A voice like velvet and silk. And he means, what he's singing. It cames from bottom of his heart and makes the magic of his songs. He's so special❤and a good human.
I totally agree with you. I have watched this video many many times and still love it. I hear and watch his beautiful emotion and moves. He is the best.
I bought a cheap radio from a roadside shack in the Saudi desert in the 1991 Gulf war. Early next morning i turned it on as the sun rose up across the desert and this song was playing. A bird landed in the wing mirror of my truck as ‘black bird has spoken’ was sung.
This song was written by a Christian lady called Eleanor Farjeon. Cat Stevens found the hymn and converted it to a song. All words written by Eleanor Farjeon. Birth 13th February 1881, died 5th June 1965
What we need is awareness and reaction. No thing's is get better unless we act. It has got so bad that trying to pretend it's gonna be Allright eventually is not even gonna get through the one day. Bad news keep coming from every direction. No one though does the one bit to correct it.
You are wrong Mike. That - is NOT what this song is about. This is not a pleasant, sweet sounding 'tune' with some pretty words. It very clearly, and directly, states and references GOD - as THE source of the Morning. And you can forget about 'optimism' and any goodness coming to you if do not honor and come to GOD - the one who created both YOU and the morning.
Man, you look at the piano player and can really understand how players play their part in something bigger! To me, this is a fantastic demonstration of that. Making something bigger than the sum of the parts!
Agree! It is so nurturing. I recorded the "Dawn Chorus" for a Spring project when I was 11. I held the microphone out of our bathroom window at 4 am. It was beautiful to listen to the cacophony. And I am just your average person. I just loved the sounds of nature ❤
@@alanpeel3450 got to know this song late as i recently purchased this LP on vinyl (remastered @abbey road studios) and this song along is worth it. Incredible!!! cat stevens is in a league of his own
Strange to think that my wife and I not being religious used this song for our wedding. Many years later we embraced Jesus the Christ and continue to follow His example. Fifty years after our wedding the three of us are still together!
I imagine you believe in the Boogie Man and the Tooth Fairy too, but if religion blows your hair back then good for you! I prefer to believe in that which I can visually see or scientifically prove.
I feel like I’ve seen this piano player before. If I’m correct, he’s from Cuba and he’s absolutely amazing. We met a horn player that same night who had played with Janis Joplin, Van Morrison, and just a great selection of people over the years. This was at Mamma Mia In El Estado de Guanajuato
Cat Stevens was incredibly talented. It is sad he walked away from music for awhile, and became Muslim. He lived in darkness after that. We are sure he has regrets and questions his decisions. He could have produced many more great awesome music if he would have embraced Christianity, and stayed in the USA.
Praise God for such a beautiful piece. And the way he sings it is great. Simple, just acoustic guitar and piano as backing instruments. At times its the simple things that put over the most powerful message. This piece does just that. I am myself a born again Christian and also a music lover.enjoy it every time.
I knew Cat Stevens by name but i had never listened to his music, till last year when a coworker made me know a song from him. Then i found this song which i cant stop playing every morning. It makes me feel much peace in my soul.
I remember hearing all of Cat Stevens great songs in the '70s although the radios of the time were not that great. But to hear them now with such high sound quality is fantastic!
Heavenly. Lyrics: Morning has broken like the first morning Blackbird has spoken like the first bird Praise for the singing, praise for the morning Praise for them springing fresh from the world Sweet the rains new fall, sunlit from Heaven Like the first dewfall on the first grass Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden Sprung in completeness where His feet pass Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning Born of the one light, Eden saw play Praise with elation, praise every morning God's recreation of the new day Morning has broken like the first morning Blackbird has spoken like the first bird Praise for the singing, praise for the morning Praise for them springing fresh from the world
I think Cat Stevens is amazing. He's absolutely beautiful and charismatic. I have the utmost respect. Appreciate him and his values. He is a blessing to this world!
I don't believe in any god, but I respect those who do. Who knows, maybe they are right to do so and I'm wrong. I'm open to that. I think there are a number of negatives in belief, and particularly when following a dedicated religion, but if believing gives us beautiful music like this then that is one huge positive. One of my favourite melodies ever. Peace and love from UK.
I heard this when I was about 16 and getting ready for work as I looked at the sun's glancing rays on the wet garden. It didn't bother me that I had to leave for work and spend all day in dark surroundings, knowing someone had captured the beautiful moment and knew how I felt about it. Now I'm old, 75, but I've not lost that belief that that is where hope and beauty still resides even if can't always partake at the table.
I am a Christian and have loved the music he sang since high school. Father and son was always my favorite back then. Morning has broken may become my favorite as I have leukemia.
I agree. I woke up this morning with this song in my head. I only heard it maybe once or twice on the radio as a kid, so it's not like I have it memorized. I never knew Cat Stevens was the author. I simply typed the first lyric which is all I remembered into the RU-vid search engine and... presto! I got the chance to see the words and I have to admit, I cried. I had a lot of loss these past 2 years...a lot of stress. This moment today made me remember, something Holy is ALWAYS happening. Thanks for reading this. The compassion and tenderness of this piece is how I always want to remember God, and to remember to be grateful, even in sorrow.
Shirley Fredrick I agree with you completely on all of this . This is a beautiful song and one of the best songs to listen to during hard times ,as i feel the same way myself. God bless you always.🌹💖💖🎉
This is a christian hymn, published 1931 by english writer: Elanor Farjeon , inspired by the village of Alfriston in East Sussex, set to a traditional scottish Gaelic tune ' Bunessan , this song if often sung in children's services and funeral services (info from google search /' no copyright infringement intended, for educational /informational purposes only.) Obviously Cat Stevens was a believer and a Christian in his life, and career into the 70's , his brother handed him a book (Islamic faith) and he apparently wanted to convert for some reason, thus now he is Yusuf, we who listened to him, will always think of him as 'Cat Stevens.' freedom of speech &press USA copyrighted
I dunno about religious or political aspects of Stevens/Islam. What I do know is that we were compelled to sing this song in primary school (UK) and loved it. Turns out our teachers were actually pretty cool and tuned in (it was the 70s), and some wer e genuinely musical. Whatever his current beliefs , Stevens is a true musical genius. Sadly, there are not many of his ilk still with us. Bowie, Strummer, Prince, Amy - to name but a few.
This was a song that i heard in the military chapel. i was in basic l it soothed me when i was very uncertain about .my decision. lt is my beautiful song and Cat Stevens will always be in my heart❤

The “performance” is the record, with Stevens lip-synching, piano pretending to play. As mentioned already, the piano in the recording was played by Yes’ keyboardist Rick Wakeman. Not sure who the guy pretending to play was.
Like this sing from back then,! 1973, have tears 😢 now as an almost 55 year old guy,,! was just a 5 year old back then, Cause It was the 1st time i heard this song ,i was starting school as a 5 year old,,! God Bless from northern Ireland UK 🤝🇬🇧

Best song ever ❤ meaningful its a favof all time no such like him, the sweetest man created great songs with truly senses, more of a man with virtues, ty.
As has no doubt been mentioned somewhere, Rick Wakeman created and played the piano part. It was adapted from one of the suites of his Six Wives of Henry VIII - Catherine Howard I believe - which he was working on at the time. Cat liked and wanted to use it but Rick said he couldn't use it as it was going to be used for the Henry album. In the end Rick adapted it into something that could be used.
Although Rick Wakeman arranged and played the piano on the studio version hit on this song, Jean Roussel played piano here and toured with Cat for awhile back in 72/73
I first remember hearing this song when I was in grade school back in the late 70's. I had an attraction to it at that very young of an age. I'm 48 years old now and everytime I hear this song, it takes me back to my younger days when life was so simple. What a beautiful ageless song.
@@connieandgwennie1450 I still enjoy listening to the song though it seems so long ago when I first listened to this and dare I say again, having to express some level of enthusiasm when singing it.
@@williamcoram6492 Yeah, I couldn't stand a lot of songs I heard played to death on the radio back then. But after not hearing them for 40-50 years and I come across one I sometimes think "That one isn't as bad as I thought. In fact I kind of like it."
For you Mom. I miss you every single day. Anne, my bio Mom, and Judith - my dear & beloved step mother that raised me to be a loving, kind respectable woman..... you are the greatest - forever my dear Mother.
