Excellent comparison video. Many more upgrades than just the light. The LED light also uses less power than the EL light. Allegedly why they now have the 3 second option. I happen to like the new pale white color better. 😬
great comparison - thank you very much! I have the old version and I wear it every single day for more than 10 years now and it still works perfectly. I love that watch but I wished, I could swap MM.DD to DD.MM. The white color of the letters on the case have become worn meanwhile but that's it. It is my true every day carry device, it has become a part of myself, I'd say ;-)
The date format might not be needed in the IS or the UK or Australia or Canada… but everywhere else it does. And the atomic satellite function as well as the solar powered function ate an awesome upgrade. And even though the color of the light might not be the nicest, you can set how long the light to last 3 seconds and to light up every time you point it at your face. Cool as can be!!
Am a Manchester lad in uk, i love the new u version with the updates, but if you're American and so forth, then your not going to be arsed about the option of the date reversal mode, so each to there own, just loving how world war 3 is breaking out with a passion 😅😅😅over a watch, but the extra features are boss though guys.
Your'e wrong about being able to change the time format as no reason in the UK, If you live in Europe, That one upgrade alone is the best reason to get the new version. That stupid date format with the month first looks so wrong to us.
Besides LED lasting longer than EL, LED uses less power. That's why most manufacturers switched to LED; also, the old version's afterglow is only 1.5 seconds, whic is useless and can't be adjusted. The new version has selectable 1.5 or 3 seconds. I have both; I prefer the new version.
It looks like the display on the new version is a little easier to read too? Higher contrast and you don't see a faint remnant of the numbers/digits that are off?
I love the green EL light from the old model, so unique! The new white LED from the side is a deal breaker for me, unfortunately, since all the other new features are so nice
No. Half-life is correct. Because after a certain amount of time it is only half as bright as it was at the beginning. On the website Focus LCDs the also called it half-life.
@@tydshiin5783But if you use the EL backlight sparingly, it can last many years. On a Timex indiglo, I used the backlight for about 9 years before it faded out.
Agree.. UNFORTUNATLY the new Version doesn't have a good contrast at higher angles. For exmpl my f91w is better. The alarm sound is also low but in my opinion not impossibile to hear. I think at casio they preferednto focus on solidity, durabity and functionalities
Isn't it true the color get darker as you wear? Maybe your old one used to be same kind of color when you first got it? The most attractive upgrade is the presence of current time in timer and stop watch modes. Many people are hating the backlight, but everything else is better in the newer model.
This is my first G-Shock. It's pretty impressive except for one thing, the alarm is about impossible to hear. I can only hear it if I hold it up to my ear. Any suggestions?
I remember the television commercial in the 80's of a g shock being used as a hockey puck. tough watch! I have a 5610 and love that it's battery never needs replacement. My other watches need almost yearly replacement
I recently turned off the time signal receiving on mine to see how accurately it functioned as a normal quartz watch, and discovered something amazing. After a week of keeping time 'on its own' it is still spot on - not even out by a fraction of a second. What a watch!
Yep, tried the same thing on mine after I got it and it was still right to the second after a month without signal. From what I've seen, there are two crystal quartz in those modules instead of one. Not sure what it's for. It would be amazing if the watched used the two oscillators at once to average the frequency and reduce clock drift.
G-Shocks are guaranteed to +/- 15 sec / month (+/-0.5 sec / day). But, just like with their water resistance, typically, they perform better than spec (~ +/- 5 sec / month; >200 m WR)
Wish the color was Black and not Dark Grey... But other than that I don't mind the differences. And they are going for relatively the same price. So unless you are put off by the Grey and/or the light, there is no reason to go for the older version. I will be changing the band, usining Jays And Kays LLC metal addaptors. Resin and Good Leather just don't do well when I sweat, both ends of the spectrum LOL... they get distroyed.
If your'e buying this watch for the first time and don't have the old version, The new one is a better choice in my opinion, Just for the date format alone.
Neither, they are both over kill, save yourself some money and get a Casio f91 or Casio AE-1200whd-1AVCF and after 10 years when the battery has run out you can either replace it or get a new watch, but if you are really sold by the G Shock go for it, you can never have to many Casio watches, they are addictive.
I've the old version and it's fine .. bought in 2015 .. backlight is fine also .. it's used a lot .. I like it better than the new version .. but thank you for posting. :)
Why worry about the lifespan of LED vs. EL?.. The vintage G-shock dw-5000c has bulb light but still working till today.. We only use the light seconds per day & sometimes we do not use it.. It will last more than our lifetime so it does not matter as long as we don't use it as a flashlight or a lamp at night.. & more people liked the beauty of the LED light more than the old green light of the EL.. It is more modern & cooler than the EL..
Personally I'd base it on which is better for using, since I would probably replace the watch at some point in my lifetime. Before I got into casio watches I was looking into Samsung smart watches (or "swatches" as watch people seem to call them). You could spend extra for titanium while the base model is aluminum. The problem is that, just like their phones, they are planned obsolescence products. Having anything more than aluminum just outlives the components inside of it, and outlives its limited amount of software updates. So it's kind of the same idea as the Gshock LED.
Reading the downloaded manual for new version it states that even if you receive atomic update it MIGHT NOT be accurate due to differences in ionosphere.
Never heard of that before with the ionosphere affecting the accuracy of the time. I have got a few A.T. watches for more than 17 years .. never had that problem.
