Yeah, re-listening to the song now made me realize that. It has so much hidden meaning to it. When my cousin (who was only 7 at the time) watched it with me, she was confused as to why Wolfy barked instead of meowed. Then, once this song ended, she got all excited. she said 'OH. He doesn't HAVE to meow.' it was as if she realized that Wolfy was great the way he was. it's a great message to kids- you don't have to change to be special. And then she got to see Wolfy help save the day, all the while barking instead of meowing.
It's funny you mentioned that line, when I saw it it actually made me cry. It's crazy how much I didn't understand what this song was about when I was a child and how many times I catch things I missed as a child every time I revisit my childhood now that I'm older.
Let me tell you something, I’m 29 years old and I watched this movie with my sister last week and this part of the song was the one part in the movie that made me tear up I legit wiped tears away wtf

Actually I've read somewhere before that the Barbie industry has always been redefining social conventions. For example, in the old days, Barbie was actually the first (or one of the first) brands to produce toys of females shown to have male-dominated jobs at that time, like astronauts, scientists, teachers, lawyers, etc. So a Barbie Scientist at that time was revolutionary. :)
What I loved most about this scene was the king listening outside, just seeing Erika be herself and singing not about love, but about her cat and trying to cheer him up. It was so endearing how happy he got just seeing that side of her, but Erika didn’t even know! She was just focused on herself. ❤️ That is true girl power.
Note that King Dom was listening to that right after he decided to just tell her the truth about himself. And notice he smiled and left (maybe feeling assured) after hearing her singing the lyrics “I love you the way you are and that will never change” ❤️❤️ really is one of the most beautiful touching scenes
Zhane Alan pshhh no I love frozen and all but I like this a bit better since its my childhood and the songs mean a bit more, they make me happy since they were my favorite songs as a kid. Frozen songs are good but I'm listening to them when I'm older, not as much meaning n stuff, so I like this better
I still remember Dominick accidentally overhear her starting at the "Hey feline, you fetch just fine to think own self be true." And smile at "I love you the way you are, and that will never change." He also had a character development here where he realized that the girl who was singing was the one he was looking for. That's why the next song is *"If love me for me"* when they first 'officially' met in the presence of the queen, Preminger, and the subordinate of Dominick. Also, to disregard the people commenting that Dominick opened the door to the bathroom, he isn't. He opened the door to the princess' room, the bathroom is inside the princess' room, but he could hear Erika's voice from inside.
When talking about the guys - why nobody ever wondered about Julian knowing so well the princess room? Like where to look for shoes, robes... 😉 And then there is my husband not even knowing where to find fresh clothes for our daughter... 😀

I am autistic and I always feel I need to hide it. This part of the movie is truly unique and the message is *so darn beautiful*. ❤❤❤ THANK YOU, creators of this movie!!!
Well all of you shouldn't feel like that. I know it aint easy but it's yourself you were born like that so it can't be bad❤️ you should learn to love yourself just for they way you are and not concetrating to what others say. The people who love you will stay by your side. And in the end who defines what normal is? The thing that matters the most is your soul and not how you look outside. 💟

awe 💗💗 that’s what i love most about this song is it encourages you to be yourself. growing up, i never really understood the good messages in this movie (marry the person who loves you for you and not what they want you to be!!) that song is my favourite now but this cat song has always been one of my favourites and i always knew what it meant even at a young age. i love this 💗

I'm with you 100 percent! Nothing beats the classic Barbie movies. The Nutcracker and Swan Lake are my faves after this one! It will always have a special place in my heart because each song was short, yet beautiful in my opinion.

As a kid, I didn't understand nearly anything Erika was saying except "I love you the way you are." And it makes sense now as a whole looking back. I guess my inner self, deep down, knew it was something I wanted someone to say to me ever since childhood because not many people have said so to me growing up. So when I hear Erika say that now, I feel bittersweet pain, but touched because of how one could say this in a heartfelt song, especially after the emotional and mental struggles I've been through for years. For years, I just wanted someone to say stuff like that to me, in my face with pure honesty time and time again, like Erika did for Wolfie. To reassure me that I'm not abnormal, I'm just different and it's not bad. I feel like when there is a point where a fictional character is able to help me understand better than real people, it seemed like there is a major problem with society I know it sounds like it would trigger some sort of sarcastic violin play because of how sad, emotional, and "oh woe is me" sounding, but this is how I actually feel.
Thank you very much for writing that. Much of my healing work actually comes from fictional worlds - and mind me, I have had multiple therapists. Of course, there were also issues on my side...but I was just a kid. How are you supposed to help yourself when the real world around you doesn't give you the love you seek? As you said, there must be something off, something missing.... Well, life is short, but still long enough. Maybe we can use our experience to make this world a better place for the next generation of kids. I really appreciate all the creators behind these movies, they gave me so much of what I missed. I'm coming back to it time and time again.
me too but i just sang the bow wow line over and over again, he was a very doggish cat, mine was 16. you'll never not miss them, but with time it heals, they had an amazing life because of you.

Our old barbie movies were amazing. They had a point to them and weren't all about 'bar bie power' or 'saving the day' like the ones nowadays I'm happy that these type of movies filled my childhood and not the ones being made now.

The barbie classics' cover arts tend to resemble the dolls. Anyway, when I first watched Fairytopia i thought elena look a bit ugly. Her hair in the actual film looks so plain and modest, which always bothers me since in the cover her hair looks really pretty.
This barbie is one of my favorite barbie back then. English wasn't my first language and I was 5 so I hardly understand it. The only thing I catch this barbie is good and beautiful. As an adult I rewatch this and I just realize how deep the songs in this barbie. What make it really beautiful is the messages in it. I love Erica and Dominic relationship too

I used to think it was an okay film (not horrible, but not good either), and the fanbase made me kind of dislike it. There are lots of films out there that are WAAAY better and don't get half of the love Frozen gets. Frozen is not even close to being "the best" Disney film.
Frozen WANTS you to ship the sisters. They don't know how to do family love anymore. Lilo and Stitch was family love, Frozen is romantic love. Honestly, Frozen has no plot. It's been done a thousand times.

Barbie movies do a really great job of not underestimating the intelligence of children. That's how I can enjoy it so much; they deal with real problems that are emotionally relatable.

I grew up on this movie and now just revisiting it recently I now understand all the songs and this meanings. This song in particular has a special place in my heart, the lyrics are so powerful.
I am French. The French version is gorgeous, incredible, exactly the same vibe and beautiful voice, but I decided to see it in English and the lyrics are amazing, this movie is a work of art really. This scene made an implicit impact on me, I loved the spontaneity of it, today it’s my favorite one for the message and come on, the colours, the bubbles, the beauty of the designs and Dominic at the door, perfection beyond words.

Okay this is probably silly but I would imagine myself being the one Erika sang to. I was being bullied in school a lot as a child but just couldn't act like the rest of the kids, so this song meant a lot to me.
