The Casstrom Lars Falt Bushcraft Knife from Sweden may may not be a great fit for the Kephart knife series, but it shares enough similarities with the Kephart design that I thought it was worth including. Truthfully, I think it is a good example of how Horace Kephart designed his classic knife based on sound universal design features found on classic knives the world over.

Hi, the Lars Fãlt knife was designed by Ray Mears and Lars Fãlt (who are close friends) from the inspiration of the Woodlore knife by Ray Mears and Allen Wood. So, it's not considered a Kephart knife by design. Ray got his inspiration from Scandinavian knife makers with an emphasis on wood carving and bushcraft. Designed with a scandi grind, a 90°spine and a thick blade to handle hardcore Bushcraft tasks. The latest models (distributed within this pass year) Casström Lars Fãlt knives are fashioned out of an updated Sleipner steel (not BÖHLER k720) which is corrosion resistant, has better edge retention and increased hardness. On the other hand, the Kephart was more like a butcher knife initially, save modern renditions that incorporated Bushcraft knife alterations "LT Wright Genesis" being one of these examples. So it's actually the opposite. The modern style Kephart knives design features were taken from Bushcraft knives (that being ones with the scandi grind), notably the Woodlore. Oh, and the pronunciation is like "fault". Hope this helped 😊

Great video thanks. Looks like a great knife too. Classic bushcraft and woods knife. I have the folding version, 3 inch blade with the same scales, Scandi knife and love it as I can EDC it around town legally. I think it is a quality folder worth the money I paid. Sharp out of the box and easy to sharpen too.

Nice video! Your pronunciation of Lars Fält was very good. He started as an officer at the oldest ranger battalion in I22 in kiruna in the very north of sweden, then moved to the Para Rangers where he started the Army’s (nowdays armed forces) survival school where I met him during my time at the paras. He was educated in both the SAS and the SEAL and also Green Berets if I remember correctly. I learned a lot from him.

Bryan, I saw your interview with the guy that designed that Kephart knife. That ol' boy is the real deal! Of all the knives you've shown in this series, I have to say, The "Standard" Kephart has been the one I like best. I think I even know why. When I look at the end of that knife I see almost an Old Hickory butcher knife shape. Then I look again and I see a throwing knife shape, which would also be good for digging and gouging in wood, when I wasn't fightin' off a bear or mountain lion. That grind that starts almost at the spine and tapers in a simple flat down to the secondary edge, which is only there to give some durability to the edge, and just screams "Make some feathers, Make some feathers!" LOL I do know, because I'm the cook around here since my wife's stroke, that that is an excellent blade shape and grind for meal tasks. It just really looks utilitarian to me, although I really don't claim to know a lot about bush knives, personally.

Hey, whats the difference between K720 Steel and Sleipner Steel?
@SurvivalOnPurpose
@SurvivalOnPurpose 3 года назад
From The Cas Iberia website: "Böhler Tool Steel K720* (O2) is a very tough and strong oil hardened high carbon tool steel. The chemical composition allows it to be hardened to a high degree whilst maintaining ductility and toughness at the same time as it is easy to sharpen and can obtain a razor sharp edge. Whilst easy to sharpen, the low chromium content means it will tarnish if left wet and it must therefore be wiped after use and protected by oil or wax when put away for storage." Made in Germany by Bohler Uddeholm, *Sleipner tool steel* was developed to be a better D2. Under certain conditions at high hardness levels D2 can have a tendency to micro-chip. Sleipner offers many of the advantages as a high hardness tool steel like D2 while offering a much more stable edge. It also offer good wear resistance at high hardness levels, meaning it can take and hold an edge quite well.

You just say Losh, so you'd pronounce his name Losh Felt. my name is Lars, I made the mistake of trying to go by Losh in college and half of the school of music wound up calling me Larch. Lars is fine but hearing Larss with emphasis on the -s is like a dagger to the ears.
