Mixed reports on this phone but many people have bashed it on Google reviews saying it freezes up, Bluetooth drops out, pissweak battery (4000mah for rugged phone is very low) I want to get one because it's basically the only one I can buy here in a regular store, but I'm seeing too much negative feedback.
I have a cat s41 and I throw it all the time to the shock of my mates, I've had it for 3 years and it's still going strong no damage other than a few scuffs on the plastic. I'm surprised that the screen isn't even scratched!
This is a great review, thanks for sharing it! I've been using a basic JCB phone for far too long, it's had some abuse and still works fine, but it's about time I upgraded to a smartphone. This could be the one!
Great review, I just got the s62 pro.. my 2 cents..and my first impression, from the unboxing, when removing the protection foil, i got a little grain and air bubble under the gorilla glass protection in the upper right corner, near the black stripe in the aluminium frame. (Big bummer) I will return the phone cause for +/- 520 Euro I want a perfect looking phone (when it comes out of the box) The phone feels and (while tapping) sounds like a plastic box, but heavy and good format. because the back is made from hard plastic (TPU) instead of Synthetic Rubber (TPU kind of) the phone could slide from the hands when the are greasy. Camera is surprisingly good, the front as the rear one are doing very good.. good focus, colors are accurate and not that much grainy while zooming in, as expected. (note; when using a pro camera app, getting in play store, you can take all the settings into your own hand) Video is not that great, a bit blurry, not as sharp as the pictures, sound is stereo, but a bit flat in the dynamics. There is just one loudspeaker, its loud, but poor in dynamics, not that much base, so it sounds a bit cheap in my opinion. The display is a good LCD one, good looking and crisp, but scrolling and swiping is in my opinion a bit slow and not that snappy. And that makes the phone feels slow to me. (BUMMER!!) Also you are not able to watch 4K video on youtube, just watching HD is possible. The sensors are fine, but I'm missing the air pressure one.( I just need that one) The thermo Flir camera is outstanding and does a great job in all kind of measurements. (big thumbs up!)
I have a cat s60 lasted a long time no problems. Im a plant mechanic sometimes work on cat machines. In one year I broke 3 normal phones this one has lasted and thermal cam is very useful for engineering may upgrade to this one
s60 is crap 1.Android 6.0.1 can't get higher so lot of apps not working 2.Battery life is crap 3.My s60 was in service warranty 3 times 4.Phone is lagging Only thing i agree is it is durable got phone 3 years and it still working
I have owned two different Cat smartphones. For the most part I liked them. The issue I kept running I to is they stop providing updates for the OS after about a year or two which eventually causes apps that you installed through the Google playstore to stop working.
A great review! Thanks for uploading, I have 1 more question, my apologies if you already covered it but I missed it. Does this phone have a wireless charging capability? I'm finding it fairly easy to find out what the phone has, but not so much what it doesn't have. For me, this feature is quite important. The amount of phones I've broken due to overuse of the charging socket is rather high.
Heya, glad you liked it. As far as I'm aware, no - and it's no surprise given the size of the case that surrounds it - wireless charging would be hard to achieve (although, probably not impossible).
Thanks, just got the 62S and still not sure if i keep it,, after your video i am now at 85% sure.. Did you had troubles with the MyFLIR app? Sometimes it seems crashed, i cannot restart it, will crash right away until i reboot then again all fine ... until it crashes.. still unsure when, often after use when its still running in background, i cant switch back to it.. this alone would reduce my rating for this phone by 40-50% .. yeah, its 2 years old now ;)
Great Video...I current use the S61 and LOVE it... looking forward to the upgrades (FLIR Pro, finger print)...wonderingdoes out allow for wireless charging?
As for the camera sticking out, it is a problem for me although i will still be buying this phone. I have been using the s60 and s61 for work and i love these phones. The camera sticking out is a problem while using level apps (like bubble level etc). Still the best multitool on the market though.
Finally a full on review of this phone - thank you.. I like everything about this phone but the rear normal camera is a deal breaker for me. They really cheaped out on that camera. Such a shame because otherwise it's a decent phone. Perhaps they needed to keep it low spec to pair it with the FLIR camera? I have a Oneplus6 so will stay with this until they bring out a better model with a better normal camera. The lepton 3.5 sensor costs a fair bit so I'm guessing they did that to keep costs down. How fast does it recharge? My oneplus charges to 75% in 30mins with dash charger (their fast charging feature). How does it compare? How do the speakers function? I've read they're a bit shit too and too low/muffled sound? Thanks again!
It really shouldn't be compared to a normal consumer phone: it won't fast-charge in that way, takes a few hours - although does accept a fast charge. As for the speakers, something I forgot to talk about: they're okay, but due to the casing, much like the audio recording quality - it's muffled. So what you've read is correct. Glad you liked the review!
The camera is totally fine. It's the same module used in the Pixel 3 just with a little less Google magic. You don't need those joke 48MP sensors with quad Bayer in a phone.
@@Veptis hmm didn't know this Googled about turns out it's a Sony Exmor Imx363 which isn't the best out there but not the worst so you're correct - thanks. Can geek out on it here: www.deviceranks.com/en/camera-sensor/42/sony-imx363-exmor-rs
I only got it for a short loan. I didn't have issues with the mic myself, but some did say in the comments that the call quality wasn't loud enough for them.
Did you say that there is NO headphone jack in this model? Can its original battery be replaced by a more LONG-LASTING one ? P.S. What are those SPEAKERS (the 2 black ones on the bottom, and those in brown cabinets, above them)?
Would this be a good upgrade from a Galaxy S8 that I've had for 4 years? I really don't do much besides regular call/text and browsing social media and internet. Thanks
How is the music player app (are you able to use your sd card that has lots of music on) I have been really prone to breaking phones so getting a cat just wondering what music app it had by default
Protruding Camera Lenses are to make up for the space volume of the additional protection case. However, in my experience with the s60-Phone Model; was great piece of equipment. But the Camera Lenses were not as resistant as the Phone. Maybe with the s62Model they have upgraded the Camera Lenses, but since they have not mentioned, I doubt it.
Great review, thank you very much I've been wanting to see a decent review on this phone and here it is! Do you know how the camera is at taking pictures of text? like for example a databadge on the back pretty much any electrical device (eg gives model name, serial etc) Thank you.
That's a good question, I did test it with random text and it seemed fine, although, the macro range isn't great so it is worth bearing in mind how far/big the writing will be. So if it's tiny text I think the camera will struggle to pick it up properly (regardless of what the background is)
I bought a used CAT S62 and the phone is now stuck in the boot loop. CAT refuse to send me the ROM so i can flash my own phone with software i own and which should work on a less than 1 year old phone, they themselves wont service the phone unless I have the purchase receipt which i don't since it was bought used. Their after care service is non existent, if yours becomes faulty in any way good luck with it. Won't be buying another CAT phone again.
Hi dear brother please reply and tellme what is this a totally passed or failed because i thinking about it purchase in this day's i am going to buy just tell me about it cat s62pro and s62 what is this different types model's are its same model mobile phone wich is better s62 or s62pro model is better iam crazy about it please reply me back bro pleeeeeeeezzzz? Iam from Italy
I have very good thermal sensitivity. But no peoples believe me because they think i'm hallucinating by senses. Can i use the thermal feature on this phone to document what i feel? I really need it
This range of CAT phones has come a long way😂💪. I watched this video on my CAT S60💪💪really a nice feeling knowing that if it accidentally falls out of your pocket or you trip over something that it would survive unlike the mainstream consumer phones.
I have a S60 from 2016 and bought a S62 last year. There one thing i can confirm for sure other than not finding it on the S62: FM Radio. some site with their Spec show FM Radio on the S62 but (in Canada at least) there no way to know if there actually a FM radio chips on it. I know usually no jack mean no antenna so that is maybe why. Is there actually a FM chips on the S62 and if yes how we can activate it
@@TotallydubbedHD ok. Thanks for the reply. They are missing out on lots of sales because of not supporting USA. I'd buy one in a heartbeat and I know others in my trade that would also. Have a good day bro.. great review! 👍
Don't be fooled by the blurry upscaling. The Lepton 3.5 has a resolution of 160x120 which is very low and he bare minium for thermal cameras. In fact it's difficult to get pixel level access to do some stiching or stacking. It's radiometric and VividIR is a strong point while the 8.7hz framerate is extremely awful. Battery and no headphone jack is what is holding me back from upgrading from my S60
Does this have the laser distance measure and air quality sensor like the s61? Also, you could probably solve the wobble problem by using a case (not that it would need it?). Watching you drop the phone like that made me cringe, but it was impressive. Wish the CPU/GPU was a bit more juicy.
Cat s62pro thermal camera shows when you öpen it it doesnt show when you turn the camera off and on we need to reset the camera settings every time do you have a solution for this problem?
If you still have it can you test the termal view in the dark? Not as a picture or a film. The only thing i need is a view on display in the move.Try walking & a short run.I'll appreciate it. Since I've broken my phones glass (the display still works) I'm serously considering buying smthg and the termal view in the move is the feature which could made my choice.
The last CAT S61 let me down, due to internal hardware issues on both phones. I did like the 19hours of screen on time but everything else was bad. I'll stick with the Blackview BV9800 pro. Over a year of use and no issues. CAT did have great customer service though.
I just got this phone, I'm loving it so far, the battery easily lasts me all day. Screen to body ratio is better than the other cat phones, but even straight out of the box I noticed this phone runs hot as in warmer to the touch than a lot of other phones. Is this a common problem?
You can get a reading from pretty far away actually. But the object needs to either be quite large or damn hot. So you can't see your dog 100 meters away but I can easily mesaure my neighbors window from 30 meters away. For it to get picked up far away the temperatur difference to the surrounding needs to be bigger. I haven't tested it yet but you could probably see a hot car from a 100 meters away.
I've had it for 3 months now being in the swedish army. It takes a beating alright but my apps stopped updating, can't download apps, charging port is laggy and sometimes it doesn't charge at all. Battery drains very fast and it lacks many software features that my old oneplus 5T had. The screen brightness is pretty high even on minimum and you can't remove the google search field/date on the homescreen to mention a couple. It's pretty slow compared to my old phone too. I will try to turn it in during my next permission. Sad though we need more phones on the european market. :)
I owe the S52, yeah its pretty rigid but after you dip it in water, the audio is inaudible for the next few hours until it dries . . probably the mic too is underperforming
Very nice the upgrades and your description as well, totallydubedHD !!! . Can you review the emissivity, please ? Can you config manually the emissivity to human body 0,98 ?
On my s61 the plugs fell off and letters CAT fell off. I had to install luncher from Huavey and keybord from samsung... If s62 have same android it is same s61 and I think that next time I'll buy samsung for 1000 $
As soon as the Cat S62 series of phones have regular cameras that match or exceed an S10+, I'll never buy another phone again. I use my phone 99% for my business and as long as the image quality is there, this would be the phone I'd buy hands down every time!
It would be perfect to see this phone being.used in construction. If i buy it,my main use would be locating ceiling.joices to hang stuff and being 100 accurate.Finding wall studs would be awesome too. It would be a time saver.
I've used my S60 to find the stud thru vinyl siding when I was hanging a rack for our garden hose Inside, you can even see the nails/screws holding the drywall onto the studs because the studs are different color than the insulated wall and the metal show up as a differnt temperature than the wood.
I was on a ladder once sorting out an issue with my CCTV camera system when my phone slipped out of my pocket 🙊🙈🙈, plummeted 2 meters to the floor and was perfectly fine 😂😂, any other phone would have shattered unless it was fitted with an OtterBox case
Like your video...I have a older CAT phone..... funny how you don't like camera lens sticking out.... have you seen the iPhone 13....for pre order....they copied lenses....odd....
