On September 3rd Shay 6 was fired up and moved under its own power for the first time in 5 years the engine was used during the night photo session on Sunday which was a huge surprise. On September 4th after the Climax runs we chased the Whittaker train all the way to Gum Curve after that we decided to start making our way back home as we were getting closer to Gum Road Crossing I heard a whistle and then heard chuffing and finally saw smoke. I was wondering what is going on? When we crossed over the tracks I saw Big 6 with its safety valve popping and so much black smoke making its way up the mountain for the first time in many years. It was just by luck that I saw it but didn't have time to get my camera out and shoot some video of it. But I knew it had to come down the mountain so I waited at Back Mountain Road Crossing for it and sure enough not even 5 minutes later it did. It was so awesome seeing Big 6 used on the mountain and I cant wait to see the engine do it again. 6 was wearing a homemade 3 chime for all of you wondering.
