This is the second part of the story about the Malbork Castle in the Middle Ages Castles series. The castle is so huge that I decided to tell about it in parts. Today we will look at what the High Castle looked like, which still stands today almost in the same form as the Teutonic Knights built it in the 14th century. However, this is not the most interesting thing in my opinion. In the middle of the courtyard of the High Castle there is an old well topped with a sculpture of a Pelican. This symbol played a great importance in the Teutonic state for the crusaders of German origin. Also here, Malbork Castle has wonderful old cloisters and entrance portals.
We will also see a very important church here, where monks gathered. The thing about the Teutonic Knights and their Castles is that religion and Gothic art had great expression among them, and here in Malbork the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a clear example of this. Although largely destroyed, we can still find remnants of a bygone era and an amazing atmosphere from the past.
Another thing is the Danzig and I will tell you briefly what it was and is.
Finally, there will be more Gothic rooms. They will give us evidence of the beautiful art of those times, even on the ceilings, because these castles have star-shaped ribbed vaults. Every room is filled with them, which was intended to remind the brave Crusaders of the Holy Land in Jerusalem itself.
