I bought a ProTrek Night Safari prg-650, after watching your enthusiastic review of it a few years ago. As a daily hiker, I can unequivocally state that it is a performer. I've found that you have to calibrate the compass, barometer & altitude functions twice a year (all 3 of which I do use), but once they're dialed in, it's go time. The glow-in-the-dark rubber strap never fails to amuse my nieces and nephews as well LOL. This new version looks awesome, might be time for an upgrade!
Same here. I've gone a little nuts collecting Protreks myself. I had the 650 safari and then traded up off the deepend.😅 I now have a Prw-6600, Prw-30, Prw-60T, and PRT-B70-2CR. I now plan on picking up this watch and a PRw-70T. I just love the functionality of the things without being quite the beast on your wrist like a Gshock. 😂 My only complaint is the 30s, 50s and 60/1s all have a 23mm lug width..strao swaping is not fun. Especially if you've got big wrists.
Thanks for giving REAL watch reviews. I’m tired of people posting “watch reviews” only to see someone turning a watch around in their hands to crappy music. 🙄
There's a lot of confusion between the PRW51s and 61s. They're different watches, but similar enough to trip anyone up (including me). Love them both, have multiples of both. Superb watches.
I set the World Time to Wellington New Zealand which is +12 UTC which is also UTC in GMT. So you can count plus or minus without changing to UTC on the watch. It's a full GMT. The furthest is Kiritimati but that's +14 UTC and the watch doesn't have it.
I wish the backlighht on this was the cool blue one that only lights up the LCD and loom like on the Prw-60T or even better the Prw-70t. I will admit though the super led on these watches can be a great emergency flashlight in a hotel room. They will light up a dark room.
I've got a Pro Trek PRT-B50-1ER, bought it for the barometer and legibility. The carbon core makes it super light, I've put it on a 22mm rugged NATO strap and it's even more comfortable. It's just missing the tide graph & tough solar to be the (close to) perfect field watch.
I was totally about to "upgrade" from the ggb100 I am confused because this one won't figure 8 calibrate or take barometric pressures at 10x more accuracy. I as assuming it's something to do with the reflectiveness and solar power. You'd burn your eyes out. But, it's more casual.. And made of food stuff and I work in the industry.
Man I'm stuck between wanting this, the Prg-340T or the new PRW-6900Y-3....I'm gonna try to get all 3 but trying to find Protreks in the NA market nevermind sales is tough. Far to often I have to go jdm....thank god for sites like sakura watches then so I don't get completely hosed.
on backplate is nothing about Thailand. good 👍 Plus lume is in full length of the indices, awesome. 'Cause some other Protreks has very short part of the lume indices.
How would you compare this to the Prw-60T? I believe you had one in the past. I just picked up a 60T and I really like it. Enough that I'm thinking of picking up a 61 with the new indices and back light. Yeah I think I'm becoming a Protrek collector. I've got a few now.😅 Its so underrated compared to gshocks and from my exp hunting and fishing with them they are plenty tough.
Am I crazy or does anyone actually use the timezones on the face to calibrate the hour hand to world time? I feel like it would be something to do.. every half hour or so. lol. I have the ggb100 triple sensor mudmaster and theres nothing on the face to guide you.. Anything thats not your home time is like jumping off a cliff trying to find it. lol.
