*This is your chance to tell me if you want me to stand up and talk, or keep quiet and carry on fighting my silent battle to "be me" in a way that I see fit. You decide now, if you want to give me a voice to speak up for my rights to be "masculine" in a way that I find natural, or acquiesce to the greater force that have been rising around us. If you want me to go silent, bear down, and fight, I will, if you want me to share my thoughts verbally, I'm happy to do so; your call. This won't be a regular thing, but every so often, I may need to speak up, but it's up to you to decide.* Trying out something new with this video. Near the end I will talk about hunting, fishing and the general outdoors as it pertains to "modern masculinity." I want everyone to know that I genuinely care about you and want you to know that you aren't alone in your drive to thrive in a modern world. If nothing else, I want to convey to you that your feelings and instincts about provisioning, hunting, gathering, fishing, whether you actually act on them or not, are completely natural and inherent which may be in complete contrast to what you've been taught in school, or maybe even by your parents, and certainly by society at large. As men we are designed to nurture in a way that seems foreign in our modern times, but this doesn't make it evil or something to be vilified, but rather celebrated, and held in high esteem. To procure game and provide to loved ones, is a gift as valuable as protecting an infant from harm, both are primal, and necessary to human existence. Celebrate your masculinity, and when facing criticism, do as all great men throughout history have done; double and triple your efforts. Make your critics grow weak and force their retreat. If this is something you enjoy listening to and would like me to expand on these ideas, or don't, please let me know in the comments. If you are looking for meaning as a man, I would highly recommend you listen to Dr. Jordan Peterson in the interim: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-USg3NR76XpQ.html

Long time watcher here. You are right on the money with standing up for masculinity and saying there is in fact nothing to be ashamed of for being a man, and teaching our young boys how to be proper men. The sad thing is that people are divided now, and don't have open minds. A big me vs you mentality these days and i'm afraid all the pc and feminist men out there lack the ability to see others' sides and rarely practice what they preach about letting people be who they want to be.

I've had this discussion with my son before, sadly he can't find the words right away, as many boys, even me his age couldn't do it. So can I ask you, what you said? How did you react, what did you say in your defense? These sorts of things really bother me. I feel so empathetic to our young men and want to help.

Well , I've watched you and Jerr for a long time , always enjoyed the quality of the videos and the good character presented. I remember , as a small kid , playing ' cowboys & Indians during recess , , , circle the wagons , hide the women and save the wagon train , and yes , I'm an old fart that remembers B & W TV :- ) I grew up thinking that football players were masculine and cheerleaders were girls that were curvy and nice to look at, but out of reach for guys with acne. . After I joined the Army , I discovered that if I could shoot a gun , and shoot it well , my acne didn't matter. . Well , I don't think things have changed all that much. . The liberal media has tried to change it though , that's why I don't watch TV so much these days , most of it's pure crap...

I care about our boys. As much as we have encouraged girls in the last 30 years, boys are still a major part of our future. And don't let anyone tell you that you aren't someone now. Your importance or influence on the world will grow with you so long as you ignore all the other crabs in the bucket trying to claw you down. There are very few people that you will find who celebrate your success without taking shots to hold you back. Ignore this. It's lonely at the top - remember that.

When I was a boy in the 40's, my family depended on the squirrels and rabbits I shot for food and I fished daily to add to the fare on the table. Of course, I lived in a rural Texas area where I hunted and fished on a daily basis. In those days, it was expected that young men in the family to do this for sustenance and duty. It was a way to teach boys a sense of responsibility, independence, give them exercise and control for animals that had no predators. Thumbs up! Clark

Don't forget about all the daughters out there! My dad was blessed...probably not to his liking..lol with all girls. 3 of us..he took me camping, fishing and hunting. Taught me how to live off the land. I loved it all. So no matter if you have sons or daughters you should teach them what you know.
@TheWoodedBeardsman

I agree. Taking daughters out exposes them to "real men"....so much I hate that it needs to be said that way. It exposes them to MEN (period). The kinds of men that will treat daughters well because they know how to be fair and work hard and provided and care.

The Wooded Beardsman it's gonna take a "real man" to handle my daughter. At 9 years old she has already taken a whitetail deer, turkey, and lots of squirrels. Her deer jerky is better than most, and she also regularly outfishes dad. My son is 3 and he shoots his .22lr and air rifle with me. Some people think that is too young. Some people are knuckleheads. Keep up the great work with your son!!! We don't need to be a dying breed.

Sir you are spot on with your trail side chat. It is amazing to see and hear somebody put themselves out there with a strong opinion. It is a shame that the “norm” are telling our boys to be less aggressive and less masculine. Society has to remember that males and females are different. God made them that way! Go out and be a boy, learn to become a man and learn to take care of your family like God intended you to. Thank you for saying this. God bless you, your boy and your family.

5280 Adventures What's wrong with being less aggressive?
@hayesleo6043
@hayesleo6043 6 лет назад
5280 Adventures the norm isn’t to be less aggressive and less masculine. it’s simply telling boys that you don’t need to act a certain way to be more or less of a man. fathers teach their boys not to cry and act out their emotions and in return it makes them feel alone. they don’t need to fit a certain image to be tough.

The issue with modern society is everyone wants to be so clean. Most parents would rather let their children play video games all day rather than playing in the dirt. When I was a kid I would swim in muddy ponds. We need bacteria to strengthen our immune systems. Nowadays when people are so clean a common flu puts then in a hospital. Keep up the good work woodsman! This is by far my favorite channel! I watch your videos over everything else and also my kids are on my lap watching right along with me

Swam in drainage ponds growing up in Calgary, will still swim for a duck or goose that goes down in the beaver pond( so yes I swim with the muskrats and beavers) Only have the reds where I live ( like almost chipmunk size) so food animals start at rabbit size, bush rabbits ( not hares) are only slightly larger than the grey squirrel ( if society collapses I could hunt greys in Calgary, 6 hour drive away, lol) Have eaten a lot of squirrels in my day but a hp 22lr tends to not leave much of a red squirrel for eating.

I really appreciate you sharing your views on raising a boy. I recently became a father (literally a week ago) and have spent a lot of time thinking about raising a successful man in todays society. I’m 33 and have only been hunting for about 4 years, and it has changed my perspective on life. I have always enjoyed fishing, and outdoor activities but didn’t really understand hunting until I did it. Thanks again, I always enjoy the videos where your son is involved and I can’t wait to share these sorts of activities with my own.

You'll do fine! Congrats. Put yourself in his shoes and show him how to be calm and controlled, that's the most important. Right now I'm teaching my son how to be a good leader and care for other people who look up to him. But first he had to learn how to control his emotions, or at least how he acted on them. He's doing great.

My stance is if you eat meat you cannot condemn hunting and fishing. Conventional meat farming is a worse life, and with wild animals they have a chance to live still but farm animals are destined to end up at the market. People don't necessarily have to hunt or fish but can't deny someone's access.
@jacobward7507
@jacobward7507 6 лет назад
I agree with you there, the funny thing is that the same people who whine about hunting are often the same that jump on the "free-range, organic" marketing ploy. Well you can't get any more free-ranged or organic than something you harvested from the wild!
@JimmyJusa
@JimmyJusa 6 лет назад
Jacob Ward exactly, and they don't understand the feeling of accomplishment of harvesting their own food. The value in that cannot be matched
@TheWoodedBeardsman
@TheWoodedBeardsman 6 лет назад
It's all just virtue signaling. People pretend they are morally superior because they don't do it themselves. Once you see through it, their hate for you becomes empty and they lose. Don't take the bait and turn the tables, it ends discussions quickly. I don't pretend to be a bad person because I hunt, but I don't rub it in people's faces either or bring it up more than necessary.
@JimmyJusa
@JimmyJusa 6 лет назад
The Wooded Beardsman for sure man, my fiance says she could never go hunting herself but doesn't care that I do and wants me to go because the meat is good and so much healthier than store bought, and I've explained my stance on why I hunt
@daltondabee
@daltondabee 6 лет назад
I half agree. As someone who used to work for a major livestock producer, some blood test studies show caged chickens have far lower stress hormones present than free-range chickens. Less predators, less worry about food, constant comfortable temperature, etc. - just like people in 1st world vs 3rd world countries, less stressors on the primal needs of the animal. If I had to be a farm animal it would definitely be a wagyu or kobe cow... but that's another matter. I'm definitely pro-hunting though, keep the species from overpopulating and the individual animals will have more room, food, etc. per head, meaning happier (and tastier) wildlife.

Well I finished the video. I'd say you just keep being you. There is absolutely no one on this planet that was asked prior if he or she wanted to be here or not. No one is put here for a purpose it is up to them if they will serve a purpose to impact humanity or the planet. I tell my kids it's up them if they want to pissing away their lives or get out and take advantage of what there is to offer. I started making videos to just have fun and get my mind off of work and other things and maybe leave something for grandkids to see how it used to be. Since then I've heard from my daughter a few of her classmates are now into bowfishing and the outdoors more now because of my videos. That makes me feel good I admit. If you've seen any of my videos you know my motto is Get off the couch. We must hand down our skills to our young as outdoorsman and women or yes our strong culture we vanish. I love this video. This whole channel actually. I grew up in northern Michigan, my dad worked and so did my mother (it's a pretty poor place in Michigan) so alot of times I would hunt the grouse and squirrels on the land by the house. Take it home and eat it. I loved it. I didn't realize it wasn't "normal" until I went to college. I felt so out of place, but i was me, and i stayed me. my son and I watch the Catfish and Carp channel, and spoke about how they will likely never go fishing with us because they are not in Canada. Today my son asks if Chris and his son are coming to Canada? I laughed and told my son that Chris and his son live in Canada, Ontario, not too far, but far enough. We'll see what happens. He is excited to get out with kid his age.

Just wanted to say you are bang on. As a person who hunts and fishes we shouldn't feel we need to apologize for what we love to do. It wasn't that long ago people had to hunt and grow just to eat or they didn't make it. The people who say what you do is wrong must forget about how their ancestors lived. I think it's great that you get your son out and involved in the outdoors. Society is producing a generation of kids who are just going to be dependents and will lack and kind of problem,social or coping skills. Keep doing what you love to do ignore the haters and kudos to your wife and you for the way you're raising your son who will be a well rounded young man in the future.

It's just as right to do it now as it ever was. We haven't replaced hunting and fishing with anything better...as much as modern agriculture and farming pretends to be better. Now I don't crap all over modern life, I accept it, just as I accept traditional ways and values. I think it's only fair.

I really like and enjoy your videos and I don't mind if you try to satisfy your requirements on masculinity. I'm not here to judge or discuss that, just do what you think is right. BUT, since your audience is international, please do not just tell kids to go out and hunt squirrels. In some countries (like Germany) you can't just go out and hunt/shoot at squirrels, so at least mention that or limit it to Canada next time you talk about something like that. Other than that, this was an awesome video, as usual ;) Will there be a video about the skinning? Or do they still keep getting demonetized?

i remember as a little boy asking my dad to take me fishing even though he never did it himself. he would just say "we'll go sometime" but never took me. i think from a young age i started to notice the lack of masculinity in the household and wanted to spend quality time with my dad outdoors to try to change things. i had this desire to explore. all of that was suppressed and i grew up with no direction/purpose in life. but as an adult now, i need to stop making excuses and start doing. i mainly just want to move out of here and become financially independent and meet like minded individuals. i found that i do not identify with anyone in my family at all and the internet became my escape. thank you for these inspirational videos. they help a ton!

I grew up with a little bit of fishing and no hunting. These last several years I have gotten huge into fishing, pursuing every species of fish colorado has to offer. As soon as I gain my gun rights back (long story) i will be starting my hunting journey. I love watching your videos! They make me hate that i dont have access to a firearm, too broke right now to buy a bow and have no where to practice. I have 1 friend who hunts, i bought a gwp from him, and am trying to get him to take me out for squirrel and duck, then eventually bigger game. Im very fascinated by the way you use all of your surroundings. Living in a bigger city I see all these "men" that have never experienced these opportunities before and it shows. When i have children I will be showing them how to be self sufficient just as you are. Thank you for the videos and standing your ground! We are a dying breed of men in the west sadly.

The world needs more men like you sir. I am happy I have found this channel. I grew up in the country, I had parents that were very outdoorsy, but my school and teachers feminized me and sad to say, it worked. It took years to undo everything that I was taught and to change my behavior to what it was meant to be. I went through so many relationships, couldn't keep a girl because I was always the "nice guy" the "pretty boy" etc... One day, around the age of 24, I decided enough was enough. I decided I was going to stop letting people walk all over me. I started speaking up for myself, as awkward as it was, and I was going to make something of myself. I am now at the age of 28 and am so happy at what I've become. But there is still much I have to learn and re-learn. The one thing I learned from this video is that the best way for me to become what I was biologically meant to be is to go get my gun and get back outdoors. Thank you again for this video, and God bless you sir. Subscribed!

I don't comment on videos very often, but i just wanted to take a minute to thank you for your trail side chat. It really connected with me as a young man of 23. I've been having a really rough time the last few years, and this subject has been on my mind frequently. I appreciate you taking a stance and trying to explain that, by nature, boys and men are going to act and feel differently than women. Its so frustrating that our society is trying to disregard gender roles when we've evolved over thousands to millions of years to fit and carry out those roles, not just physically but mentally and emotionally as well. In my personal situation i have been one of the more capable individuals among my peers throughout my life, I've always been one of the smartest people in my class, and i've always exceled in physical challenges as well. Competition was never something my family or my school or even my martial arts dojo taught or talked about in the way you just did and it has caused me to not TAKE as much as ive been capable. One of the most frustrating truths i have encounted that you mentioned is that women are not attracted to the features they describe, they only care if they are benefitting from you or are making them feel special somehow. As in you are cute and nice but ONLY to them so they feel exclusive and they know you arent going to be sharing with anyone except them. I think a big problem if mine is that i never learned how to be an asshole properly. Could you talk about this concept in a chat? The fact that as a guy being an asshole is a skill because you have to be enough of an asshole to make everyone want to earn your respect, but not so much that people will avoid including or interacting with you. Thanks so much for your content brother, keep it up and continue to speak your mind.
@TheWoodedBeardsman
@TheWoodedBeardsman 6 лет назад
That would be a great talk. The short note is, DO YOU. Find you and just keep doing it over and over and over again. If it bothers people, but it's you, do it more, do it until it feels comfortable to piss people off, but only if it's who you are. That's what being an asshole means. You can still care for other people, but it's a by-product of being who you are and comes from excess that you have managed to grab hold of and take. I'm on FB if you want to reach out: facebook.com/chris.leclair.35
