And now for something completely different...
Follow along as we give chase to CPRS 4711 as it tackles the grades southward along the historic Delaware and Hudson Railroad toward the summit of the grade at Richmondville, NY. We start off the day with a few catches of Conrail action on the Selkirk Branch, followed by Amtrak trains (Lake Shore Limited and?) departing Schenectady station. We then jump over to the D&H Mohawk yard for a departing train with Soo Line power. Then it's off to Delanson where we await the southbound 4711! You've likely never heard anything quite like a Cat powered big MLW product so crank up the surround sound for this one!

CP 4711 , then MCCR 71 was bought by Chemin de Fer Sartigan up in Quebec to be used on future expansion on their rail coverage in 2024.

I ran 4711 when she was in the Toronto Terminals area in the early 1990's...a special bulletin had to be issued regarding her use of anti freeze as coolant - when an engine shut down in sub-zero weather the procedure was to drain it before the water in the cooling system froze; not necessary with this unit and on a few occasions engineers would drain the cooling system not realizing it was very expensive anti-freeze they were draining! :-O

I noticed the cat doesn’t sound significantly different from its alco counterpart or did you notice a difference when operating it?

@@skyraiderjet It sounded quite different when operating it...mainly because it ran at twice the rpm of an ALCO.

tprdfh51 The ALCO must be louder then the Cat because I hear more chugging then anything else. How did it perform compare to other locomotives? I’ve hear some say that the throttle response is different on the cat that they preferred either EMD or ALCO.

@@skyraiderjet it was quieter than an ALCO...didn't notice any difference in performance compared with other units other than it didn't overheat like the ALCO's did!
