Very informative thank you, we've driven quads but never a 9rx so no way of comparing. You on the other hand have first hand experience in very demanding environments. Thanks for sharing!
Mike I am very curious how our tractor would do, it is too light right now at 55k but if tires filled it'd be around 70k. I'm betting the 620 quad would still have the edge but these old kta19 engines can lug way down to the 1500 rpm range before needing to downshift. Also our footprint isn't large enough, would need larger or more tires.
Fair and unbias. All the manufacturers should see this very informative video. Engineers are listening. I had an Uber passenger, he is an engineer at Freightliner in Cleveland, North Carolina. I'm a retired truck driver, yep I was a BillyBob Big Rigger. He asked my input. What should we be doing? We had great conversation. He was new, just out of school, still valued my knowledge. So yeah everybody, they need our input, the end users, the mechanics who have to do their own maintenance.
Mike, i strongly believe you are from the people you can influence and affect the industry with your straight forward, simple but polite and truthful farmers way. Keep it up!
Hi Mike, recently subscribed and love the fun and informative vids!! Especially love this one as I've recently taken delivery of a Case 540. We had run a secondhand 480 for five years, but unfortunately let us down the last couple of harvests, so it had to go. Tried a 9RX and a 620 Case. All the points you made I picked up on when we had the demos, so at least I now know i made the right decision, both good machines and we have good dealer back up for both, also my operator preferred the Case and he's the one who's going to be on it all season, so if he wants to be in it, he'll get the most out of it. Shame its not got the fridge, as I dont think my operator is going to want to go home, in fear that someone else will drive it!! Keep up the good work. William from the UK
I do like the fair reviews, and I am a case guy I do do believe they build better 4wd tractors over their competitors. But John deere i think build better smaller tractors. I think for your operation and honestly most operations the pros do out weight the cons by a bunch. But different strokes for different folks. Everyone wants something different in their machines. Thank you for the honest review and I hope you keep doing them to gain us viewers more knowledge when shopping for equipment!
Truth be told every tractor preforms differently in different conditions , it all is broken down to what job your doing with the tractor , and yes, each brand ( if it’s case, John Deere, Kubota , Challenger, etc...) all have their pros and cons. It all comes down to1: what you need a tractor to do for you, 2:what type of terrain/climate your farming in , 3:implements your towing/pulling with your tractor,etc... 4: most importantly, what tractor fits your needs the beat for your farm/ plot of land?. I’m not bashing any brand or tractor , just adding in what I personally thing is a good way to sum it all up, I am not a farmer myself,(16 year old teen, wished I lived on a farm/ did farming though) but from what I’ve watched and observed from RU-vid videos on farming, is that every farm has curtain tractor for curtain jobs, there’s no “one tractor does all”. That’s just my personal thoughts though. Also,Mike, keep up the great, I love watching your videos , there very informational and interesting to watch , keep it up
Another great informative video, thanks Mike. And agree what ever equipment that may work for one may not work for others, and dealers makes a huge difference in what would make sense for you go own and use at your operation.
Another great vid Mike thanks for sharing. The main reason overhead power lines are overhead and not underground is a simple one.... Cost. It is roughly 5 times the cost to put a line underground. Maintenance on underground lines is also a lot higher. Repair costs to an underground cable can be around 10 times the cost of above ground depending on the cable and location. Another consideration is repair times/cost and Upgrade times/cost. Repair and upgrade times and options for underground is considerably longer and way more costly than for overhead. Underground cabling can still break down and has its own risks eg dug up, sheath deterioration . Whereas an above ground line you can see it, you know where it is and is less likely to be damaged by equipment etc. its disadvantage is it is prone to nature and the forces of nature. One other point i noticed you said at times about 3 ft from power lines.... hmmm depending on the voltage of that line the min clearance you should work on to be totally safe is 10feet.. But you can only do what you can do. The main risks in getting so close is arcing risks but am sure you know about that...In fact I know you do as in one of your other vids you were on the back tank unit and were getting close to power lines and you stated "opps getting close to those power lines time to get off this"
So Mike, what I’m hearing is one rigs for SHOW and one rigs for GO. A ice box cooler, sound system don’t get the crops in and off the fields. Great review from one who actually uses both, plus your better half’s input to. Great videos. Better get the Millennial Farmer on board 🤣😂.
Thanks for the video Mike.. I'm a Case man (I do have friends that run Green) but I do like hearing the pro's and Con's going both ways between Red and Green. I always enjoy your video's..
I'd like to see a comparison between the Case the JD and the Versatile. The later is usually priced quite a bit better from what I've seen so kind of curious on the quality of the machine.
Great video Mike! Thanks for the comparison. You also had a good message at the end, unbiased judgment is a one of the best ways to make an informed decision on the farm💪
Well Mike, after watching this video,i think it's time to go into the basement lab and start welding on Frankenstein tractor: Case's engine and frame with cab, speakers and fridge from JD,outside lights from Fendt. You think this would be cool?
One thing I really like with the Fendt is it has a much better front window wiper. Being mounted from the bottom it gives a big sweep and pushes all the water and mud to the bottom of the window where it continues down out of your vision and not up just for it to run down into the area it just wiped clean. Also when off it tucks away out of your vision. Pretty obvious really. You would think these other brands with their millions of dollars spent on R&D could figure that out. Good reviews Mike. Honest with no sales man spin.
THANKS for the unbiased, head to head, FAIR comparison of the two. Like you, I am looking forward to see what RED has for 2021. Keep up the GOOD work on your channel.
Well Mike, as with everything there is good and bad with all equipment. Depends on preference and what works for your operation........not color. It's nice to listen to you as someone unbiased who calls a spade a spade. Love your videos, humor & point of view. Be safe bud!!😁👍
The JDs generally hold their value better. You're spot on with the dealership. What happens if you fail on a hill, reversing that seeder doesn't look easy.
Hi Mate...🇨🇦..🇦🇺 Totally agreed on the issues of what tractor is the best, our farm has primary run JD's since my grand father's days. We do have a 🌈 of tractors on our farm, each different brand of tractor has a purpose and performs best to its position on the farm. For our big HP heavy pulling tractors we are changing to Versitile DT 610's, we ran one as a demo this planting season, with the HP bumped to 680hp and we're convinced that it's the best suited tractor for our operations.. You gotta get one out there on your farm and give it a shot at the trophy...😁😂 Stay safe..
One would think a tractor manufacturer would invest time in talking to farmers and learn the good, bad, ugly, of their products and make improvements. God bless.
Love your channel Mike, being a farmer was my childhood dream so I'm a retired software engineer living vicariously through you and others. Just wondering if you do anything to protect your hearing hours running machinery can take a toll. From an old man wearing hearing aids 😆
You DEFINITELY have to plan in advance for Sask Power to raise the lines as we had our “Double Pole” set up raised over 20’ and they put the numerous poles in over the winter & early spring but the actual lines were not FULLY RAISED which required extending the lines till after the following harvest.
Clearly both brands get the job done. Im not a farmer but i think i would go for comfortable seat, visibility and power. Oh...and the one that stays away from the stuck jar as far as possible :)
I was always a deer Guy but I have learned from you to CK all of them. I use to have farmers around me that were all green or red now I see all different colors. So I learned a lot from you.l haven't farmed ln 40yr I been watching you to learned a lot from you. I'm trying to catch up on technology .
I've personally never ran a case. I think we got a old case combine at work that we get out every once in a while but I've never ran it so it's nice to see the real life experience of one.
And they really should! Mike says it how it is, he don't care about the colour, at least Imo. Like it should be, the brand ain't the point, it's a working horse the one which get the job done as cost efficient as possible and brake down the least, is the best. Also this caliber customer -if he buys 6 JD620's or Case Q, imagine the amount of dollars.. they are big companies, but they feel those amounts..
Mike - Great job on your impartial Red & Green Quad comparison video, very educational. I agree with your main point: Dealer support/warranty is the primary driver. I like the way that you present pros and cons of each color. Every color has a plus and a minus, the ideal machine doesn’t exist. Questions: 1) How would a triple tire 620 Case Articulated compare to the Quad in traction and cost? 2) Regardless of machine color how well do tracks wear compared to tires (time/miles/hours) and generally, what is the cost difference to replace a track belt vs a tire. Thanks for taking your time to make the video - keep um coming
I guess I am not sure, we don't typically keep the them long enough to wear then down. I think in my experience the tracks hold up better. The problem with the triples in my experience is 3 things. 1: your very wide going washouts, it's hard on studs. 2: the resale value isn't as good because guys typically want the tracks. And 3: I like that I don't have to call I tire shop because I ran over something.
I have used them all and now I only buy from the guy that gives me the best service because they all will break down its how fast are you up and going again
The Deere has a Cummins motor, Deere just started manufacturing of a new 13.6 liter that has up to 2250 ft.lb torque and an 18 liter on the way for high horsepower applications... the case has an Iveco engine if I remember correctly... it seems Cummins has fallen behind in engine torque, which is what pulls heavy loads.. I would expect the MAN engine in the Fendt to have great torque but it lacks horsepower...
Agree, the Fendt 1050 is fine tractor but lacks power for this heavy duty pulling of drill trains.. The Fendt 1050 has 517hp at the engine, what is left after all hydro functions, (PTO?) at the drawbar to pull drill and cart, I don't know. So that engine hp is far less compared to the 620 or 680 (with power boost) in the Case / Steiger Quadtrack. Its weight is also much lower, which in itself is nice, because one aims to reduce compaction and so forth. So to compare them is kind of harsh or say unequal. And without tracks and less weight sometimes it starts to show slip. Time for AGCO to build a 1070 wheel or track version? Or else.. One may like other, possibly cheeper and smarter solutions. There is so much weigth already in the train. It could be an idea to think differently. As the carts are so heavy and put so much weight on the ground, isn't it an idea to make them (one or two axles) self-propelled? It will reduce slip, it will reduce overall weight, it will reduce the number of stalls and stucks en inefficience because less help throughout the day is needed from others (if available). Further it may avoid that the cart pulls the seed drill aside in a bend, in a corner or on a side of hill, etc., improving your actual drill operation. Ofcourse to get there, there is an engineering challenge for cart / drill manufacturers like Bourgault, John Deere and else. Yu need a power unit at the drill. It could be interesting for them to produce a test version and test it on your farm 😉. Ok stop here, before getting to philosophical. Hope to hear your opnion Mike!
Great customer advice Mike !! When you have time, could you quickly explain how you choose your parralel lines when the filds are not square ? Always nice to follow your journey !
I think I choose the Case because of the transmission and the traction up the hills and the fuel economy the comfort is better on the field is always a +.
Really enyoing your videos! Can you give us a little update on the seeding progress? How much did you already plant and how much is left? Is there a Deadline where you have to be ready? Is it common that you dont seed everything because of weather or other "shit happens" moments?
I completely agree with you that every tractor doesn't work for everyone. Your huge machines wouldn't even get into my yard. I like your channel for the fact that you tell bad things about all brands and do not play favorites. My preferable brand are JCB Fastracs that wouldn't work for you since they top out around 300 hp. They might be useful as sprayers because of ride comfort and speed but that's it.
Youll buy a few acres of land for the price of an a/c seat.. For the price of coffee and ice cream every year youll probably also buy an acre. List goes on... Nice review!
Man what a fair comparison. I agree with everything you said. I'm curiously waiting to see what you think of the Trident when you try it. I tried one last year and absolutely hated it.
(Speaking as a Deere guy)...The Deere has a smoother ride going down the road specifically because it doesn't have a third bogey axle exactly under the vertical center line of the main axle, so it acts more like a walking beam axle. On the case, a one inch immediate rise of the center bogey causes an immediate one inch rise of the main axle. Not so on the two bogey Deere, the main axle rise is incremental because they are off the main axle vertical center line, and tend to walk over those odd bumps in the road. The only way the Deere would be more rough in the field (which I trust your observation), going against the seeded rows, would be, regrettably, if the distance between the seed rows happened to coincidentally too closely match the distance between bogey axle centerlines on the Deere, or match up in exactly the wrong way, whichever you prefer. In that instance the Case certainly would be smoother having a third bogey, riding the ridgetops. And btw I agree, all my adult life I have never understood why Case only installs a $5 stereo system in their equipment. On farms that run both color's and have a dozen hired men, everyone wants to run the Deere and no one wants to run the red one's, if for that reason alone (considering they don't own a bolt in either). Merry Christmas Mike, thanks for your awesome channel.
The dust, the filters. All those years ago, on the intake tubes, we had something called Turbo II (2) pre cleaners. They had blades, like a turbo, that spit out the dust. Before, you were cleaning the filters on your 525/50 every two days. After installing, why you could two weeks.
sunny some what in north carolina 5/26/2020, crazy u got freezing conditions in the end of may, cant b good fer ur seeds and sprouts.wow just nuts mike .really enjoy ur vids but man ur equipment frickin awesome!!!! mike great comparison vid hope ur munufactors r listening cause u b spillin knowledge today!!
Great content and I fully support the zero colour bias reviews 😜 in a perfect world manufacturers would use these kind of reviews to improve their weaknesses and result in all around better machines.
Nice video ;) the case has one big muffler on it. You asked why power lines are above ground it’s cheaper to build the line, not just in the beginning but also over the life time of the power line
This was quite intersting and pretty cool to see. Thanks for the vids Mike. 😁 And I agree about the colour bashing / manufacturer bashing... every manufacturer has their vision and what they want to make same like cars ... It's the vehicle you need to to the job you want it to do best that you gonna buy... no use buying an axe if you can buy a chainsaw to cut some trees to make a clearing... but for chopping wood for a fire the chainsaw may be a bit overkill... 😉 I love the sounds the farm vehicles make, so soothing 😎 Very informative videos. Learning quite a lot, thank you.
An outstanding, straight fwd review of two Agri giants. I know I’m late to the discussion but have you had the opportunity to test the Versatile Delta track? Or has Versatile even come into the conversation I guess is what I’m trying to say. Really enjoying your channel. Signed another proud 🇨🇦.
Thank you for the video update of Case vs JD. It sounds like the Case engine and transmission function is better on the Case. What about Titan tires on a case for a better ride, less cost? Would the traction be better as well?
Depends an awful lot on ground conditions. Compaction will almost certainly be better with tracks if you are no till, something else to consider is roading, we can’t use tires on the quads we have because they are just too wide for U.K. roads. Don’t believe everything you see on those Titan tire adds - the only reason I’d ever consider them is from a maintenance point of view. My opinion for what it’s worth!
new to this channel, what a great video, those Case 620s looks awesome, be a dream to drive one. Has he said how many acres he farms? why on earth would you need so many seeders of that size?
Case louder than the Deere? I‘ve heard that the Deere is much louder, that was often the reason why some farms in my country buyed a Quadtrac instead of a RX. Greetings from Germany
Great review mike, just a quick comment on the shifting, i run the e23 jd trans at the moment and if you double tap the gear lever it will shift up 2 gears at once, might be worth trying that in the rx, also i wonder why you drive in manual mode? Why not use custom auto, then you would just put the revs at full and use the stick to control what speed you want to acheive and let the revs figure themselves out, and you can change how much the revs droop down before shifting. And i know the auto is far from perfect, i have the issue where i have to have the trans set at a slow speed when i drop the rippers in the ground or the trans wont shift down fast enough and itll just put me in park. The way ive gotten around that is i use the itec, and i have it set so when i hit the button it slows the tractor down to the right gear then drops the rippers then speeds up to where i want it. I do prefer to use manual when im transporting but the auto is far better in the field. And yea the changes are slow and i dont want to make excuses because i would like to think they could make it quicker but, you have said the case has trans issues and i wonder if the slower changes are easier on the trans.
Excellent review. Its just like comparing computers, cars, appliances, etc. Its not because you own/use an IPhone that Android is garage and vice versa. Every machine/brand out there has their pros and cons. People just need to find the product/brand that mostly fits their needs/desires. Period. Good video
I like the comment about making a Frankentractor. Everything you want, no downside! // Regarding differing attributes, Mike really does a great analysis with reasons why, not just opinion.
Good video. I think case has always had an edge over deere w pulling power and I love the shifting and right hand control that you rarely have to take your hand off of.
Awesome review! I chose green because there are 4 dealers within 30min. Still not worth it. I can order all my parts online and get quicker better service. Lol I wouldn’t let them touch my equipment if you paid me.
I agree the shifting in a john deere is very delayed. But i dont know who all knows this but on odd number gears if you shift up twice very fast it will skip a gear. That is all the way up to 13 after that you can only go 1 at a time.
