Why cant we just directly use - 5A + 5B = cp. Takes very little time to solve. Or am i doing it in the wromg way?

Hey could you explain how you got 1.1 in the denominator when it asked for 10% profit?

Since the highest possible cost was asked, I applied Alligation using 1:1 ratio and I got 20 as the cost of Paint B. Was I correct in assuming 1:1?

You can arrive at this conclusion using AM-GM inequality property. On using Alligation, Value of paint B came out to be (24x + 16y)/(x+y) where x is Quantity of B and y is quantity of A. This can be further written as 16 + 8x/(x+y). To maximize this, (x+y) has to be minimum. This is possible when x = y.
