@LoanwordEggcorn yes, we loved hanging out with them and they did great work on our boat. Very knowledgeable and it’s nice to have technicians who have first hand experience cruising, they really understood our needs in term of power and serviceability of the system.

Great stuff. I had a solar/lithium install done on my Tiffin Phaeton motorhome a few years ago, and it made all the difference in the world. Turned our rig into a boondocking monster. Now that we have RVing out of system, we've been looking at the Lagoon 42s and 46s and appreciate the honest insight you've been providing on your 42. Whatever we get, the first upgrade will be lithium battery installation.

Great video! The KiloVault HLX+ series seems to be a fantastic value. I’ve been studying them and noticed something I didn’t catch in the videos. The KiloVault installation manual states in several places “Do not use a battery temperature sensor with these batteries!” If using these batteries with a Balmar alternator/regulator setup and a Victron MultiPlus inverter/charger, both of which incorporate temperature sensing, it seems odd one would not take advantage of all the benefits these sensors provide especially having them limit alternator and/or inverter/charger output if the batteries heat up. Why is this, and how did you address it? Thank you so much for taking the time to share this very involved installation with all of us.

Hey! Thanks for watching, and for your question! Unlike lead acid batteries, charging voltages for lithium batteries are unaffected by battery temperature. You should not modify charge voltage based on lithium battery temperature as you could quickly find yourself in an undercharge or over charge situation. This is a different issue than the high and low temperature cutoff levels for charging and discharging a lithium battery. The Victron gear can certainly monitor the temperature of the batteries but you should not apply temperature compensation based on those readings. Regardless of the brand you install and regardless of the chemistry, we recommend following the battery manufacturer instructions to the letter.

Thanks again for painstakingly posting the transformation. One favor I'd like to ask, can you direct me to the final schematic? I swear when first viewing, that I saw an A/B drawing, with the later (B) having some adjustment done during the project, but now I can't locate it in the videos. I did find one schematic posted in your blog (conversion part #1) but I am not certain that is the final. I am curious about what battery isolation and/or external mgmt modules are used or were considered and not used? Also, was there any discussion about heat/fireproofing any of the battery storage areas? All good, no criticism, just a curious mind. Cheers!

Any updates on how this system is performing after a few months? Any issues or equipment glitches? If so, we’re they easy to identify, troubleshoot, and fix?

Hey Greg! No issues at all. We’ve been loving it! Electric cooking everyday, multiple times a day with no issue. Generator can fully charge batteries in under 3hrs if we need it (we’ve only needed it once since the install). Planning a video for next week that will show our draw and charge throughout a typical day
