I've found that to be true. I took care of my mom's cat, Dolly, for a year while she was in the hospital. My mom spoils her to death but I just let her do her own thing without smothering her and she came around and started seeking my attention.

@Jim : No, that's NOT what's going on, as everyone who understands feline behavior knows. Bean was abandoned as a kitten, when he still needed his mother; he wants mothering from Lily, not romance. People REALLY need to stop anthropomorphizing animals and appreciate them for who they are, for their feline behaviors and inclinations -- because when we don't make an effort to understand their needs, we don't meet their needs, which is part of the hideous cycle of cruelty to animals, and using them for food, leather, fur, and medical research. This is one reason why young males leave herds and establish their own territory. You need to read more about animal behavior or watch more docus about animals -- and you need to NOT post stuff that isn't accurate. Humanity -- and American democracy -- is at a tipping point because too few people are invested in sharing ONLY FACTS. Please be part of the solution, not the problem.

My cats are EXACTLY like this! Both rescues, one young and wiley, one a little older and content. Took them a year or two (or three) to start really snuggling but it’ll happen. Trust the process❤️

@@dogrudiyosun I have a kitty that I adopted also from the street name to Yuki he is almost completely identical the kitty in the video. That behavior is so familiar to me. It's the same relationship we have with our other cat. The exception is is that my cat is deaf . Before I adopted my Yuki I had planned to find it a home and I did, through a person that experts in the breed. He identified all the characteristics of a Turkish Angora. On the end I it wasn't a good fit and ended up keeping him instead.

In any case Maine Coons probably have the same kind of demeanor , who knows. In any case cats aren't an exact science. What makes us love cats is each one has a different personality no matter what the breed . Each time we adopt a kitten or a cat it's like putting your hand and a surprise bag full of presents.

He'd recently lost his "brother", a Ragdoll, before I got my little girl. So, my big fuzzy boy and my baby girl bonded well. I treat them as my furbabies. So, I'm Mama and they're the kids. And everyone is happy that way.

Oh! I would recognize that meow (Bean’s) anywhere! I saw him months ago in a YT Short describing the two kinds of cats in the morning. The white kitty was rolling on her back and saying “I love you, good morning” etc. and Bean was screaming, “I’m starving! let’s get the food going! This is a wonderful story and an incredibly cute narrative!! I love the girl talking. It’s true that constant staring, especially from above is all about dominance and is threatening body language to cats. He was also stalking / hunting her in a few parts. It’s clear Bean is harmless and won’t hurt her but he’s still a male cat wanting to stake his claim on his territory. It’s nothing bad just normal cat behavior. I can see why she doesn’t like it though! What a beautiful cat.

I was scrolling through the comments wondering why no one was commenting on the fact that Bean is simply being dominant (not great for the other cat honestly) and that this lady is reading waaaaay too much into this. Or maybe it just shows how socialized we all are into the creepy stalker romance trope that we even stick that framework onto animals that CLEARLY are not in a "romance".

I'm sure there is love, but not what the owner thinks it is; rather, love between normal, bored, household cats. yes, I noticed that. The stare is actually a threat, not adoration. When he drops down when they first meet and she immediately turns, this is not what they thought it is. A cat that drops this way and holds out its claws is showing it's ready to defend itself. Lily turns away to avoid a fight. The staring while she eats is also a menace, she must be quite uncomfortable with this. And when she lays down next to him, he prepares to lunge at her too to show her she shouldn't lie down there. @@Amphitera I've heard this happens with new cats who are brought into a place where an established cat (e.g. Bean) has already been living in & thus already marked it as *his* territory. So she's basically trapped in a place where he feels she's encroaching on his territory & needs to be reminded that she's a guest there.
