Well it didn't go as planned.. hacked my first side. Couldn't get into position on my right side. So I tried spilling on the opposite side of the wheels, and that wasn't the same outcome. Took two passes and had way to much material. Other side of the road I.got the bright idea to travel the opposite direction and try my blade position on the left side.. made a huge difference. 1 pass, more control, and a smoother cut. I have another road to cut as soon as the mower gets there.. my other issue is even cut grass needs the cuttings raked off the edge, and we don't have an implement for that.. so hopefully we can borrow one from a farmer before I get into the next one. Thanks so much for your video. It helped a million

We do it similarily where I live but we often have a wheel loader with a vibrator bucket that sifts through the material to remove most of the vegetation. Well done!

I noticed that this road has alot of washboard so I usually cut the washboard out before pulling shoulders as this can add to the problem with all this material being placed on the road even when laid in lifts ! ( from Canada )

I didn’t show it in the video but I cut the road all the way out mixing all the loose gravel in with the material from the shoulders that way I was getting a good mix road went to crap over weekend dry when I did it 2 inches of slow rain really made a mess of it nothing you can do though

Well, I have this first pull coming up, they sent the mower out today to cut the 3ft grass. They were supposed to hold on gravel until after a couple weeks of breaking it down, but Friday the trucking company put 200ypm down anyhow. So thats got me worried. We don't have a disker, but my 150awd has a sod mulcher on front and a packer on back... I assume I'll need to peel the gravel to one side before I can start, and my shoulder is about 3ft wide and 10 inches tall, so I assume it's going to be a sh!t show for my first attempt. I've pulled a bit in to fill major potholes, but this will be fun..

Did you retrieve the should with the disc before the shoulder cut?
@graderman140m
@graderman140m 4 месяца назад
Yes I disc the edges with my retriever disc before I pull the edges in generally like to have it disc a couple weeks before I start pulling the edges in.

What causes all that washboarding in the crown?
@graderman140m
@graderman140m 4 месяца назад
Lot of it is poor surfacing gravel and the way people drive.

How many miles can you blade in an 8 hour day?
@graderman140m
@graderman140m 2 года назад
Well that’s a hard question to answer do to so many variables but I get around 17 and a half miles in a 8 hour day that cutting washboards out and dressing up intersections obviously that’s 35 miles both ways I get 20 miles in a 11 hour day that’s 40 miles both ways and that’s averaging a speed of 5 mph

@@graderman140m I have a 150 awd up in Manitoba, I have a secondary ditch issue I'm pulling next week. I've been grading for 9 years, and I've attempted smaller pulls, but I'm definitely nervous. I'm happy to see your video. Thanks

Can you do video of you grading a wide road?
@graderman140m
@graderman140m 2 года назад
I can but how wide of a road are you talking about my max road width is 24ft wide and in my opinion there no reason for a road to be any wider then that.

@@graderman140m some off my roads are 14ft wide, almost have to set my blade straight to get it passed the crown..if you have any tips that would be awesome! Love the videos! Very informative.

Sometimes it's hard to watch. Should have taken care of the washboard road surface first before you pulled the shoulders in. You end up with loose material covering the washboard, first rain they will resurface.
