So glad it is easier for everybody,now to get from castle Hill to central now whereas in 1999 just had one bus to go to Wynyard station and one bus from Clarence Street in the city.

You might have started filming too early when the access tunnel to the castle towers was still not open yet, right?

How can Australia afford to build such huge underground stations for so few passengers?
@tacitdionysus3220
@tacitdionysus3220 5 лет назад
You've never been on a Sydney train during peak hour have you?
@maxmullen6337
@maxmullen6337 5 лет назад
Tacit Dionysus. I’ve haven’t even been to Australia, though I hear it’s a great place. But that station does seem very deserted, even if outside the rush hour. The design is somewhat similar to Canary Wharf in London - Jubilee Line, not the Elizabeth Line. (Two stations same name. Only in England!!) You might be able to find a RU-vid video of it. Though I’ve noticed most RU-vids of the London Underground are also taken in off-peak times.

It's taken on a weekend. On a weekday during the time this was filmed trains would be coming every 4-5 mins and there'll be a lot more people. Other than that you're right, this metro goes right through suburban sprawlsville, right to the edge of the city some 40kms from the centre. The stations are spaced further apart and the trains go a little faster than an average metro (100kph vs the typical 80kph). It's more like San Francisco's BART system, which is more or less the same thing. Here's Wynyard station in the centre of Sydney during rush hour for comparison - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VrnkOfTJCIE.html London's system seems very impressive btw. The tube trains are small but the Victoria line makes up for that by making them run every 1.5 mins.

@@maxmullen6337 Yeah. I've been on several tube lines in London, including to Canary Wharf. Sydney covers a similar area to London but has only a fraction of the population density, and suburban lines and stations are therefore fewer and often further apart. See ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0cNHpWKkfs8.html for scenes of the recent first day of operation of the new metro. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-d6DApkWhSH4.html shows a typical Sydney double decker train loading during peak hour at Hornsby, a major suburb to the north, about 40 minutes from the city. In addition to the new driverless metro line, there are 9 suburban lines in the Sydney Trains (overhead wire, electric) system, covering about 800 km of route, with about 180 stations. Regional and interstate services share lines with them until they leave the outer metropolitan area. Some of the suburban lines share tracks when they enter the inner city area, creating more Tube-like frequencies through the CBD's 6 main underground stations. The suburban system is not as frequent as the Tube, with services typically about every 15 minutes on most lines (with more in the peak), but the stations are IMHO usually far better; almost all have toilets (free and usually survivable), are generally clean and well lit, and have easy access for people with disabilities. The new driverless metro is currently running at up to every 4 minutes, but has the capacity to run every 2 minutes and expand from 6 to 8 car sets.

Tacit Dionysus. Interesting. Must be nice to live in a modern city with modern infrastructure. As you know most of the London Underground was built more than hundred years ago - and looks it. Plus uncontrolled immigration; a third of a million people every year, plus very high birth rates among the immigrant population. 25 percent of babies born in Britain now are to immigrant mothers, most common boy’s name “Mohammed”. Travelling on the Tube ought to be an event in the Olympics. You need to be fit to survive, never mind get anywhere.
