A basic introduction to support play delivered to a group of players of mixed ability, age, maturation, experience and motivations.
The coach encourages players to think about moving into support positions early, considering the angle and distance of their support, with the aim of arriving early enough to allow the sending player to play 1-touch/or with minimal touches.
UEFA Licensed coach Matthew Ogden uses a range of intervention strategies including guided discovery, read/write, questioning, demonstration, command and trial & error to scaffold the players understanding. The use of visual, verbal and kin-aesthetic input maximises the learning opportunities for the players, ensuring that all styles are catered for and the key messages for the session are conveyed in a variety of ways.
**The 2-part session was delivered at an all day Summer camp and therefore this is reflected in the length of the rest/observation periods afforded to the players during the initial practice. If the same practice were to be delivered in the confines of a 1 hour session, the turnover of players would need to be quicker - possibly introducing time constraints or reducing the number of passes required to complete the challenge, shortening the amount of time that players are waiting to practice.
**The coach may decide to use active rest - meaning players in the group waiting for their turn can choose to observe and learn from the players participating, or pair up with another player in the queue and practice minimal touch passing.
