This woman had me glued from the first minute. She is me. I was on Naltrexone, figured, eh, I quit, and now I'm back on it. It's so much better now because I'm more educated about how to approach it. I'll have a glass of wine or a beer, but then I'm done - I don't want to make it 3, 5, 8, whatever! And this time I plan to STAY on it. Thank you both!! Hopefully I lose my love handles too :)

On the one hand I admit I'm quite skeptical, but on the other hand I had a similar experience to quit smoking by transitioning to vapes and then to nothing at all. It's been years since I've had any smokes and I can't even stomache the taste now. It almost feels like cheating and somehow I should have to suffer to actually quit drinking. That said if there is an out I'm gonna try it. I'm so tired of my own BS.

Samantha...so spot on about sleep!!! I thought I was trying to numb out, or helping to sleep (blackout)....WRONG! we struggle under so many misconceptions it is not funny. another great interview. I relate a lot to Sam, similar age and a similar I think relationship and experiences with alcohol.

How random to see someone on a panel and go isn't that Samantha I used to know from Shea Hampton's acting class? Anyhow, congratulations! Sounds amazing how you've come through this so successfully. I've dabbled with naltrexone for like a decade now but have never really committed to it. Maybe I heard about the Sinclair method like an over decade ago but the only way I could get the drug was ordered it from India lol. So glad things have changed. My doctor has no problem prescribing it. I've dabbled, I know it works, its incredible, but for whatever reason didn't take it often enough . Probably figured Oh I'm strong enough, I can restrain myself without any help lol. Needless to say that's completely delusional. So up and down with the alcohol abuse at times but now I am done. I'll be completely devoted and probably will for the most part consider myself a non drinker but maybe occasionally allowing myself while taking it. Thanks for these videos and Sam for sharing your story. Nice to see you and you're a great inspiration.

I do like this idea with the sinclair method, and I have Naltrexone. What I like is that when my brain is completely set on, I'll never drink again, becoming sober can be very depressing. When my mind is set on I can pour a glass of wine after the pill/1 hour, It's easier to handle. And what I do is, say I drink half the glass, I pour sparkling water in to refill it. So in my mind i'm still drinking, but it constantly is less and less.

I helped a friend after discovering the sinclair method. It is life changing!

I am delighted to share with you that my GP supports TSM albeit she cannot prescribe Naltrexone. I have been referred to my local addictions clinic who will be facilitating the prescription of Naltrexone plus Acamprosate via CPN/psychiatrist. Due to work load, this will be prescribed next week & that is when I start my treatment. I will keep you informed!!

Excellent, thank you for sharing your experience. I sound pretty similar, I want to stop alcohol but couldn't stop however I couldn't get on Naltrexone because I had to get into a course so I ended up on Antabuse, so I havent had anything to drink for well over a month which I could never have done with out the threat of feeling sick so Im happy with my state so far. However I'm looking at staying on this for 6 mths and then try again to get onto naltrexone because I really want my brain to decide it doesn't want to drink rather than my fear saying you cant drink, but we will see, I might just decided never to drink again as I am now seeing alcohol for what it really is but I still get the cravings etc, maybe they will go away over the 6mths. What ever the case what you are saying about not drinking is so true, my sleeping is much better, a bit too better but that might be the normal withdrawal or antabuse side affect, dont know. Anyway great to here your story of getting your control back, I look forward to the voice in my head forgetting to remind me about having a drink :)

It is crazy & insane that medics will not/ cannot prescribe this medication!!

BWAAHAHAHAAAAAA my Dr. just prescribed Naltrexone and I took one 50mg pill and I got SO SICK! nausea, depression, shakes, insomnia, cried for 2 days. I tried it AGAIN a week later, and same symptoms. NOW my doctor said "hey, try HALF a pill" so that's happening next monday. Four years later, this video is still super useful! I didn't KNOW it was common for folks to have trouble on a whole pill. Also, this video is really hyping me about my chances of being a social drinker!

You have done a hugely supportive thing by making this video Samantha. You have really put the Naltrexone message out there. Will work for some and not for ihers. But it is a possibility. Maybe be even more effective, if used in parallel with some kind of counselling or therapy. Look at the underlying problems as well. I am certain, like you Samantha that Science is going to make some great discoveries and find highly effective treatments for addiction in the next ten years. Just carry on with what you are doing. I tried Naltrexone was very good but eventually I went back drinking without it , I recently had a bad blackout experience on booze just before xmas 2019 , I have managed to stay off it cold Turkey due to basically accepting I cant drink anymore if I want to live a long healthy life ..

Hey Sam, I saw you a long long time ago at an AA meeting and was impressed with your share. Don't worry I never gave your identity up. But your story always resonated with me. I've been going to AA for close to 30 years and I'm in the middle of a humdinger of a relapse. My friends won't talk to me anymore and I'm really depressed. How does this method work. I'm like at the end of my rope, I really don't know what to except to is check into the Psych Ward. I don't want to die and I have 2 kids and found out 2 weeks ago I'm a Grandfather now. What happens when i drink without the Naltrexone after i feel my brain is retrained? Will i still be able to drink less even without the pill?

Yes, don't just start this Rx with a whole pill; likely to have nausea, dizziness, disorientation. She mentions starting with a 1/2 pill around the 13 min. mark. Something like 5-10% of everyone taking this have such severe side effects that they end up discontinuing the med.

Wow!! This seems like it works. I have had some Naltrexone in medicine cabinet for a year now and have shied away because the monster has been stronger than anything else. This morning I will start thanks to hearing this story. I hope to hear a reply and would like to share my trail to sobriety🙏

I have the naltrexone after detox and rehab and started again worse. My fear is the the dangers of serious alcohol withdrawal symptoms? I heard possible seizures and even death.

Coming hi Samantha you don't know me obviously my name is Rodney, I live on the island of Puerto rico, born and raised in Southern California. not to drag this out too long but your story hit me at home base . I left California permanently 13 years ago to help care take my parents I was so 5 years in the states through AA, sober. Unfortunately especially here on the southwest side of the island there is no support or AA that I knew of,, and well met somebody and she took me out for dancing and it just took one shot of tequila and the rest is history as years as years passed lots of family members are gone now my mother's in the nursing home at the age of 99 God bless her, and I'm here alone drinking and it's doing some damage. So I'm trying to find help and so I'm Came Upon a news briefing about Naltrexone , lucky enough I had my cell phone in hand and I took a picture, very excited started looking into it online I've been through five doctors here , unfortunately. they are not licensed to prescribe Naltrexone , today I signed up at the hospital San Juan Capistrano in my local area . Speaking to the psychiatrist being checked out by nurses and finally sitting down the doctor Who even called other doctors on her cell phone talking about this and again she had said I don't know what the dosage would be to give you if I were to even be able to get it but regardless they're not licensed either. Sadly they give me something different and I see that the side effects of these other drugs if I were to slip and drink could be fatal I really don't want to f*** with it. And closing it's just good to hear someone is speaking out, Puerto Rico , it's flooded with alcoholism here with this deadly poison.. and of course among the rest of the world. I'm going to keep trying I'll look into these Sinclair method. And I thank you for you putting out the word. take care stay sober.

How should be taken naltrexone? Take everyday or only before everytime to drink?

Hey Sam. Maybe a bit late as last comment was years ago, but wow! Your explanation of justifying through denial (but all the while knowing) really hit a note with me. My first prescription is in the post just now, so should be starting my new life in next few days. I have to say, our lives probs couldn't be much different, but story so similar...I am a guy from Glasgow, in Scotland. Real drinking culture here, but that wasn't to blame for me...I just feel bit different, not weak, cause I did well in life, but just susceptible to alcohol!! It grabs me in just the right way. Really looking forward to trying TSM...if it doesn't work I'll keep going, but haven't even tried the AA route as I never really thought it would help. Science is hopefully the answer, as it is with so many other afflictions. Thanks to you and the interviewer for such a motivational film! If you self medicate with alcohol to treat anxiety, then I don't think this will work. You will be more likely to panic that alcohol won't work in panic attacks and freak out more that there's no quick fix. The best thing to do in this case is tapering or safely detoxing and using therapy along side SSRIs.

Funny stories. I remember my first time, I was also fourteen, and it was rum from my grandpa's cabinet. I only took a few gulps and I thought it was nasty. It was awful 😖. So, to make a long story short, I went and laid down on the carpet infront of the TV set. I was watching Hispanic comedy shows. Everyone was asleep in the house. I could not feel a thing until the moment I tried to stand up. 😕 everything went round in circles and I felt euphoric and dizzy at once. I was young and innocent, . I thought: WHAT'S HAPPENING TO ME!!😵‍💫. I Immediately went to mom and pop's room and banged on the door. I tell my ol' lady: ma, I think I'm dying. I went on to tell her what I had done. She was mad 😠.; stupid child' you are drunk!! Go to sleep, it'll pass. Tomorrow you, me and your dad are going to have a serious talk. THE END
