Howard Strawford made Coombe into something really special. Fast and very challenging circuit to drive, great paddock grass for camping and, most of all, great paddock restaurant with excellent food, staffed by people who gave every impression of wanting to be there - with Howard always to be seen eating at one of the tables. Best club race circuit by a mile.
Very entertaining! Some close chasing on at the end with the MX5s, the way some people were spinning out from being stopped on the grass you would think they have welded their diffs!
Basically it's the first hard corner. From the start straight there is a fast right up hill, it then bares left over the crest which is also the main braking zone for this corner. The car is unweighted and unbalanced and you are braking hard from almost top speed. The back of the car steps out if you are not straight as you brake. The corner it self is slightly off camber and down hill which just adds to the unsettled car. It is a notoriously bad corner for the inexperienced but also great fun if you hit it right and plant the throttle for the run to the first chicane
The last corner also catches people out if you miss the braking zone, it's a lot tighter than people realise, if you miss it you're going on the grass, or spinning in the middle of the track with a bunch of cars behind all braking hard to avoid hitting you. Check out some of the performance action day track videos for some real cringe moments.
sniggs101 so my suspicions were close. This is my home track in California USA, Thunderhill Raceway. “The Bypass” and “Cyclone” gets people, both an off camber crest that breaks right. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4MqUDR_C-AI.html
