Music to my ears.💯 I haven’t rode in a Pete with a 6nz Cat since 2013 in my grandpa’s truck. To bad he sold it in 2015

Probably kicking himself in the ass now. I sold my brand new pete 389 pride and class and went back with an 87 pete 379 with a hoped up n14 Cummins. I run several trucks and they all have elog but i personally refuse to run under the damn things😁

Sounds like something I would do. My grandpa had to sell it because he went blind and couldn’t drive no more. I know the owner of the truck now and he hasn’t put it to work since he bought it and it just sits in his driveway. Sad to see a great running truck sit for years

@@martin1234512345 Emissions trucks are doing way better than before. I am a CAT guy. But the new stuff from Cummins is doing marvelous. The new TC motor from Volvo has been out for 5 years now. It may end up the best of the bunch. The DD15 for a emissions motor has always done pretty descent. They have all but eliminated the 7th injector non sense. And some of the other problems with emissions. Theres a guy on Facebook. Joel Morrow of Ploger transportation. Doing these Downsped Super Overdrive setups with Macks and Volvo's. 10+mpg on flat ground. 8's in the mountains and the trucks can pull. I'm sitting in one now. Running food grade tanks. I owned a stump pulling W900L 550hp 6NZ Cat. 18 spd 3.36RAR on big rubber. I'd pull the hard side of SR58 out of Bakersfield Ca. At 38mph loaded reefer 78k. I'm in a Volvo VNL 740 pulling tanker with Volvo VNL 740 with the D13 455TC. 13 speed I-shift with crawlers. 2.26 RAR

@@DutchK75 - well said, love all the information you provides and I read it well, totally understand and agree with what you’re saying, Cummins X15’s are doing well too, but personally my C15 cat has been the best engine I’ve ever owned, never really had an issue and it’s done almost 1 million Kilometres. Can’t translate into Miles right now. But it’s still going strong and I love the good old sound it makes when it screams.

3406 and 6nz has a different block C15 and 6nz has the same block but software setup different 6nz is a better setup than a C15 but it doesn't take much to get the C15 to run like the 6nz there basically the same engine like I said mostly software is the biggest difference
@AUSSIEGIZMO76
@AUSSIEGIZMO76 4 года назад
A 6NZ is a C15. The ‘6nz’ is just a serial number prefix. However, granted, the different prefixes identify the engines and their slightly different internal specs throughout the life of production.

6nz and mbn are the c-15 motors they are still a 14.6L like the 3406e. 6nz is the closest to 3406e with better front and rear structure sealing being the biggest advantage. Mbn was cats 1st attempt at emissions. From then on the C15 bxs-sdp where 15.2L accert motors with a lot of hard part as well as ecm differences from the 3406e and 6nz

I'm a motorcycle and car guy, big trucks never really did anything for me. pickup trucks neither. And honestly I really despise the smell of diesel exhaust, it lingers for a long time and is super overwhelming. That being said, I occasionally see a big rig (like the ones in this video) that is noticeably customized. Not necessarily a flashy paint job and lights and stuff, but more of a nice paint job, big chrome stacks, chrome wheels, and lots of chrome trim, that sort of thing. It's starting to grow on me a bit. I definitely respect the money and love that goes into these trucks. I'd love the chance some day to drive or ride in one. Anyone have any reccommendations for good sounding truck engines? I don't know the trucker lingo for all the different types of engines so I don't know what I am hearing on the road. I can tell a mustang and a camaro apart with my eyes closed, but big rigs all sound similar.

What is the point of a vastly extended shifter like in the second clip? Seems counter productive to me
@straightpipediesel
@straightpipediesel 2 года назад
It also allows more precision and feel to the shifts. Trucks are the opposite of ricers because they have non-synchromesh gearboxes, you can't jam them into gear with a short throw shifter, like a sports car. It also lets you use less force due to the leverage, something which is important when you're driving 11 hours per day.
@Romuls753
@Romuls753 2 года назад
@@straightpipediesel all that extra length doesn't really matter if your arm is only so long and can't reach the top to exploit the extra leverage. I know these transmissions aren't synchronized, something Europe has over us
@straightpipediesel
@straightpipediesel 2 года назад
@@Romuls753 Certainly many of them are there for looks. You don't need to use the extra leverage all the time. As certain gears wear, you'll find that you need more force during the shift, as you find that, you start moving your hand up to the top for leverage. European trucks are much weaker because in most countries they have an 80 km/h (49 MPH) speed limit on highways, at most it's 90 km/h by EU law. The speed limits can be as low as 40 MPH for situations like undivided roads. Plus you have more city driving than in the US. As a result, new European trucks are generally automatic/AMT these days.
