pantheon mid, hecarim jungle, then talon mid. All of them learned in gold-plat elo, within 50 games climbed from low gold to high plat with over 70% win rate. Settled on talon and hit masters 400 lp. Played in that range although quite inactively whole S13, managed to get to 700lp and end both splits around that range. Do you see how if I wasn't actively trying to get better even as an ex D3 player I wasn't moving. I want to have fun, which is doable if I play cool fun champs, which I did, but it isn't rewarding if I don't play a shiet ton. Hope this opens your eyes on why people hate this game and the competitive nature of it. "No you can't have fun if you don't spend 5 hours a day playing learning and analyzing games so that you improve and grow as a player because otherwise everyone will tell you to offline yourself" - whoever made MOBAs

You guys are great! I have started climbing and have suggested my friends watch you guys. It is amazing how much mental attitude is connected to you climb. Positive attitude and focus on your own play will get you to climb. It's amazing how many games I win when behind early and FF 15 is never in your mind. Instead the mindset goes to focus up buttercup and what can we do to change things around. It's crazy how little the early game means in low elo. I have learned so much about mid and late game and how to come back by attitude and believing in my ability to adapt to what the game is starting to look like. Thanks guys for changing my attitude towards the game.

The main reason i dont play league competiitvely is that its so easy to fall into this team blame mindset, Im a super competitive player and I love grinding ranked but i believe in never blaming team and always tryna do my best/focus on improvement. But league is the one game that just gets in my head. Im sure i could work through it but i chose to focus more on fun in this game than skill and i enjoy it a lot more. whereas in val and ow im the opposite, but im able to preserve my mental and be a positive player in those games. Idk what it is about league that makes me feel more ragey than other games

I think it's because the matches are longer and they build on minute 1 like a chess game. So what others are doing affects the rest of the game that you're stuck playing out. In Valorant, although there's economy, the round resets constantly, so you're not stuck with someone's mistake to the same extent, you also don't have a bird's eye view of what everyone in your team is doing.

@gallae

my biggest issue with this guy’s content is that it seems tailor-made to make his audience hate league. like, if the only way to get out of masters is luck, and the biggest factor in winning or losing a game is whether you’re in winner’s queue or loser’s queue, and you spam report and rage in game, and most of your non-stream videos involve you complaining about your teammates in emerald/diamond/master MMR, why on earth would that make me want to keep playing and caring about this game? because the experience being described sounds miserable. this guy is a prime example to me of a guy whose hatred of this game is his own fault- the kind of guy whose comment about how “the best advice for league is to uninstall and do something actually fun” gets top comment on a SkillCapped video. he’s unfortunately trapped himself in a ton of really shitty narratives of thinking he’s better than his MMR and that every game is just luck. if you want to play a game you think is blind luck, go to the casino and pull the slot machines. that way when you lose, you don’t get a chance to ruin 4 to 9 other peoples’ good time for the next 25 mins.

I also can’t help but draw the conclusion that this guy has heavily tied his personal identity to being good at league. He mentions in his video that he doesn’t have a job, and that he spends 16 hours a day playing league. I play in Emerald and I'll be honest, I play 3 champs with a couple situational picks like Rammus into all AD comps. I know I'm not very good or super knowledgeable about the game. But I will say people like this dude randomly picking champs into roles they can't play is a pandemic in rank. If I auto-fill I dodge, if see a new champ selected I dodge, troll picks I dodge, my gut instinct is 90% correct. But people randomly auto-filling their way through games is not something you can predict and this is the reason games feel so uncontrollable sometimes. Someone with 1000+ games on a champ will influence team fights and skirmishes, those differences add up to win or loss.

At that level, the focus should be on getting the games in on your champion. It's like getting in reps at the gym. Once you build that muscle memory, you can start recognizing what feels good and bad for your champion. Also, look at high elo mains of that champ and see what they're doing. How are they using their abilities? Focus on one ability at a time. Are they holding it for longer? Are you holding it for too long? You'd be surprised how much of a difference just using one ability differently can make.

My interpretation is that people think their current rank is where elo hell is because they can't escape it, but that's really because that is their actual rank and they're no longer improving so they justify that the exact same rank they are is where elo hell is.

I'm not joking when I say I see at least 1-2 players like this in my games and they straight up ruin the game for either my team or the opposing team. I don’t know if either of you guys have ever done this or not…but I would love to see a series of one of y’all climbing from a bronze 4 account as far as you can take it…maybe to like diamond or something. Like just seeing how long it takes and what is a realistic win rate. I think one of the problems I had mentally was that I was thinking I needed to be winning 90% of games and I’m always the one carrying. And that I should be climbing in a week from bronze to like emerald or something lol. It wasn’t until I chilled out and just realized I need to play consistent every game even if it means some games are auto losses or I’m not the carry etc. With consistency comes climb even if it’s a 55% wr over a few months or so. All that being said I do think the queue system and ranking system is rigged (I have learned to accept it lol and just focus on getting better at the game). I have been playing league for 5 seasons. And I have hit gold every season. Yet the game constantly starts me in bronze every season without fail. Making it very frustrating to work so hard just to get back to gold every season lol. This time around I moved to Korea and made two accounts. One got placed in bronze and I worked it to gold (just like my NA accounts). But the other got immediately placed in gold 1 after having average at best placements lol. Like I as a player am definitely “gold” in terms of skill considering it’s my rank every season. But I always have to start in bronze until this one account that finally auto placed me in gold…ultimately making it easier for me to now finally hit plat as I don’t have to go through the mental battle of bronze and silver haha. So I personally do think the ranking system is rigged af and not fair. I personally wish they would either hard reset literally everyone to iron 4 every season or just like never reset people lower than the tier they are in from the previous season. Or just never reset at all. I just wanna see an environment where everyone starts out the same and no one gets a free ride to a tier…or everyone gets a free ride to a tier if they were already there before and maintained it. Of course the good players would still climb out but I think it’s unfair the way it is now (once again I wanna reiterate I have accepted that fact and just play to get better and take it as a part of the system).

Curtis did a video on his personal channel about playing in bronze and showed himself playing in a couple of bronze games a long while back. Then, recently, he made a video turning around and saying he was wrong for making that video and explains why. It's definitely worth checking out. Also, about hard resetting everyone: the game would be a nightmare. The beginning of the season would just have smurfs running rampant in iron/bronze games and ruining the game for people who are legitimately at that skill level or even people who are at lower skill levels than whatever high ranked player is on the enemy team. Games would pretty much be decided by who has more challenger players on their team instead of feeling like actual competitive games. This would make the game frustrating for both the people who are getting stomped and the people who are getting boring easy games, and people would not want to play. It also takes a while for your MMR to adjust to your actual skill level so this could last for a while. Then people who are on lucky teams could randomly shoot up because of having multiple challenger players in their low ranked games then feel terrible when they start losing games because they're eventually going to drop to their actual rank which might mean they go on massive loss streaks (like that person who bought that masters account or whatever it was). Now think of the people whose games that person is ruining because they don't belong there, and that person is going to want to quit playing because they lost so many games and is potentially getting flamed on the way down too.

As a top laner I can see that this guys does not understand how range champions top work. He has 0 positioning, 0 wave management and 0 trading knowledge. Not using bushes to de-agro and most importantly poor spacing. Also he should be playing fleet footwork and not lethal tempo. These type of range tops are free elo because as long as u go even vs them, the ennemy team ends up with 0 frontlane and if ennemy bot is not hard winning that team mid game will be very painfull especially if this vayne starts losing in side lane. If you are playing vayne or any adc top u better be hard stomping lane or else your actually griefing, akshan or quinn is same story u are meant as a lane bully and if u don't bully u are losing.

That’s some good info! I just started top lane, I get frustrated in some of those matchups.
