Ginger is a trooper..it must be so odd for her to walk with it on She doesnt know that it is there to help her with her future prospects of getting adopted and living a pain free life..Miss Ginger is a bit of a foot shoe escapologist..but they're not giving up on this special lady..big thanks to Dr Nancy and Elijah for not giving up on this lovely lady..🇬🇧💞✝️🙏🐎👍🤞👏🇺🇸

I love all you people for not giving up on little Ginger. If your treatment of her club foot works for her ability to be a saddle horse I hope and pray other owners of foals with the same problem will find a team of Vet and Farrier who will attempt the same magic. No foal should be left with a club foot. My husband and I did our best with a newborn foal with front feet rolled forward so it stood on it's toes. We were blessed with a very friendly mare to work around! She let us put pvc pipe casts on the front legs(w/lots of cotton padding under) to gradually get body weight to stretch those ligaments and bring the foot down successfully. That only worked because it was a new foal. Early is best but now I see the hope for all the other young horses who haven't had intervention. Bless you people, one and all for your work.

Ginger is helping Dr Nancy learn more about club foot post-op. If this works, maybe a future club footed horse could be helped. Dr Nancy will the be expert other vets will go to.

Fingers toes and eyes crossed that this one holds longer! It looks nice and solid.

I am a little surprised they aren't using some sort of rubber horse shoe platform and extension that is either glued or nailed on or a little of both. However, this looks to be working. I don't thing Ginger is the extension escapee that ppl are calling her in the comments...she walks nicely with the wood secured it's just too much torque on the toe board for the heel board to stay in place...physics is the winner here... Ginger just plays along. Hopefully she is starting to get halter and lead trained as this proceeds so pretty soon she will be happy to stand for this without needing the sedation. How long is a typical recovery from a club foot tendon surgery? I bet they are nomally younger then her when performed and so it might take her a little longer. Especially having to grow the hoof out in a different direction which is coming along nicely. What an amazing save this will be... she HAD to have the surgery to live and so far it is working!

In the U.K,,they have a hoof repair treatment with Epoxy..should check it out..

If you fill in the angle between the tip of the extension and just under the coronary band she won’t be able to hook the tip of the extension under any edge and just pry it off. Maybe?

She's such a pretty horse and seems to be cooperating as best she can. Hopefully we don't get an update video in a couple days showing the remains of the extension on the ground. I had to deal with orthodic inserts when I was young. They felt weird and hurt at first so I can empathize with her. I cooperated for a year and then basically told my parents my feet were as good as they were going to get, buy me sneakers (I'd had to wear hard sided shoes for the inserts), or I'd go to school barefoot. I think I also tossed the orthodics in the bushes somewhere as well.

What is the long-term outlook for a horse like Ginger? Will she be someone's beloved pasture pet, or will she ever be able to do light work, like pulling a light cart? She's such a sweetheart, you'll have no trouble adopting her out once she's ready.

Have you tried something like orthoplast? Talk to an orthotist, they make afo's and such for people to walk on.

Why not make an Aluminium shoe with a tongue extension? A nailed shoe has to be better than one that’s glued or strapped on?

Ginger will have to catch up on being a horse after being so isolated....

From a european sperspective, is the extension to long . You could cut ut half and still would work great . And also would not Fall of so fast . Best regards from vet in Austria

If you aren’t already would a Back on Track quick wrap or no bow wrap help with her swelling and most importantly help with the healing? I’d love to see if it helps!

I know that Botox has been used successfully on the tendons of children with cerebal palsy who walk on their tip toes because their condition won't let the todons relax. The Botox seems to work well with this. I have no idea if it would be of any use for Ginger.

Just an idea ; using a hoof boot ( for trail riding ) like easy boot , cut a hole for the wood to go through the front . Maybe it would stay on better ?

Maybe let the cement cure before you allow her to walk with the extension?

Have you not heard of a swan necked shoe?
