Casey Jones is an American children's Western TV series that ran during the 1957-1958 television season, based around the pioneering western railroads.
The series aired in syndication in the United States. Casey Jones aired on the BBC in the United Kingdom and on the Nine Network in Australia. The series is set in the late 19th century, featuring the adventures of railroad engineer Casey Jones and the crew of the Cannonball Express steam locomotive, fireman Wallie Sims and conductor Redrock Smith, working for the Midwest and Central Railroad. Casey lived in Midvale, a fictional town within commuting distance of St. Louis, Missouri, with his wife, Alice, their young son, Casey, Jr., and their dog Cinders. Although there really was a famous locomotive engineer named Casey Jones of the Illinois Central, the television series is only very loosely based on him.
However, it uses the real names of his train, the Cannonball Express, and his fireman, Wallie. Kenneth Gamet, the producer of Casey Jones, offers a gentler Western series against the more violent adult shows of the time. Casey Jones features the same classical types of plots as other westerns such as train robbers and vandals, but the episodes center as much on Casey's interaction with his family, particularly Casey, Jr.

Casey jones steaming and a rolling, for anyone who doesn’t know what I mean is, Casey jones was an American railroad engineer who was killed when his steam locomotive collided with a stalled train, there was a tv series with Casey jones played by Alan Hale in the late 50s and was rerun on British tv in the 60s and was a weekly half hour series

This was a wonderful American TV series. They used to show it on British TV back in the 1970s and early 1980s, in the afternoon during the school holidays. And, back in about 1983, there used to be a takeaway hamburger restaurant at Charing Cross railway station, London, named Casey Jones. In the corner, by the exit for Villiers Street. Casey Jones takeaway restaurants were in most big railway stations (Waterloo, Euston, Liverpool Street, Victoria, etc.). Actually, their burgers were really good, as well.

As a kid I loved this show so much that my first pet, a rabbit, was called Casey Jones. That tune has been in the back of my head for over 50 years and still reappears from time to time. However, somehow my brain transformed the lyrics to "Casey Jones, steaming like a loco". Thanks for the memories.

I was a mid 60s kid & loved this series. I worked in the machining industry for years & while arguing with one of the technical so called experts from the office about why we couldn't make what he wanted with the equipment we had, He glared at me & said " don't tell me it can't be done I'm an engineer ! " My reply was " so was Casey Jones & all he did was toot the whistle ! " He had never seen or heard of him so the comment was lost on him. University gives qualifications not ability to use them....

I understand how you felt. I lived a block away from a railroad crossing and noticed the same thing. My first time seeing a static steam engine was when I too was six. I was pretty excited to see that and a strange feeling came over me that they looked familiar and felt a kinship towards them. Maybe I worked for the railroad in a past life. 😉😄. It was many years later that I learned why they switched to diesels and been a life long rail buff.
