Yes. That’s exactly why I see happening. Everyone immediately tries to touch her when she shows any sign of comfort, and that’s what sets her off. I always say you gotta let cats come to you. They really are the bosses lol
@@gazzy9136 if you lack the empathy to speak to an animal in a way they understand then you shouldn’t have animals. If you have a horse, you should learn how they communicate and so on. Cats don’t speak human as well but they express emotions and love every bit as much. Dogs are just smarter and can speak human better and therefore even the dumb humans understand them. We call them dog people. When I say speak human, I mean read our body language and facial expressions and mirror them to some degree. Cats don’t have the wide range of expressions dogs do but they slow blink and that is them sitting there saying “I love you” or they rub on you or choose to be near you. These are all ways of saying I love you. Most humans don’t understand this and just think the cat is being a cat

I'm cranky when I feel fat. I'm sorry she is mean. My cat, Maybebaby, gets an attitude every now and then. She's a rescue and I've had her for about 6 months after she lived in a drop ceiling for 5 years until the owner died. I can pet her but not handle her. U can read her face when she wants to b left alone. Baby was her name but went to Maybebaby because maybe she's friendly and maybe she's not. ❤❤. Good luck. I'd get a second opinion on her health. Attica looks like Maybebaby.
I agree see I have a cat that anyone else would have probably abandoned already her only issue is she can't be potty trained she grew up in a van before I rescued her and I tried to litter train her and she does use a litter box but every so often she does decide the litter box is wherever she decides it is but she's my baby and I wouldn't trade her for the world so what she requires a little extra care that's fine with me
Shes cranky because she's overweight. I've experienced this with a my cat with sudden weight gain with a change in low quality food. He gained weight suddenly and was mean! I switched him back to the normal better quality food and his weight went back to normal and a happy kitty again! Good luck with your cat
It puts so much pressure on their joints and internal organs at that weight that it's pretty much constant pain 😢 You're totally right to think her being cranky is because she's overweight!
Its so important not to give up on cats like this. One of my boys is a former stray with anxiety. In the beginning he did not like me at all. I gave him space and just started living my life normally, interracting with my other cats normally and awknowledging him with no physical contact. After a while he would want to be pet like the other cats. He wanted to play with me like the other cats. Finally he wants to sleep next to me. It did take 2 years to build trust and he does still have anxiety (but way milder). I have anxiety myself so i understand that i cant expect him to act like other cats, but i do get verry happy to see him more comfortable. Hes so worth it in the end. Good on you guys for not giving up on her❤️
We had a cat like that, neighborhood stray that was let in out of the rain. She was a super anxious tuxedo cat, she would hide in my parent's bedroom when the front door was opened, it would take months of just seeing someone before she would even sit in the same room as them. She was a sweetheart tho.
@@CassandraMiyuki they usually are. Anxious cats are often the most gratefull cats. Mine does still like being outside, but not for long periods of time. If it starts raining, he hides in the garage until i come find him. If i dont let him out he gets upset, he likes to patrol arround our garden to make sure no strays come. (When strays come i foster them in a spare room until i find a home for them, wich he hates)
i had a girl tabby, looked EXACTLY like that...coat, size all of it, her named was Bandit. she was the neighborhood Don boss. all the other cats and dogs were afraid of her...but she was the sweetest smushiest baby ever.
I think it depends on what diet she might have, but having extra weight can cause arthritis due to the amount of strain on the bones. So picking her up might also be having a negative effect when they all interact.
As someone who has rescued over 50 street cats, and rehomed them (usually in my home) I can give you one piece of amazing advice when it comes to socializing a not very social cat. When you are interacting with the cat you have to end the interaction on a good note. So maybe that’s just one good pet or scratch. You don’t want the cat to react in anger, you want to always leave them wanting more. So you have to pull away even when it’s going good. Especially when it’s going good, so they remember that the interaction with you is good. If you do this for a while the cat will have less and less outbursts and eventually you will be able to to do long and longer interactions. Always leave them wanting more. Leave them with a good feeling. It’s soooooo important! You can totally change a healthy cats temperament.
My cat and I have staring contests 😂. He unfortunately also forgets I am his human and not his girlfriend. He was a rescue after his mom was hit by a car shortly after birth. I have been told he imprinted me? Which is honestly still confusing since he has tried being frisky with an arm or leg when I am asleep.😅 thankfully (I guess) he went to being frisky with his favorite fish-cat toy. Though I do have to watch him when he is kneading my blanket. Any advice?
I am going to respectfully disagree with your last sentence because I think your advice is excellent. In theory, temperament can't be changed even a little bit and definitely can't be changed totally. Temperament is considered the inborn, largely genetic portion of personality. The boundaries of temperament can be stretched a little, but not really changed. What you have described is a really good behavioral intervention where you are very careful to avoid evoking a behavior that neither you nor the cat really wants. Whatever is causing the aggression - probably anxiety - you don't want to leave the cat scared or angry because they will accurately associate that emotion with you. If you're careful, things will definitely get better over time. It's just hard to be careful because it's almost impossible for a human to stop petting a cat who is liking it. I have a cat like this myself and I've had to learn that I can pet him 3 or 4 times and then I need to stop because he'll get overstimulated and bite me. When he bites me, I yelp, which startles him, so he accidentally claws me, which starts to set up that really bad cycle. I've also learned that if I wait until he goes to sleep, I can pet him 7 or 8 times before he gets spicy, so I just need to be patient. The reason I've taken so much time to disagree about what you said about changing temperament is just because it's so important to know who your cat (or dog or spouse) fundamentally is. As soon as I use the word theory, people's eyes glaze over and someone almost always says "but it's just a theory." Or they point out the difference between theory and practice. Which isn't wrong exactly, but misses the point of how helpful it is to have a good theory. Trauma isn't personality, but it definitely has a huge impact on personality. You can't turn a true intovert into an extravert, but you can definitely try to set things up so that the introvert feels less uncomfortable and has more fun at a party. It's hard to separate these threads, but I really believe that understanding the distinction is helpful and respectful. This is a long post to say that I agree with 99%of what you said, but I thought you might find this perspective useful.
I'm also surprised they're holding her so often? if you cannot even have a good interaction with her just passing by, WHY on earth are you holding her, where she'll feel vulnerable and have more reason to lash out?
if a vet has deemed her healthy, then her weight is fine. one of my cats is on the chunkier side, but every vet visit, they confirm she’s healthy and her weight isn’t a problem. just like humans, some cats are just naturally chubbier than others.

@@sh4rkb4itthat’s… not how it works. Most veterinarians create SOAP notes, or medical records that are detailed about every part of the animals body, from head to tail. Each part is noted and they make a “problem” list, which 90% of pets have at least some form of dental disease, skin issue, or you guessed it, obesity. It doesn’t mean the animal is necessarily unhealthy… but it’s still a problem. And it usually involves a discussion about why it may become even more of a problem down the line. So yes, while an animal can get a “clean bill of health” there is ALWAYS that problem list. It’s the veterinarians job to inform them of what is going on with their pet and how to prevent complications, even if it’s not the primary cause for concern at that time. It’s preventative healthcare, just like human healthcare.

Yeah shocked they said that. As a vet tech I know our vet would be putting her on a diet instantly. She's at a huge risk of being prediabetic of she isn't already there. Plus the pain it causes their limbs and what it can do to her kidneys is she does become diabetic. That's not a little chunky that's easily over 15 lbs of extra weight.
Sadly it's a fact thst in America many people don't even realise that beeing obese is an illness. I don't say every obese Person has to drop to a perfekt bmi. Everyone should live like they want to and if an obese person likes themselfes how they are, who am I to tell them otherwise? They should be happy. But I think they also should gain up to the fact that beeing obese IS not healthy and an illness and a breeding ground for more illnesses like diabetes, heart problems, etc. And they should have to learn to live with the fact that people will call them ill. Because they are. There is a reason why obese people have a lower than average lifespan. But well, in America it probably is the average lifespan. People should realise that there is a reason why the bmi exists and there is under-, "normal" and overweight. Because both under- and overweight are not healthy if you suffer from it for a longer period.. But hey.. I see it the pragmatical way: we have an overpopulation problem, the more people stay obese and live unhealthy, the sooner more people will clear the earth and maybe the overpopulation problem solves itself.. 🤷🏾♂️
So yall just missed the part where he said “but she’s a little chunky” cheekily? When they said she was healthy it means she wasn’t suffering from anything that was making her overweight (like diabetes), she’s just fat- which is easier to fix than if she had a condition.

Seriously my guy is 18 and you’re only allowed to give him chinny scritches because his hips hurt! Doesn’t stop him from bringing me 3 mice and a bird a day tho … he’s a big boy 😂 but not fat just strong and active.

Yep 100% I healthy diet. She is probably in pain from all the extra weight. They need to be invested in more enrichment and play and stop free feeding.

Uncle Andrew is the best uncle ever! It's easy to give up on a hostile animal, it's a true animal lover that hangs in there with patience and love. Also, please consider that she may have painful joints because she is just too heavy. It's not easy, but Attica has to lose a bit of weight. My daughter's partner had a very spicy cat. It took me an entire year to get her to come on my lap and let me pet her. This happened on Christmas and by that February, she passed. I still miss Pepper,and that was about six years ago, sigh.
One rule of thumb is not approach a cat, let them come to you. My son actually has a stray that he has trained. He went to the shelter and sat with her and 3 other cats. She came to him, all while fending off the other 3 cat’s. Animals know if someone is going to be mean and they stay away. He brought her home and released her back to being a stray, she chose us as her forever family. Needless to say we have had her now for 6 years. Always be kind to all living things.
That’s it! 😂 She knows that they’ll give her treats to calm her down and her spicy attitude is just part of her strategy to get as many treats as possible. She’s brilliant!

I have always said if you ignore a cat, they will come searching for your attention. It’s always on their terms sitting on the ground and forcing yourself on a cat just does not work.
This must be why my cats love me. I can watch 3 episodes of a show in a row on Netflix and not know what’s going on around me. Next thing I know I have 3 of the 4 of my cats laying on me. Lol.
I dare you to tell that to her face! Cats aren't people, she's not trying to look good for bikini season. Putting an animal, especially a stray or rescue, on a diet just freaks them out. They might live longer if thinner but it will be an anxious and tedious life where the brain is constantly on edge bc it doesn't have enough spare calories to relax. I have helped so many people with anxious food aggressive cats by telling them it's okay if their cat is chonky. What's important is keeping them indoors active and the food quality high. Wet food at least once a day.

No one’s putting the cat in any bikinis… there’s something called a healthy form. When your cat is so round that it can roll like a ball, we have a problem. I think this happens more often than people know I have a cat who is a little chunky, but doesn’t like nobody but me. I’m the only one who can she never gets with anybody but I get to pet her. She does not want anybody to pick her up or pet her in a loving manner. I think they’re just as picky with people as they are with their food.
The cat needs a section of the apartment that is hers alone. Since he comes over so often it takes away from her feeling safe. If you'd watch Flatbush Cats you'll get an idea of how to slowly let her get comfortable with you. Let her have whatever space she needs.Don't force her to have to be physical with you. Let her choose to.
I was just thinking the exact same thing. My mom had a torty for 21yrs that hated everyone. Years later she got a tiny rescue tort for my daughter, kitten stage she liked to play with us, n was very loving. Then Tuesday turned 1yr and personality switch. History repeated n Tuesday made it very clear her true love was my Mom!
there’s a good amount of cats that don’t like to be touched first and the best way to bond with them is to sit in a room with them and ignore them. well until they come up to you and indicate touch first

My cat I’ve raised since he was 2weeks old is a feisty boy. When I first found out I was pregnant he was like this towards me, even attacked me. I was confused on why he would be acting so weird towards me & I did some reading & even called a vet & they told me he was jealous of the baby since he has always been my baby. My dad was furious & said to get rid of him but I couldn’t. He really is my baby & always will be. Now I’m further along into the pregnancy & all he does is lick my belly & cuddle me. Cats are unpredictable. Just because you have a slight bump in the road doesn’t mean to give up on them. 🥰🥰

We had a cat that was always super quick to anger like that when she was obese. Once we got her weight down, she calmed down and actually accepted affection. Obese animal are in pain whether we want to acknowledge it or not, and I personally wouldn’t want someone picking me up and touching me if I was in pain
I have a big garden and work away and when I got back, there was a cat that moved in. It took the cat 3 years to just brush past me, another year before I could stroke her. Tried to catch her to have her sterilised, but too crafty. When I came back from my trip I realised why she didnt want to be caught, there were 3 kittens under the outhouse, they were at the stage where milk was no longer sufficient, so she did something brave and marched them into my house one morning and dropped them off in a room and then she allowed me to help care for them. Its 3 years later and they all live here, even the stray father came and lived here, all fixed, happy and still a bit wild, but thats cats, it takes time. Lots of time and patience.
OMG🤣she is just like my old cat Pinjo (german pronunciation: eher so wie "Pienjo" oder "Pientscho") and he was the cutest, but most unpredictable, cat in the World...he passed away two years ago...I miss him so much...and most of the people were afraid of him, but I loved him to pieces even if he attacked sometimes😁
I have a cat that I took from an abusive household. He is not comfortable around women or other cats, but is fine around dogs. He pees on my stuff. So I moved him in with my boyfriend while I was getting my little one neutered, and he fell in love with my boyfriend, cuddling and purring so much. He never purred with me. So I asked my boyfriend if he could keep him and that cat is so happy. Doesn’t pee everywhere, is super sweet to me now, cuddly and is eating properly.
Paravet here. That cat is VERY overweight. You rather want a cat to be underweight than overweight. They're not like humans. They need to be dextrous and quick to be happy. Not being able to express that will stress the animal and make it unhappy. This could explain why she's so hard to handle, while being seemingly healthy apart from the overweight.. Don't make your cats fat people. It's extremely unhealthy.

Usually when animal dislikes a specific person so much, there is a reason why they hate it, especially out of nowhere, my dog for example likes everyone in the house, but not so many of our neighbours and other family members even tho they like her back … and I mean knowing some of those people, I understand why she just ignores them or bark at them, they did no harm to her, it is just their vibe and behaviour animals have good sense in general about people (if they weren’t traumatized or something) so yea I trust my dog 100% when meeting people and her reaction to them
My husband and I adopted one like this. Actually, she's a failed foster because her spicy level is so high. We were afraid that a shelter would put her down, and that whoever adopted Her would get tired of her biting and scratching, and simply dump her out on the street. Our Loca is very much a kindred spirit to this cat: plump, hissy, bites and scratches, doesn't get along with the other cats, hates to be brushed, doesn't play with traditional cat toys, loves my husband, and tolerates me because I hand out the treats. Physically, there is nothing wrong with her. Loca is our little bipolar girl, struggling to live her best kitty life.
My grandmother had two cats through out her life that hated everyone but her. When both of them were about to pass they decided i was there favorite person. I've had four cats come to me before they died.
