Oh, I LOVE Cat Stevens! He has such a soulful, lovely voice. I was sad when he dropped out of music for all those years, and very glad when he came back! "Moonshadow" is my favorite song of his. (We sang "Morning Has Broken" at my church when I was a teen. This was back in the 70's, when guitar masses were all the rage, and songs like this made it into the liturgy!)
This was playing when my 2 year old daughter starting sobbing her heart out. I picked her up and asked her why she was crying, and she replied through the tears "Morning has broken". I hugged her so tightly.
Cat Stevens was a very gentle musician. His album Tea for the Tillerman was considered one of the best of its time. He is unique there was no one like him during his greatest popularity and hasn't been since
He's an absolute Phenom India...one of the greatest singer songwriters that graced our planet...on the top of his fame, he left it all and became a Muslim, chaning his name to Yusuf. His fans mourned losing his brilliance, as he kept a vow to stay out of fame for 30 years for his higher good. Several years ago he resurfaced and fans went nuts. He did like one tour and that's all it took for his to get into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I was so lucky to have seem him during this time. He's an older, gently soul, but gracing us again with his singing. He has so many hits one just has to listen to them all. Father and Son is unbelievable.,.
Kathleen Smith...AWWWWW, Harold and Maude...about a young man who is done with life and an old woman who is full of the love and joy for Life...I LOVE that movie! Hits me in all the feels! What a journey that movie is! Reminds you that Life is a journey! 🥰🥰🥰
Yusaf is Cat Stevens. He devoted his life to Islam and changed his name. He's so lovely and his music is splendid! Keep listening to him, you won't ever be disappointed: ✌🏼🌎
He had to go into hiding for a while and stop performing because of radical Clerics ordering his assassination... dude has allot of courage as he is now back performing.
He's always been a spiritual man, Morning Has Broken is a deeply moving CofE hymn that touches me, and my family greatly and always has, there are many ways to God, he has found his way via Islam, whatever the way the end destination is still the same.
@Carson and I was disappointed in Yusuf/Cat.....(I love Rushdie. He’s a brilliant writer.) He didn’t need to go public with supporting a fatwah (to kill KILL Rushdie)...I have no problem with him following Islam. Rushdie had to go into hiding for several years. Yusuf didn’t have to go into hiding. He retired from the public eye. Decades later he returned and his fans are still here. But he didn’t write new music... there’s plenty in his catalogue.
I think YOU should do some more research Mike K because you and all other Yusuf/Cat Stevens haters couldn't be more wrong. If all you haters would just stop hating and start loving, this world would be a much better place.
@@tantraman10 MILLIONS OF CHRISTIANS have been slaughtered throughout history - from the very beginning - MILLIONS!!!! And they continue to be slaughtered even to this day! What on EARTH are you talking about?? It is no secret that Christians are the most persecuted religious group in the WORLD! Do your research!!!! A simple google search will yield countless sources. As a historian I know about this through my studies and my academic research. I don't even need google. Sickening!
Cat is one of the great ones. Teaser and the fire cat and tea for the tillerman are two of my all time favorite albums. It's a shame he stopped performing after converting.
Cat Stevens changed his name to Yusuf Islam when he converted to Islam. He goes by both names professionally. “Morning Has Broken” is a Protestant hymn, with the lyrics taken directly from the Book of Ecclesiastes in the Bible.
Morning has broken is my childhood and when you get 50 children singing this hymn it's anything but sad - it's about rebirth and the glory of God's creation.
Maybe listen to Cat Stevens' song, " Father and Son " , if you choose to listen to that song. Yet more than that, thank you for your excellent and enjoyable uploads.😊
I think he walked away from the music industry at the height of his success.....converted to Islam, and changed his name ( in the late 1970s ) He made a return after 9/11......and still spreads the message of peace & love.....but you can imagine, there was a lot of controversy about him being a Muslim. An unmistakeable voice. LOTs of hits. 'Peace Train'......and 'Where Do the Children Play' are a couple of my favorites.
Not so sure about the love and peace part though. Remember Salman Rushdie? In February of 1989, Yusuf Islam addressed students at Kingston University in London about his conversion to Islam and was asked about the controversy in the Muslim world and the fatwa calling for Salman Rushdie's execution. He replied, "He must be killed. The Quaran makes it clear - if someone defames the prophet then he must die." I don't think he probably actively sought the murder of Rushdie, but still...
I don’t think he did the walking. The music industry shut him out due to his beliefs. Unfortunately there is so much misunderstanding in this world which is dealt with through fear and hate. I hope our world can survive the Big Bang of human hatred and fear when it finally crescendos. Maybe we can learn to love, forgive, and heal by understanding each other’s perspectives.
My mom died in 1987 at the age of 58. I made the funeral arrangements for her, I was 28. I had this song played as a celebration of her life. I like to think she was smiling while it played.
@@shorttcakke My sister passed away 7 years ago at 59, and this song was on her tribute DVD. I can't listen to the song without sobbing. May your mom and my sister hear beautiful celestial music with Yusaf's included.
Morning Has Broken is actually a very positive message, I've never heard anyone call it a sad song before. We used to sing it as a kid in our church's junior choir.
Morning Has Broken was one my favorite songs when we sang it in church (Unitarian Universalist).. I'm pretty sure it was the first song in the hymnal! I never thought of it as sad in anyway... It's a celebration of a new beginning we all get, every day! "Yusuf" is the name he took when he converted to Islam.
I almost cried happy tears when I seen you reacted to him. I wanted to suggest him but I was worried about all the negative comments and haters that might show up if you featured him. I grew up listening to my 2 older sisters listening to him for hours at a time. Thank you. He had so many great hits over the years. I don't think he ever had anything but good thoughts and love for the whole world in any of his music. He was just amazing. Father and son was excellent. Oh very young still makes me cry. And so many others.
Cat Stevens is one of my favorites from my teen years. We had all of his albums. I have him on my IPod. His music is really pretty chill. He was huge back in the day.
I saw him live back in the late 70s. God he was beautiful and every girl's dreamboat! And he was so sensitive with a positive energy, and talented, too!!! He wrote and sang great song after great song! Please try The Wind, Rubylove and Don't Be Shy (studio versions)!
Cat Stevens was hot stuff in the 70's. I graduated from high school in 76 so I know his music well. Tea For The Tillerman and Teaser & The Firecat were great albums!
8:31, India Gets It. My Eyes are gushing and it's very hard to see the screen. I don't go to Church, but Morning Has Broken is The Spiritual Song for Anyone. Praise the Day, Praise the Light, Praise the Creation, Praise in Elation ! we live in a wonderful world, if we just appreciate what we have, we will always overflowing abundance
So glad that I got to see him live in the early 70s. He put on a great show . The day after the concert he showed up at the church of a friend and sang Morning Has Broken to the congregation
I have been a fan of Yusuf Cat Stevens since the 70's and it was so refreshing to hear your take on his songs.. I hope you continue to listen to more of his awesome songs.. because you really do get him.. Perfect analogy on Wild World.. it is great to see and hear a brand new fan experience. I felt you were right on the mark about Morning has Broken..everything is new again.."Gods Recreation of the new day. Even when someone passes on although it may be sad to us..they are reborn, and each of us can begin a new day as though we have just heard for the first time a blackbird singing..❤️😊 Praise with elation !!! It is a gentle and beautiful song of the spirit.
I adore Cat Stevens. Morning has Broken, to me, is more about being thankful for the beauty of each new day. We've been given the gifts of nature and they're here to remind us of a new beginning each day. I think you should also listen to Peace Train. It's another of his most popular songs. His voice is so beautiful. Back then, performers didn't use technology to enhance or correct their voice. It was all natural. I loved that.
I stumbled upon your channel during the corona. I love this guy. I saw him in concert while stationed at Lowery AFB Colorado in Denver while I was in Technical school for the Air Force in 1974. My personal favorite is Bitterblue!
He is one of the worlds best artists and I’m so happy your generation can enjoy his music. His music is so beautiful. I have all his albums and have loved him since I was 14..I’m 61 now. He was a gorgeous man. He’s 68 now.
Love Cat Stevens...One of the greatest artists of the 70's... Love your channel and the way you see things... Love to you sweetie...Have a beautiful day 💕
Grew up on his fabulous music. He was a gorgeous guy. Beautiful music, beautiful soul. Late 60s into 70s was the golden age of rock. We'll never see its like again. No autotune, just pure talent needed.
Loved his music and was so sad when he left the music world, but thrilled he came back..what 30 years later. Morning has broken is my absolute favorite Cat Stevens piece.
One of my all time favorites! Love that you're experiencing what he gave. This isn't one of my most favorite, less this version. Peace train , father / son. He's got a heart of gold.
Celebration of each day. I went 13 years Catholic school. Back in the 70s, we had “folk masses”. We sang this, among others, in Church. That was a great time and so many artists like Stevens, wrote poetry to music. This celebrates the dawn of each new day, in HIS living word.
I'm not sure who he wrote Wild World for, but I thought about it a lot about the time that my daughter was leaving home. Morning has broken is one of my favorite spiritual songs. I'm glad you got to discover him.
When my younger sister (by 7 years) was leaving for college (in '96), I made her a mix tape, and this was the first song on it. I was so worried about her going away and being on her own.
My daughter moved out to another state 4 years ago , she was 21 I cried and cried , thought if her every time I listened to this . And posted it on her fb timeline hehe
As a parent, this song (wild world) hits me in the feels. Every time I hear it, I feel like I can’t breathe because that’s how it feels when your child leaves home. It’s beautiful and scary at the same time.
this was in our hymn book at church. and i too remember singing morning has broken in the early sixties. the way he sang it he made it his own, and thats what you want to do .
I have every Cat Stevens Album ever made, and I idolized him when I was in my twenties...and do you know....it is only a year ago that I actually saw him live for the first time...in Perth Australia...and even after all these years his voice is great, in the seventies he was the biggest singer in the world ...good choice to react to. !!
Morning has broken that version is awsome his voice his lyrics are so gorgeous he was a gifted poet RIP he must be dead by now this was 45 years ago and he was im his 40s back then I loved that man such a kind gentle soul
My music teacher used to play "Morning Has Broken" on her piano and I would be fascinated.... Beautiful song of faith no matter who you consider your higher power.
Try the studio versions of "Oh, Very Young" and "The Wind" by Cat Stevens. Both are short, sweet and so very beautiful! Also, "Moonshadow" which has already been requested below is a favorite of mine as well. 🙂 (for yourself, try the studio version of Wild World, much more melodic and moving)! 💕
I had Morning has Broken sung at my wedding. It’s a hopeful song looking forward to a fresh new day and all it’s beauty. Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam is a great man with a great and interesting story to his life. Magical musician and story teller
