Watching in 2020 after loving her music for 25 years,,, I love this performance. .not her best but it's raw and gritty. Strange Glue is the best song ever
I think Cerys was at her real prime here, this was not long before the band split up in 2001 so Cerys was in her early 30s - but what a woman she is, one of a kind ❤️
I think Cerys was at her lowest here - she's either off her face on drugs or she's knackered from all the partying she was doing at the time - either way her performance is way off and she's lost that spark in her eyes. I saw her perform live at The Pop Factory a few months before this and she was on top form then. Guess that just goes to show how quickly heroin can ruin your body
+bluelightalarm I heard she had a drug problem at the time and has done brilliantly to turn herself around in what she doing now but as we know if you party too hard and exhaust yourself, it's only a matter of time before it begins to show - she had her reasons to get hooked on heroin (anxiety maybe?) which we know isn't the way to really deal with things but you're right the performance does sound like she 'is out of it' which shows how powerful these drugs are, they can completely change your personality. I did think when watching this is she stoned?
@@bluelightalarm bullshit, this was an absolutely cracking performance from this Welsh goddess. If you can perform well fucked up you're a damn professional..This performance rocks. I've been watching her since I was a teenager and she's totally unique. She hits the notes correctly with proper Cerys gravel in her voice..Love you Cerys.
Intentional, I'm sure. Like many artists, Cerys was known to write about her own personal experiences, like Karaoke Queen, written about a time she fell off the stage while doing karaoke or a large amount of her early songs, about her relationship with fellow bandmate Mark. He's also a fan of irony & pushing boundaries, like when he wrote the lyrics "Should be getting our tampons free, D.I.Y gynaecology" which Cerys initially didn't want to sing lol. I love their dark humour/take on life & the personal elements they added to their music.
yeah but the song - she starts with how mad cow disease etc... remember this is mid 90s. She can be interpreted as saying "is everyone here on drugs" - yes maybe at the time the chemicals and antibiotics they kept giving them.
