Omg I sooooo relate to the part of drinking while cooking & doing chores. We always think it’ll be ‘fun’ or more interesting. What happens is u just want to crash on the couch & watch tv, no chores get done & nothing fun happened u now feel like crap, the kids are ignored & u r exhausted at work the next day. So many regrets

I love the idea of taking the medication everyday for a month (with a drink 60-90 mins later) before doing it only when you drink the next month to let your body adapt to the medication. I have had to quit different medications in the past with bad reactions to them. I want this to work for me! She also mentioned doing positive things on the off days which seems so smart to replace the habit with other healthy things. I am learning so much from your videos Katie. I have my yearly physical with my doctor Monday and I will tell him I need to do this. He knows my history with alcohol abuse. I am taking so many notes from the videos and your podcast. I am so excited to get started on this journey

I continue to watch videos and jump in to comment becuae everything resonates with my life. And it’s funny because a lot of people have been drinking for less time than I have. I have been drinking since I was 17 and now I am going to be 53. In the last years, it’s been worse with my separation. I too found Claudia and then you. I am believing that the alcohol industry is blocking this pill because I can’t believe a lot of people don’t know about it. What’s incredible is that most of us find it because we’re desperate. We’re all searching the same way. I literally googled, something about “how do I stop drinking or ir there is a cure” just like everybody else here. I hope that one day all of this gets more exposed so that it can save more lives. My journey has just started a couple of weeks ago and I can’t wait to see the end. I will keep you posted Katie 🙏

So informative. I relate to the part about actually realizing that drinking to reduce stress is actually not working. The less you drink and the longer you are on TSM the better you are actually able to handle stress. And we usually think the opposite. Also looking at it as an experiment is helpful. You both are so bright. Thank you.

Thank you for posting this I finally realized my drinking was damaging me about a month ago and got in to see my doc who has prescribed Naltrexone. I start my journey tomorrow, nervous about the possible side effects but I have been cutting back a lot and I love waking up not hungover every morning I hope this medicine can help me to keep going!

Only side effects I had was I would kinda zone out if I didn’t have anything to do. I would catch myself sitting and thing about nothing. This seemed to decrease with constant use. Starting I would only take medication on days I thought I might drink, doc’s told me to take daily and after awhile I didn’t notice it much. It is nice waking up not hungover. Now if I wake up feeling blah, I knows it’s lack of sleep or sick, I don’t always have to guess if it’s a hangover

You're not alone there are many of us out there. It's a sick joke but I keep telling myself it's easy to quit alcohol I do it everyday. I'm very confident that if we can stick to taking Naltrexone at minimum one hour before the first sip of alcohol then The Habit will disappear.

@@lpsglitterpaws8536 indeed we are. I hope I get my prescription on Friday September 29th 2023. If so I am absolutely committed to taking it one hour before I ever drink on any day no matter what. I believe this will finally after several decades free me of my alcohol addiction. I guess we will see. Not sure if my doctor even knows what this is and if she doesn't have to try to convince her. And if she doesn't I guess I'll have to get it from Mexico or something. In any case, I just know that I'm out here by myself like you are. We can say whatever about our drinking all it is is that I want to stop and I can't. And I really hope this medication will change that. I didn't want to do medication because I didn't want to use medication to mess with my brain, and till I realized that I was already doing that with alcohol. So I'm going to give this a real shot oh, I'm going to keep doing it until it works. I don't have much to lose. It's a lonely business but it is also a universal business

@@lovesJesus448 They completely pay for it. They mail it out ( quickly). They also have you work with telemedicine doctors for dosing and other ideas. Good luck. I found that I wasn’t really drinking to get drunk, but more to give me something to due when bored or downtime. So Naltrexone really didn’t have any affect on my reason to drink. They recently had me start another medication that makes you sick when you drink. I have started this a little over a month ago, and have never felt an urge to see how sick I’ll get, so I haven’t drank since starting. I take a pill in the morning ( when I don’t feel Iike drinking) and by time the evening rolls around I can’t drink because the medication stays in your system a few days. So far a win-win.

I took three pills on time. I spent the day today in bed feeling sick with an unusual hangover. I know these are the side effects of Naltrexone. You go down from 50 mg to 25 mg. The feeling of pleasure and heaviness in the head is terrible.

I took my first dose of 50 mg the other night , had 1 drink, threw up, and 48 hrs later im still having brain fog, nausea, and heart palpitations. I didn't drink a few days prior to the dose, and haven't since. I cant focus and feel like I'm getting over covid. It's awful.

I feel like I am a high dopamine person will this dull desires for other parts of my life ?
@Adrian-yi8fl
@Adrian-yi8fl Год назад
I don't think so I had the same fear but now that I've done more reading I'm pretty confident that's not the case. For one thing you only take it when you're going to drink. So when you're not drinking you don't take the medication and you can sill do the fun things that you want to get dopamine from. And at that point your receptors will be Primed to finally get some dopamine again so you will actually be over enforcing those good behaviors that you want to cultivate. I'm going to start this weekend I'll try to remember to let you know how it goes.

thank you so much for this. I got nalfemene from my doctor last year, and I was sick as hell from it. I felt high as a kite, and very depressed the days after. So after a few tries I stopped. Then we tried campral, but my kidneys got enlarged. But I'm gonna ask if I can try Naltrexone and cut them in smaller portions and try building up. They didnt like the idea of Naltrexone, but maybe I'll react a little better to it. Or try the nalfemene again, but in small doses to start off with

@@thrivealcoholrecoveryThank you! My doctor listened to me and took the chance this time. I got the prescription for naltrexone, and started off with 1/4th a pill. I am by now on 3/4th. I cannot fathom, how different my drinking has become already by now! I have only drank once! by myself in the last 3 weeks. (while my alone days were the ones I looked forward to because I could have my benders without being ashamed my partner/family/friends seeing me like that) Last week I poured my second glass of wine down the drain after it sat there for hours on the table. I could drink it, but I was quite ok not drinking it. Its the fact that I am starting to be able to chose to drink or not to drink... The road is still long to go, I'm not living in a bubble, but goddamn I have shed more than a few tears these last weeks because I am finally getting hope. I'm still weaning off AA cult- group dependency! i white knuckled it to sobriety. by 12 steps don't work. I was worse in AA, than alone without help, by my own metal. by i seen suicidal people, +there was two suicides during my time. even twoo girlfriends wer suicidal too. it wazza nightmare in AA!! thanx for new alternative hope for addiction. ❤️‍🩹
