I got mine in 2001 before going to the military academy. I used it in all my training exercises and even after. The best part… I still have it and it’s still running… An absolute classic watch which indeed was way ahead of its time especially in terms looks.
I got a PRT-70 in the 90s and still use and love the 70. Back then, it was a big purchase and I got it for the altimeter for when cycling in mountains. It was and is awesome. Love this one here too.
I got the very first version 1994 ATC-1100 when I was in my early 20’s. Almost threw it away a few years ago when I was first getting into watches as I thought it was just an old quartz watch not worth replacing batteries. So glad I kept it and now I would never get rid of it. FYI - the long strap is because it is meant to go over a snow jacket when you’re trekking or skiing. When I first got it I cut the strap done because I didn’t know why so long.
Got this watch around '98. Point man in Ranger School with an issued compass that was seized. At the time, gps was limited to about +/- 200m. With the altimeter I was more accurate with my land navigation than the RI's in mountain phase. I could even tell the guys when a storm was going to happen, thanks to the barometer. Hopefully, I still have the watch saved with my gear bags... if little hands haven't intervened.
I just recently got an ATC-1200, the precursor to the PRT-40 and love it, something about that functionality built into something from the 90s is so cool to have.
I share your exact same memory... Only it was in 1999 and I was 11 years old. Seeing this in the window of a store was like seeing something from another world. Insanely cool. However, my parents bought me the PRT-20. I still own that one, it's beat, but still runs perfectly.
I also looked at this and later Pro Treks, but couldn't justify the cost at the time. A few years later, I did get a Pulsar SAM watch though, and still have it. Late 90s was a great time for watch designs...
I was talking to my dad about this piece while watching your review. He said “wait here”, and suddenly showed up with the same watch 😮 (black instead of silver), in perfect condition. What a pity I cannot upload a picture here
I know the nostalgic feelings.... when I was at middle school I have Casio calculator with invaders game built in it CA-51.... Now it costs toooooo much... ;-)
У меня очень схожая история, только мой грааль это alt-6000, которые были у моего одноклассника. Мне понадобилось 25 лет чтобы наконец заполучить их. И понеслось...
My grail at that time was timex datalink irionman triathlon - the one with green fluorescent LCD. Until this day I do now own watch with better and clearer LCD. Optical data sync via CRT monitor was an insane feature back then, unfortunately windows 98 and Me ware last operating systems that supported this. Afterwards you could use external adapter with a diode and fan made driver for linux. These days all I need is one digital GW-M5610 and one ultra light/flat 9mm analog titanium radio controlled citizen. Pretty much all my other watches are collecting dust and value 😈
I bought it at 1996 when i was 20 years old, and after some years i lost it cause i changed house Last week accidentally i found it, i changed batteries and it works just like new Now,i am searching a strap and i will give it to my 12yo son who is waiting impatiently
Try resetting it with the AC connection OR keep taking them out and in until everything starts working properly. I recently had to change them on mine and it took me 10 tries to start working properly
I would soon have this type of watch over a rolex I feel that you a getting better value for your money with the functions it can do don't get me wrong I have a few machinecal watches in my collection one is my dad's from the 1930s
