I Was always told *growing up* the message 'umubi' from my Mom's Family and she SUPPORTED the statement' never CORRECTING or Challenging them. I am dark-skinned, minimal makeup, and look like my FATHER. Recently I was compared to my sister in front of her mother by a STRANGER to our likeness and she just got pissed off I laughed it off. I know I am beautiful dont need to be Light to radiate.

As a black man, I got my affirmation from ladies when I started high school. "You have a great smile", "nice legs", "cute face" etc and I'm 35 years now still struggling to accept compliments because whoever complimented me always wanted something from me, a kiss, to date or whatever. Even now, I don't think I'm beautiful.

This show is really good but it would also be good to include regular people to add to these conversations not just celebrities. Just a thought.

So valid.💯it revolved around their struggles within the entertainment industry. Not to invalidate their struggles, but the conversation is a bit out of touch with the struggles that the “regular “ black person experiences. I hope another conversation is had to give the given topic the justice it deserves (simply from the perspective of regular black individuals)

Are we not gonna also mention the fact that most African men glorify light skinned women and feel like they've arrived when dating or married with light skinned or white women. THAT'S SELF HATE TOO

eish last episode we were spoiled with depth and the breaking down of the topic was not really based on the opinions and personalization but closest to the true meaning ... i think they raised the bar so high we expectation that ... elders in the panel are somehow important not to tell us how to live but kinder know where or what the beauty is ... cos some things came with the colonization ... like beauty standards of all kind ... unfortunately minerals are not the only thing being looted ... i think physical beauty never existed for African we went with the feeling, alignment of such.... we find ourselves here ... do we go with the now or we fade back to black ... i like what lebo said ... the beauty standard that is said to be does not match what men on the ground are going for ...

I think the 1st thing we need to unlearn sisLebo is black people, black beauty etc. We need to call ourselves for who we are, which is African and nothing else

"Performative Masculinity!" 🤣🤣🤣 yesses thank you Samkelo for articulating this behavior... I have been trying to explain to certain brothers the "offramp" where we lose each other in our interactions...

Funny cause at the age of 43 I’m growing my hair in it’s natural form & loving it. Yes people judge & view me as weird regardless of being light skinned. The conditioning of our people is deep & sad. Black peoples hair is beautiful esp in it’s natural form ❤️.

I would only change the fact that as beautiful in our Africanness as we are, we also suffer the most. It can be sad to be African, we need more previlage too. Thamks guys for the wonderful show

This episode had so much potential but the panelists/guests weren't really engaging with the topic they instead chose to tell their personal stories and did not expound on what they where saying and including everyone else.

@Castle Milk Stout: the age diversity of S4 episode 1 with Stogie and the other guests helped balance the range of opinions and life experiences. The content themes are spot on🎉 please expand the diversity of guests to be more representative of "black/African" 🙏🏾

So true. Their attempt to align the basis of black beauty to their experiences within the entertainment industry was off putting. It is totally out of touch with what the “regular” black person experiences. Not to invalidate their opinions, but they did not do justice in breaking down the essence of what it means to be black and more especially the true beauty in blackness.

There's nothing like "black beauty" we were never black in the first place, get out of the colonial mindset

@BantuConnrct yes there's is something called black beauty. We re black, we are black people or Africans but that all means black. There's nothing wrong with being a black person, embracing your natural beauty that includes your complexion, your body shape etc
