That's actually a really good point about having an official warning. Soccer has yellow cards, basketball it's two technicals or flagrant fouls , football has specific personal fouls that can lead to ejections. MLB could definitely do with more clearly defined just cause for ejection rather than just the umpire feeling like it.

You already know the answer. You can't say that to the ump. It's personal. It's the bright line that's been in baseball since before we all were born. You can attack the call to a point (unless it's balls/strikes). But you can't attack the man. Saying "you suck" is not salvageable no matter what comes after it. Technically it's about the calls, I guess, but the "you suck" at the front of it betrays the ultimately personal nature of the attack.

Who gives a damn if it's personal or not, every other person on that field is going to hear personal shit talking in every game, but the umpires can't blow off a "you suck at your job". There's a reason why baseball has crap ratings.
@allbrosdjay
@allbrosdjay 3 года назад
@@thecaynuck4694 They could also not suck at their job. Baseball is incredibly favored towards pitchers. League batting average is at the lowest it has ever been since the mlb has existed. Pitchers don't need and shouldn't get a few inches out of the zone. Also umpires go outside the rulebook all the time. If they don't like how a batter reacts some will purposely call a pitch a strike that was farther out of the zone. 99% of the time there is no punishment for umpire who make judgment calls based off emotions. You want people to stop getting mad at umpires? Then overall, umpires need to stop being bad.

@@vanillatwice Actually the reason he was saying the ump was bad at his job was because he was called out on strikes. Any conversation with the umpire about that you think it was wrong is arguing the call. The content of the conversation is irrelevant, the fact that Castellanos was arguing like that to the umpire was enough to get him tossed. @adamwatkins1150 3 года назад
It was closer on the replay than the box was. It was right there. You can see the shadow right underneath the batter, so it's not at some crazy angle. The shadow is basically under the ball or maybe ever so slightly to the left of it. Technically, not giving the black, yeah it was a ball. But only by a few hairsbreadths. When you whine and rant and personally attack on the slightest little itsy bitsy mayyyyybe it was off the plate a 16th of an inch, you lose all credibility, and you're going to get tossed much quicker than if you save it for when your gripe is legitimate.

I'm always impressed by hitters who know the difference between a strike and a ball that's an inch or 2 out of the zone. However, I played ball pretty competitively for about 12 years and my coaches always taught me to adjust to the umpires zone. Didn't matter if the pitch was "technically" a ball and what REALLY didn't matter was if you saw 2 pitches in a row and just looked at the second one like you thought the ump was gonna change his mind. A lot of umps irritate the hell out of me but the idea that a human is expected to always call a pitch exactly right w/in LESS than an inch is nonsense. Also, if we're being honest, the major league strike zone is very small...honestly too small.... so I only have sympathy when the pitch is more than 2 balls outside of the zone. Inside of that, the pitch is still very hitable for pretty much every hitter. And for anyone who complains about that, you need to appreciate hitters like Vlad Guerrero Sr and Javy Baez (to name a very few) that just free swing and put good wood on a lot of "Bad Balls".

They stand there for saftey reasons. It's called "the slot", and it's currently the best option for umpires to setup to see the pitches as accurately as possible while being in as little danger as possible. If they were to setup in the dead center of the plate then they're dramtically increase their risk of taking a foulball straight to the facemask which can cause concussions (plus if you take a look at the pause at 1:48 the pitch has the corner of the plate which should be called a strike).

And you probably think you walked to school uphill in the snow both ways, too. And that the snowstorms were bigger when you were a kid. Nope. People are people. Prideful. Craving respect. Telling someone who made a call on a pitch that could have gone either way that "You suck..." is asking to be tossed. You WANT to go if you say that. And everyone knows it. MLB will not even give a second thought to that ejection. The umpire supervisor probably wanted some explanation as to the second one, though.

This is not being soft. It's stated in the rulebook (which so many fans like you never read) that arguing balls and strikes is ejectable. Especially when you use magic words like "you ____." Any personal insult, umpires are forced to eject a player. Don't blame them, umpires just enforce the rules they're told to follow. Castellanos needs to swing at borderline pitches and keep his mouth shut.
