I demonstrate how I cast a mini aluminum skillet using only basic tools and skills. Throughout the video, I also talk about some casting tips, like when to pour the metal and how wet greensand should be.
Don't forget to subscribe to see more casting projects, fireballs, and explosions!
For other casting projects, check out the metal casting section of my website: sciencewithscre...

You should pack the sand as you fill the flask rather than waiting till it's full. Start off by mounding sand on top and around the pattern, pack this against the pattern with your hand. Then fill the flask with sand till it just covers the sand packed on top the pattern, and pack it down. Continue filling the flask with 2-3" of sand and packing it till it's full. This will result in better definition and less casting defects. I would also add more vents.

Sodium chloride and sodium carbonate...do you use 50% of each..? Ie equal parts of each...

Yes, I think it was something like that.

Great, just subscibed, if you can also teach us how to food safe coat it DIY, that'd be awesome. Is there a vıdeo like that someone can recommend?

You would probably want to search for "aluminum anodizing" - I believe that will put a food safe coating on it.

Hi I can get bentinite by 50lb bags at local farm stores for less than 20 dollars. I mix it in my sand and it works well. I may try one of the pans in the future. I have some brass that I may try.

Ever tried anything like this with soda cans? Any problems with the metal?
@ChaseW26
@ChaseW26 5 лет назад
You’re going to have a literal fuckton of dross because of all the paint on the cans. I was originally planning to use cans as my main source for casting but they’re so much work I’d rather stick to stripping aluminum wire

I have found out that you can add some table salt to the aluminum melt and it will make the aluminum run thinner....

Is your clay crucible homemade? If so, how do I make one?
@ThePlutoniumBunny
@ThePlutoniumBunny 6 лет назад
No, sadly it is not homemade - I believe it was a clay-graphite crucible bought online. However, I have determined that mixing 8 parts clay dug and prepared from my backyard with one part sand makes a clay body that holds up reasonably well to high temperatures. I haven't tested that mix as a crucible yet, but it worked well for a tube for making a tube furnace - no cracking.

The Plutonium Bunny Thanks! I found some red clay and I already have some sand. I'll mix crushed brick in it as well and see what happens.

@@sakuraknight9274 bake it first in an electric kitchen oven and make sure moisture is totally gone. It may work good.

I have heard of the links with aluminum and issues. The way to overcome the problem is to "Tin" the pan. Watch a video on how the guys with copper pans "Tin" them for the same reasons. not only does it seal the surface but a bit of silver is good for you.

If you grind up some aluminum and sprinkle it in your food you will ingest it a lot faster. 👍😆
