Tom, it typically gets a little windy down here in Texas too! A trick I also use switch from placing my thumb on top of my rod handle to my index finger. I feel this shortens my back cast and helps me to cast tighter loops.

Step 1 casting in windy conditions: make sure your barb is crimped. Step 2: make sure your buddy fishing next to you has his barb crimped. I know from experience, this will save you a trip to the urgent care and/or clothing repair or replacement.

Wind or no wind Minimize all false casting you can’t catch fish in the air . My father taught me that .
