Great reaction you got the meaning perfectly. The dialog between father and son were beautiful. The father voice was clam and knowing and the son's was more emotional and angry. This was writing at the time when the younger generation was rejecting many of the values and customs that were never questioned by the older generation. Awesome lyrics and singing by Cat.

Hello Blessing. I’m a father and appreciate your reaction and this is one of my favorite songs. We all need a good father. My real dad past away unexpectedly when he was 56 years old. I was 26 years old at that time and devastated by his passing. I became very depressed and ended up praying to receive Jesus in my heart. Jesus spoke to me at that time and said to me “I’m the Father of your life”. That meant everything to me and I thank Him for helping me to be the father I wanted to be for my children.

Cat Stevens penned this song from the perspective of a father and son in a Russian family during the Russian Revolution, with the son wanting to leave to join the revolution. The son declares it's his calling to leave for war and his father wants him to remain with the family.

Very touching to see the artist who marked the beginning of my journey as a teenage boy way back in the late 1960s-early 70s. Wonderful reaction, Blessing, thank you ❣️🥰🌹May I suggest another beautiful Cat Stevens masterpiece, a love song this time, titled, "How Can I Tell You". This song is so gorgeous I performed it as the Bridal March when I married my first wife in 1973. 😇❣️🌹

Great reaction! This song was released during a tumultuous time, with protests against racism and war that led to a lot of violence, and the youth were scorning the parental generation, which was called the "generation gap"... Literally millions of young people rejected their parents' culture for the hippie movement; I was one who left home at 15 yrs old to travel, take drugs, and go to music festivals where singer songwriters like Cat Stevens inspired us!

Islam - who changed his name from Cat Stevens after he converted to Islam in the 1970s - was barred from entering the United States after his name was discovered on a U.S. government "no-fly" list on Sept. 21, 2004. There was a time that many US radio stations stopped playing his music because of him changing his name.

Troubadours! Poets by song! Dad’s know they won’t be around forever so there’s an unknown amount of time to love and prepare your children for LIFE! So don’t be in such a hurry to grow up! “You’re young only once. Enjoy your youth! I may be 70 but I’m happy when I’m around my daughters. Then again a Dad shouldn’t outlive his son! Or wife! I guess being alone doesn’t make you lonely. Well… maybe sometimes! Eventually I’ll have to “go away” too. It’s been a life of joy and sorrow. I’m not afraid, I just tend to shy away from it. What scares me the most, is becoming a burden on my family! Lingering around for an extended period of time that’ll be a possible financial burden on my family!!! It hurts to think about it!
