After three months, what do I think of these Caswell Lisbon boots that made such a big splash on launch? And how do they compare to Grant Stone’s Edward Boot in Waxy Tobacco?

Who Am I?
I am a Management Consultant in real life but in my Bootlosophy channel, I make videos about boots and all things boot related. This channel posts reviews of boots, unboxing of new boots, and follow-up reviews, and in doing so, may explore the philosophy of the brands from time to time!
I have owned boots for decades, but to be honest I have owned them as functional pieces of footwear. It wasn't until early 2020 when COVID struck that I started online shopping for boots to an obsessive degree. I love the aesthetic of boots and I love finding out more about how they are made. I now own an insane number of boots, and one day I may sell some of them (just not right now).

Late comment, but I just pulled the trigger on this exact boot in what I think was his last 10.5. In large part, your review plus the advice that Kevin himself offered regarding sizing convinced me to pull the trigger. Thank you for continuing to bring content like this about smaller, more boutique type brands. Without it, I would have never learned of this new maker.

Thank you for all of these reviews. As a die hard redwing fan, that’s all I’ve really known. These videos are so helpful when investigating other brands. Much appreciated sir!

As usual my friend, excellent review. We are living very exciting moments with all these new boot making entrepreneurship! Although my wife does not share much my enthisiasm due to obscene amount of money I spend on boots 🫣🤣... Just kidding, she loves my passion (just in case she is reading this). Taike, it would be great to hear your take on different kinds of suede and rough out leathers. I've seen other youtubers disregarding suede, but when I see the QC such as the Caswell / CF Stead suede, I just wonder it is unfair to say that it is a poor or bad material. Cheers mate!

Great overview; new to the boot game so seeing comparisons with these to Grant Stone, Thursday, Beckett Simonon etc. is great. You got a new sub!

Nice review, I note they're offering different widths in their current GMTO - I hope that trickles down to their stock models. You're right that we're spoiled for choice by so many small manufacturers at the moment, let's hope the market can support them (thought I think you're doing a good job single handed! 👊)

I really like the contrasting white welt stitching of the Caswell boots over the Grantstones. It’s a nice touch.

I had a feeling I would not like the Wayne last with regards to the width and I think you've confirmed that for me. Caswell has very good descriptions of their last shapes and sizing on the website, organized from sleek/narrow to the more roomy and generous fitting. My Carver II's are on the Harris last and in an E width so they are plenty roomy in the toes, at least once I figured out that I should not tighten up the bottom two eyelets when putting them on since they are lace-to-toe, but they do seem a little loose in the mid foot then. I'm thinking about ordering some of their try-on boots to see if I can get away with a D width or half size down and keeping my eye on models that are built on the roomier Harris, Porter or Morris lasts.

Thanks for getting back to these. I am a bit wary of the last for these as it seems like it could be a bit narrow for me.

Got my Caswell Lisbon boots (third pair) in snuff waxy commander recently, and I can't stop wearing them! Today was perfect weather for them - wind and rain in the PNW.

Wore these today pruning our crabapple trees in light drizzle. It was so easy washing apple mush from the ridgeway-type soles afterwards. I just love these boots, and the functionality of the waxy commander leather!

Just a heads up in case you don't know, that "roughout" is not traditionally used in European boots or tanneries to describe full grain reversed leathers and they tend to still be referred to as "suede". CF Stead produce "Janus suede " which is their roughout and Zonta tannery in Italy produces "Castorino suede" . These are the two I know but suspect there are others.

Good point!

Actually they call it reverse, (when is a full grain hide but tend to be use on the reverse side) and if it is waxed they use waxed reverse

the pinky toe squeeze is moderately noticable to me and wearing dress socks helps to ease it. My main discomfort is the insole. It feels like you're standing on a piece of wood. I tried to put an insole in there and although it make the fit tighter, the plantar feel is a little better. Will see how I decide to wear it in the longrun. Been only wearing it in the house so far. I really like the look of this boot, but for me it would be a half-day wear choice rather than a full day

That’s how each person’s feet are different! To me the insole arch support is 100%
