Another great video Daven. Heard about this, but you went into details I did not know about.

Ironically engineer Mikhail Yangel survived the blast, because he only a few minutes before had to have a cigarette, and went into a small safe les than hundred meters from the rocket. One of the few examples of smoking saving lives. 😉

True, he still suffered brain damage though

Btw. One reason most that survivors that made it so far as to the hospital wasn't saved was because doctors couldn't get information about treatment or chemicals due to secret of state.

1500 km Southwest of Moscow would put Baikanor close to Budapest. Hmmm. Try 2000 km Southeast of Moscow. BTW, that would be 'hallowed ground' not 'hollowed ground'. Why are you showing pictures of fuelling a nuclear reactor when talking about rocket fuels? 3:45

After the explosion. It was probably hollowed ground.

Ah yes, work on a fully fuelled rocket, what could go wrong. Fuelled with hypergolics too, yikes. If the explosion didn't kill you then the hypergolic fuel would finish you off

We went from slapdash wood constructs with leaky ass 12hp engines, to hydrogen-cell rockets kissing the Great Emptiness at 11km/s in less than a century. We reached the sky, and subsequently made the moon our bitch... Hubris can suck it, we are Man.

Morbid, but more or less disintegrated, with most of the ship. Still, the debris field was across multiple states, some parts we're possibly found, but not released to public I'm sure. There's porbably still debris from the ship that made it down but, no one will ever find.

I wouldn't be surprised if Nedelin was given the Soviet Union's highest award. Even though he caused this disaster and the deaths of up to 200 people, including his own. I hope he lived long enough to regret his idiotic decisions.

No wonder one Elon Musk distinctly stayed away from using hypergolic fuels. Being both a major fire and environmental hazard is not a good thing.
