I know Tzar was amazing, and could have been so much more, but I've never seen a more mesmerizing fireball than Castle Bravo's. When that big "SHRIMP" (joke, name of the device, etc,) detonated, expanded that fast, got dark and mottled for a split second, then gets hotter, and brighter, than Hell itself, as the shockwave detaches and expands outwards at incredible speeds, and finally, as the majestic fireball rises still glowing brightly from all that x-ray heating, the majestic vapor dome, and rings, that form from pressure changes and humidity, then gradually dissipate, as well as the ice crystal cloud caps that slowly form, and slide and slink over the surface of the fireball, as it rises into cooler air. If only I could travel through time, I'd love to be on one of the observation vessels, with a pair of filter goggles, and witness that incredible show of energy.
LOL When they mistook the LOBSTER as the SHRIMP 🤣🤣 I for one would prefer to be on one of the observing planes so I could get a panoramic view of the entire show!
AFAIK they went picture to picture back in the day for the restoration effort and digitizing and put it all together again. That was back when scanners for analog film were measured in seconds per frame and not frames per second ;) Do absolutely get all five documentaries they made, they are well made and very interesting.
Hey Peter, not sure if you read these comments or not, but would love to know if you're working on restoring any more footage....maybe another movie? As a record of this frighteningly ingenious period in history, the 3x movies are astounding (have them all on DVD!). I'm constantly amazed that the power of these weapons, the scientific & engineering effort that went into developing them and their destructive capabilities seem to have been largely forgotten from our collective memories. This is history that should be remembered.....for lots of reasons!

you are correct. I took "cinematic liberty" with the sequence while editing. Its really a culmination of the Castle Series of which Bravo was the largest. The bulk of the bomb footage IS Bravo from 35mm color negative, the others (mostly ROMEO) are from 16mm.

Do you tie your own shoes before leaving the house in the morning or does mommy have to do that for you too? you have to use THE INSTANTANEOUS POWER output of Tsar to do the comparison accurately, DUH. It was producing 5 yottawatts at the peak of fission output.
@@Muonium1 I divided the "it's 1trillion times more powerful than a 1megaton bomb" by 50, which is close to the power of the tsar Bomb, then made that a percentage....
@@M4XC4V413R4 There is some footage that is allegedly of Tsar Bomba but they're actually from RDS-37, another Soviet nuclear test. There are still shots of the detonation on RU-vid though.
