Regarding the comment to always put self-consumption over export from your Solar PV, I have to disagree for the following reason. I was earlier in the year (2023) on "Intelligent Octopus GO" which originally was only compatible with SEG (described in this video) at 4.5p/kWh. However, Octopus also had another 15p/kWh fixed export rate on a tariff called Octopus Export. I therefore, ran my FoxESS in "Self-Consumption" mode. A few months ago towards the end of the summer, Octopus opened up Octopus Export 15 p/ kWh exported to customers on the Intelligent Octopus which has 6 hours (22:30-05:30) at a low rate of 7.5 p/kWh principle for EV charging. I then switched my Fox ESS into Export before battery charging mode and enabled force charging from the grid during off-peak hours. Therefore every morning at 5:30 am I have a full batter (filled at 7.5 p) and my PV generation goes to the grid earning 15p. Throughout the day Solar PV initially meets the needs of the home and when there is insufficient the battery supports the load from the stored cheap off-peak power. I only sip power from the grid infrequently when the Hybrid inverter is maxed out. Throughout daylight hours the battery gradually discharges in support of the solar without recharging from the PV. After sunset, I then continue to draw essentially from the previous night's off-peak electricity until 11:30 pm. Through until October I was Charging my car, Heating hot water and Charging the battery for about £60/month but also got paid over £40/month for export netting a total energy cost of around £20 a month since it costs half the cost to fill my battery at 7.5p than forgo the export at 15p. Why would I prefer to charge my battery during the day from the sun?

Great to see the smart tariff options build in to the inverter app 7:35

Tip: When the Energy Trader with the braces comes on, set RU-vid to 75% speed.

With the SEG tariff, you earn a flat rate of 4.1p/kWh for every unit of power you export.

Gordon travels all over the place, he's the Judith Charmers of the electrical world, but with a bigger head and he doesn't wear a dress though ... apart from Saturdays nights.

I personally gone for fixed 15p per kW export and tracker fir import. Over the moon with octopus energy.

Octopus Flux only supports GivEnergy batteries at the moment not SunSynk. An inverter has to develop higher than the incoming mains voltage to export energy. Some inverters are rated at 264Vac max output. How much higher does it have to be? My usual mains voltage varies between 248V and 252V as I am near the start of a long rural overhead line and that is at the top of the tolerance range. If the inverter goes higher it will be stressing appliances in my house that are designed to accept 253Vac maximum. Please comment. What happens if my neighbours want to export too? Do we get an arms race with each inverter trying to beat the others? Does the DNO stop further inverters being added?

It would be good to see a video that discussed different inverters, features etc on the market. Well explained by big G. Going by the amount of holidays he has - does he live in the UK??? 😂

Lots more on inverters and solar coming up. We’ve heard rumours Gordon is off on another mission soon!

Few mistakes, -Octopus is in more countries -You can just switch off exporting in settings and still generate what your house load is, house usage plus charging battery/batteries. -Last time I've checked, Octopus Flux in Sunsynk app wasn't working. Let's hope they have fixed it in last update a long with other things. All in all, it is ok app, just not user friendly when it comes to manually set it to charge/discharge. Its a little head twister.

Indeed Sunsynk's Octopus Flux feature does not currently export. A couple of weeks ago technical support confirmed with me that this would be launched in the next few weeks, but they had a higher priority migration to complete before that.

You might need to update your firmware on the inverter.
@asabriggs6426

@@eFIXXENERGY Not sure about that; the tech-support mentioned they needed to complete server-side updates (to Region 2) before they would proceed with the Octopus Flux tariff valuation feature. Moreover the inverter's model number is tied to the inverter's firmware; I'd worry about changing the firmware in-case the G99 permission is no longer valid!

Supporting Sunsynk is devaluing the eFixx brand. They are poor quality budget equipment. The support is appalling, the settings have confusing names, the UI for the app and web portal would have been acceptable 10 years ago, some settings on the inverter have different names/terminology on the app/website, I believe it's the only hybrid inverter available in the UK that doesn't have an earth-neutral in the unit, access to terminals for installation is difficult. I'm genuinely angry about the continued support for this terrible company.

Thanks for the feedback. We are working our way through this inverter, exploring the salient features. Regarding the earth-neutral bond, you should dig a little deeper into other inverters. For many of the others in the market, you can't have an EN bond as the output is centre-tapped.
