Hill clip with a live ver. of Rooster for fun. The video and music certainly do not go together, just there for enjoyment.This was the first time I used a camecorder and it shows.However, for those of us who have been on the Hill, we certainly will enjoy this more than those who know nothing about it.

WOW! Didn't think I would ever see inside Hill 754 again. I was stationed 122nd Sig Battalion C company back in 81 to 84 and our company was in charge of this site. Not sure anymore who runs it. Looks exactly like it did before. Also, the Korean man their, wasn't he the cook? Hated driving up and down with a 2/1/2 ton but did it anyway. Loved flying up or down to Casey. Anyway thanks for the memories.

That mess hall/DFAC looks just about how I left it. And was that Applebee? The Quonset hut was upgraded with walls? We had hung wool blankets as dividers when I was there.

I remember the trip up from Camp Casey passed Scoonover bowl thru Tok-A Rea- (spelling?) along the river where the Korean woman washed cloths, and took baths...up passed the bunkers freezing in the back of the duce and a half...sometimes slipping and sliding on the muddy road up...I was in B Co 122 Signal....1973-74...it was almost a riot when they changed over from MPC to American dollars...

60 years ago on Dec 1, 1959, I took part in setting up one of the first relay test shots on Hill 754. Nothing was there at that time. I drove a Duce & Half VHF van up the hill with a MG power supply trailer on back. The road was nothing but a switchback dirt road to the top. There was an outcrop used for helo landings where I parked the van. Remarkable what the hill looks like today.

I was there for 90 days in 1996. Best detail ever. It was hilarious. I went on 30 days mid-tour leave from HHB DIVARTY/Camp Stanley, and when I got back, everyone was laughing because a "shit detail" came up when I was stateside, and they volunteered me since I wasn't there to object. But then they got jealous as hell when they found out I had 4 days on, 4 days off. During my off days, I'd usually bus back to Camp Stanley and chill. They'd get so pissed because they were going to PT, doing patty runs, etc, when I just stayed in bed and goofed off for 4 days. Hahaha, they thought they fucked me, but it was the most cake detail ever. I was there when the NCOIC (that SFC was awesome) adopted the puppy named Mike and brought him on The Hill. That little dog was tough as hell. He was riding in a HMMWV and for some reason he jumped out the window. That puppy rolled like a bowling ball. He came out of it without a scratch. Tough little dog. I'll never forget how dense the fog would get up there. And there were brightly colored little tree frogs everywhere. It was a great group of soldiers up there. Best gig ever. BAD BOYS OF CASEY 39'er!!!!!!!!!!!

I was in C-122, but at Camp Red Cloud on the Retrans team (TACSAT platoon) Jan 96 to Mar 97. However, some of my buddies were on 754, and I visited here a few times. An awesome little place, performing a very important mission.

Stationed in Camp Casey i took a trip to Hill 754 back in 1964 because I wanted to see where my antenna was bouncing the signal to off the mountain. (I operated Casey Carrier and Signal at the camp) I worked with a lot of good people and had the best sergeant in the world. I have a few black and white pictures but nothing like the video and pictures I've seen lately. The folks up there were building a gigantic model airplane, and i mean it was enormous. I wonder if it ever got completed?

Casey 39'r was a gold mine of intelligence for the north with it's in the clear text fm remote wire interface. Opsec went out the window when you dialed through the RWI. I pray they shut that down.

I was there during the Cuban Missle Crisis '62; sure looks 'uptown' compared to our dirty shacks back then; our 'houseboy' was Pak and we had our share of slickyboy thieves swiping 55 gal oil drums full of fuel from our diesel dump. It was more of an irritation than anything else and we kept it pretty much under control most of the time but one night a new recruit, fresh from the States was on "guard duty" such as it was and he shot a slickyboy in the head about One AM. That was pretty much of a 'No, No' back then and we had to stay up and guard not only the diesel dump but also the body until the ROK Army MPs, our own MPs and assorted high level civilians could make their way up the road, which at the time was around a 6 or 7 hour trip....
@sfortwunie8832

We didn't have a house boy, a cook or fuel station. Remember trotting down after about a foot and a half of snow to get supplies.. It's funny now, but damned if those five gallon barrels of water don't get heavy as fuck.
@duncanm3209
@duncanm3209 9 лет назад
Justin Roberts Where did you 'trot' down to...? As I recall, Camp Casey was not 'trotting distance', snow or not; the 'house boy' and 'cook' were one in the same guy but his duties were limited. The 'diesel dump' was a large flat area, carved out of the side of the hill, about 30 ft. or so from the other 3 or 4 hooches at the top. All the power was from the generators whose huge radiators were always covered with humongous moths that had to be scraped off. October of '62 was the missile crisis and I found a PBS program on what that situation was like for those who either don't remember, weren't born yet or would just like a 'refresher course' in 'Mexican Stand-offs' Here tis: video.pbs.org/video/2295274962/

The foot of the hill. And I don't know if they had drinky girls in the 60's but they did in 01. Lol couldn't get the taxi driver to ever drive all the way up. I can't remember the name of the town now.
@duncanm3209
@duncanm3209 9 лет назад
Justin Roberts Taxi?? There was no road when I was there, just a rutted trail; it would take 4 or 5 hours to drive down to Casey and longer back up. "Drinky Girls"?? I can only guess what they were all about. As far as the town you can't remember the name of..., was it Dongducheon, just outside Casey's main gate?? Nice to run into somebody here in more or less real time even though our experiences on the hill are separated by 40 years....
@sfortwunie8832
@sfortwunie8832 9 лет назад
Lol for real, a lot must of changed in 40 years. If I'm remembering right half the trip up was paved,the 2nd half I think. Drinky girls are exactly what it sounds like. They were usually philapeno or Russian. I don't think that was the name of the town but maybe. It was just a party town for military. Being on the hill killed my pt scores, I remember that much.lol
