took me 30 years to beat the original Dracula. with save states on the WII U VC. I beat Simons Quest in 8 hours.

I just put it on my Switch's Wishlist, but I'll wait to see if it ever comes down in price. I already own these games a few times over, so I don't need this right away. They should've ditched the GB games, and added a few GBA games, along with SOTN. Overall, not a bad collection, I just don't need it right away.

You can use A to jump and X to whip. So it’s fine. But I agree they should still allow button config.

Konami may be.... Pretty down in these days, but the collection looks pretty. Still, it would be cool to see Rondo of Blood there. And i have this wish to see a Metroidvania collection, going from Symphony of the Night to Order of Eclessia.

Hey RGT did you try playing it with the NES switch controllers? I did and the controls were the same as the original NES versions.

I can live without Symphony of the Night, Super Castlevania 4 is my favorite, I never liked the RPG aspects that were thrown in later on.

Im actually glad they didn't have SoTN since it is a complete different Castlevania.

Did anyone else notice on the very last page of the Collection Book at the end? It references the Copyrights of PlayStation, PS2, Game Boy Advance, etc; systems that have Castlevania games NOT in this Collection. Updates? DLC? Dunno, but it's interesting.

For another collection of this, Volume 2 would have Rondo of Blood and all of the Metroidvania games from PS1, GBA and DS.

Good to see this was handled better than the butchered Arcade Classics Anniversary Collection, but there are still some baffling omissions. Like why didn't Konami include the Game Boy Color versions of The Adventure and Belmont's Revenge or at least have them as an extra color filter option? These versions were properly colored in and look much better than the original Game Boy versions with the included color filter. And where is original MSX version of Vampire Killer, it is after all a celebration of the origins of the series. It would've been a much more fitting inclusion than Kid Dracula and would've made it an instant buy for me.

My small complaint might've been the aspect ratio choices... the default ones for literally every game besides the GB ones aren't my recommended ones, I typically go for the 4:3 Scanlines. Other than that, awesome. I should mention that the game SAVES your ratios when you exit out of a game to go to another one, etc, unlike the Arcade classics collection.

Yet another collection that I wont be buying for at least a year because I'm like 90% sure Japan will get a release of it on cart.

I'm relatively sure that RGT85 is the lead singer from The Counting Crows. Obviously, he had to lose the dreads as they were no longer in style. Not sure why he turned to RU-vid when his music career seemed to be pretty solid. Oh yeah...Castlevania is awesome.

1 thru 3, the b being whip and A jump is definatly something u gotta get used to but its bc the NES was whip B on leftand jump A on right. Obv they werent at a diagonal lineup and were horizontally next to one another, but they mimicked nes controls and those games didnt have built in custom sets so it stuck. Going from 4 or BL my opinion the best here, to 1 or 3 is tricky.

It feels weird to see literally see "Nintendo" on my PS4. The Disne y Afternoon Collection had all Nintendo references removed from the gallery but Castlevania has them all. Weird times. PS4 also has Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night.

Physical copy then I'll buy

I love that Konami added the JP versions of these Castlevania games. The Japanese version of Dracula’s Curse is the definitive way to play that game imo. It’s slightly less brutal on difficulty, Grant has a projectile weapon now, & the extra sound chip makes an already amazing soundtrack even better. My only complaint is I wish they had added a convenient rewind feature, like almost all classic game collections have these days.

My first videogame (Christmas 1990) was Castlevania. To this day that's the game that holds the dearest place in my heart and I am so excited to pick this collection up. The only 2 games here I'm unfamiliar with are Belmont's Revenge and (of course) Kid Dracula. It looks like an amazing collection though and having classic Castlevania at my finger tips on PS4 is soooooo good! Great video as always Shawn! Here's to Bloodstained Ritual of the Night next month eh? 👌🎮

Thanks for the review! Aren't those controls the same as the NES Switch Online game? I assume it's so people can decide if they want to use B and A or X and A. I thought I heard you say you want to use A for the whip, but that would be backwards in either configuration, no?

I hope Castlevania 64 or Legacy of Darkness gets released. That game gets a ton of very undeserved hate and needless to say, is very underrated.

You can change the controller layout for all games in the Castlevania Collection. Press L1 during game play. Go to Controls and map them as you wish.

Is this digital only? I looked at GameStop, Best Buy and other retailers for a physical copy and nobody had it.

This game is exactly what I wanted minus the Castlevania Legends Game Boy game. Next Volume most likely.

this is great for the new guys and i can see what konami is doing, but for me, only bloodlines is interesting, but then again, we are getting on the sega mini console.....anw, will wait for a price drop and buy it just for bloodlines on the go....

I think they didn't put Symphony or Rondo Since those games have some re releases under their belt already Plus it would take a bit more effort to port or emulate rondo or symphony

Huge omission: they did not include the MSX2 Vampire Killer. This collection is meant to represent the History of Castlevania during the 80s and early 90s. To not include Vampire Killer is to rewrite this history and is against the notion of preservation. At least, this is my view ;)

Im probably the only person alive who legitimately wants a complete remake, like they did with spyro, of castlevania 64, or castlevania legacy of darkness. Castlevania 64 was my first castlevania game so I know my desire is purely fueled by my nostalgia but I think if it was completely remade and modernized it would be awesome.

With the Contra games also coming to the Switch I would really want the Suikoden series get a release as well.

Would've been nice of Konami to have released the Wii Ware version of Castlevania Adventure instead of the Gameboy version, but I guess you can't win them all.

That was not actually a swastika in Kid Dracula, it is a good luck charm. It's a religious symbol. The Nazi's took that symbol, turned it 90 degrees, and the swastika was born. The one in Kid Dracula is not turned, so it is the good luck charm. However, most people don't know about this important little difference, and that's no doubt why they removed it from the game in this collection. One of the dungeon maps in Zelda 1 has that symbol too, and Nintendo surprisingly didn't change it for it's western release.

The lack of Rondo of Blood and Adventure Rebirth is disappointing. Still, this is a pretty swell collection.

Honestly stating there's ten Contra games in there isn't accurate. Castlevania Anniversary Collection actually had eight Castlevania games. It's still a great compilation despite a few issues.

This looks cool. A physical release would be nice, but not a deal breaker. A second one with some of the GBA games or the Adventure remake on Wiiware would be awesome

What a horrible night to have no money

I don't have the game yet, but does this have the same errors from the Steam release (yeah there was a steam release. you didn't). from what you've shown though, the switch version seems way more optimized than the steam version.

I really don't see a problem with the buttons because they are exactly the way they were in the original consoles. I admit that when I started playing the first Castlevania, my intuition told me to jump with B and whip with Y, but then I saw that the disposition forced us to play just like the old NES: jump with A and whip with B. For the ones who never played the original it might seem odd but even after such a long time I felt comfortable playing like this. I just didn't use Y or X anymore, although the combination A and X could be useful as an alternative to Y and B. But of course: since you decided to release an anniversary collection of one the most beloved and regarded franchises ever, why not offer some button configuration options? It doesn't make sense to me. For the ones who are on the fence: if you like old school 2d platforming and like some challenge, just go for it. It's SO worth your money

That ghost had a manji symbol, not a swastika. It's a lucky charm. It is also looks different than Swastika, but people have hard time recognizing those usually.

Already have castlevania 1, 2, and 4 on my NES and SNES classics. Wish they would've put castlevania 3 instead of 2 on the nes Classic. Are the rest of the games worth the money for the collection?

I’m on the fence about this one.. I’m not OVERLY upset about Bloodlines but SOTN being absent is almost a CRIME! Having said that Konami adding C3 for free is a pretty enticing deal.

I’m so glad that it didn’t have that Dracula X for Super NES: The Bootleg version of Rondo of Blood.

They need to do a collection with just the GBA games and SOTN Those are my favorites. I would love to play the GBA games in HD on a big screen.
