It's time for part two: Castles of the Middle Ages. Today again the Bytów Castle, which in my opinion is an underrated Crusader fortress that is worth mentioning. The Middle Ages were coming to an end, as was the independent existence of the Knights of the Cross in the north of our present-day country. It was coming to an end, but the castle was still important for the Teutonic Knights themselves, the Kingdom of Poland and, above all, the noble Griffin family from Western Pomerania.
In this part, we will look at the perimeter walls of the stronghold, where I will mention the then masterpiece of the Order, i.e. gun towers. I will also tell you a little more about the functions they performed then, which highlights the organizational genius of the Order at the time of its peak power. Once again you will hear about toilets, which at that time were not at all obvious to most people living at that time. Another proof of how Roman civilization once influenced the development of Europe and our country.
The House of Righteousness is the finale of this story, i.e. the nest of the local knights of the Cross and the Sword. We will get acquainted again with the refectory, the dormitory and the rooms that serve specific functions in this prosecutor's castle. Just Malbork on a smaller scale and slightly different. I will also tell you a little about the further history of the Castle, up to the times of the Gryfit family. This is an important chapter in the history of the Bytów fortress, because this noble family shaped its history in the times after the Teutonic Knights.
