I had a slash ultimate 4x4 that I went through a number of set ups on for different purposes. Speed runs, bashing and also a race set up. Went from Castle SV3 3800kv for begginer bashing. Then had a Tekin RX8 gen 2 Sensored 4600kv Pro4 when racing. Finally for speed runs but also useful for bashing non stop without the motor or ESC breaking a sweat was a MM2 2200kv 1/8 combo on 4s. I'd have to say the Slash 4x4 was one of the most versatile platforms I owned.
I got the same castle Creations 5700 combo,I run it in my Armma Typhon, with 3s 5200 50 rate battery. Its very fast, and yes it heats up,so I got 2 fans motor and 1 fan cliped to my ESC.My hearing is slot different than yours, but My 1/8 Typhon hits 52 mph,all stock settings.I love this motor
Might I suggest you set some negativ expo on the throttle to make it less linear on the initial take off. Or use traxxas TSM/spektrum AVC traction control to make it more controlable at the intended speed you're achieving. Good luck
+Nathan ter Stege hi it's a vxl model and the tam is on. However even with the throttle sensitivity dialed back on the tsm the castle has a lot more punch. I've dialed the castle throttle sensitivity back on the castle esc as the traxxas tsm only has marginal effect on the castle. I fitted foam tires overnight and now it can handle full throttle launches. Hope that makes sense
Great video. Very informative. This is my personal opinion, so take it for what its worth. I would get a motor with a lower kv rating like around 4500. Then you can hit the speed you want by adding a higher tooth pinion without the motor getting to hot. Just trying to help.
I just bought a Sidewinder 4 paired with a Castle 5700kV sensored motor for my ECX Ruckus 2wd 1/10. What transmitter and receiver would you recommend because I don't think either of the stock ones are compatible?
Hi I would stiffen up the suspension. They shouldn't be dropping out that easily. I dropped one out of Ryans car but that was when I was testing it's drifting ability. It's odd it drops them. Thanks for the update though - anyone else having the axle issue?
Is the upgrade to that motor worth the money since it dose 70 out of box?? I'm new to rc cars I'm getting ready to buy that car but trying to learn what I can first
It depends with this castle setup on the 4tec 2.0 vxl you will see over 100. That said DO NOT buy this combo with the sidewinder esc. Spend the extra few bucks and buy the mamba x esc combo with this motor. On 3S on the 4tec with this motor the sidewinder esc constantly overheated and I ended up buying the mamba x esc (Which will take up to 6s as the new year will demonstrate)
Hey I have a 2wd stamp with a 21 tooth pinion and a 60 tooth spur. I'm looking for the best all around motor and esc for 2s. I can't decide what KV to get. Which one would get me up to 60 mpg?
Working on video of how to do the changes tonight. The castle link looks great but doesn't work on a mac or with any emulator, wish I'd saved my money and not bought the cable!
WISH THEY WOULD MAKE A SPEAKER SYSTEM FOR RC CARS!!!(LIKE A SOUMD SYSTEM(IM ACTUALLY IN THE WORKS OF MAKING 2 OF THEM!!!(ONES A MINI SINGLE BLUETOOTH SPEAKER(THEN WORKING ON A SHEL PORT USB/3 SPEAKER/MINI 5WATT AMP/NOW I HAVE TO FIND A MIINNIII LITTLE SUB WOOFER SO I CAN INSTALL IT ON THE (MINI SUBWOOFER BOX IM MAKING(GONNA LOOK REAL WITH CARPET ON THE BOX/LIL AMP ON THE BACK(BUT NO BLUETOOTH(SUPER MINI MP3 PLAYER;)
BlueMagic leave that with me. When I was in JJ Customs in San Jose they had a mini speaker system inc subwoofer just for RC cars. They're not open today but they are tomorrow. Or shoot them an email you can find their contact details on any of my recent redcat gen8 videos
Braking set to 100% is hard on the motor and ESC while doing speed runs , and it makes a lot of heat and drains battery power ... this is why 5th scales often switch to a non Motor based braking system .. Cheers .. from Jet Noise HUGE Motors
Agreed but smacking into a wall at 100mph or even 60 is far more painful. The stock braking setup was a joke and lke playokng with fire. 200ft to slow down? I'd reather buy new batteries or an esc than hit a curb or worse a child.. Over $120 invested in ceramic bearings alone, and the bill goes up from there, although I do aprreciate what you are sayign and where you're comign from, but the braking on speed runs is essential. 60mph is 88ft per second, 100mph? 146fps. That 500ft parkign lot is suddenly a hazard.. also I only budget on 2-4 runs before letting it all cool dowm. Tell me more about your motors, I'm always on the look otut for new things to test. This car is all setup to run on 4&6s now. New speed run body and 45mm rear foams. All I need now is sonewhere warm to run it in anger. Watch this space, big news coming soon.
they will both run on 6s but not for too many passes before heat is an issue. it's temp that kills motors NOT volts, the temp kills the magnets if too high for too long, 5700kv will run for a full pack on 4s with a fan provided gearing isn't crazy.
+Degu Man yes they quote gearing for several 2wd cars on the castle website. The main thing is to make sure you're not putting it on a really heavy car. It'll make any 2wd car very lively!
35/55 as per the stock VXL speed gearing. Overall very durable, the front bumper seems to work well when I've got it wrong. As with anything that goes this fast if you hit something it's going to be hard! But the car runs very well day to day e.g. stuff doesn't just breakdown.
I HAVE/HAVE AN HPI SPRINT2 PUT A CASTLE SW3 FULL SYSTEM IN IT AND OMG SHES SOOO FAST(AND I BUILT/GEARED IT FOR DRJFT RACING ONLY!BUUUT?,,,THE SAME DAY I PUT A(CASTLE SIDEWINDER 3 FULL CASTLE SYSTEMS IN IT AND(OMG ITS SOO FAST!!!!! BUT IM WAITING ON MY 1ST UPGRADES FOR MY(XL5 BRUSHED TRAXXAS FORD GT) I WASS GONNA DO THE CASTLE SYSTEM!!!(BUT IM FUNNY AND HAVE/LIKE TO RUN THE SAME BRAND,WITH THE SAME BRAND ETC,,,,,SOO IM PUTTING THE VXL3 SYSTEM IN IT(PLUS I MIIIIGHT DO THE (FULL BLUETOOTH SYSTEM!!
Nice video but that esc is junk I have 3 of same esc’s it’s only a 60 amp so going bigger on the pinion gear might make it cut out for a few seconds due to overloading the esc and getting to hot i have the same set up check my page out
I did mention the esc is 6s rate and the motor 3s, it's heat that kills motors not voltage so with a good fan it should do a few speed runs before you need to let it cool down, and it'll do 4s speed runs one after another
