I enjoyed that and really liked your reaction though you did not show 2 salient and fun points ike Lei asking Tom for HIS I.D. and Tom's reaction when Lei DID,, belatedly return to work on the following Monday having told him earlier "Nobody is chasing you now Frank!".... I've seen some comments talking about the movie being a "dramatization" or "exaggeration" -- I'm going to raise this by calling it 99% fiction. In 2020, Alan C. Logan released a rebuttal of Abagnale's claims. It was discovered that he was not only caught by the authorities all the time, but most of his victims were modest individuals who he robbed blind. He did fly a couple thousand miles over the course of four months, but his big mouth made him pay the piper, still. Catch Me If You Can, however, is still a fantastic movie.

Abagnale's biggest con was in fact his autobiography.

It's like the universe is playing a practical joke on us when it turns out that Abagnale's biggest con was his autobiography itself.

32:40: "Because that totally happens in real life." You do realize the movie is based on the non fiction autobiography of Frank Abagnale, right? I mean, yes, it does happen in real life. And specifically to him in real life.
@criminalcontent
@criminalcontent 8 месяцев назад
To be fair, this is a fictionalized account of real life events. Many, many creative liberties were taken by Spielberg with Frank Abagnale's real life. Sort of like in The Untouchables where the Canadian Bridge and Train Station Stairway sequences actually never happened. So we stand behind Amelia's offhand remark on those grounds, lol.
@meliakelle
@meliakelle 8 месяцев назад
I do realize that now (looked up his story after watching and it was pretty fascinating!), but when the dramatization is on Spielberg’e level, I tend to separate the actual real life event from the fictional one right in the moment. “Because that totally happens every day” probably would’ve fit better, lol
@zedwpd
@zedwpd 8 месяцев назад
To be even fairer. While the story is somewhat fictionalized, they event in question did happen. Frank Abagnale really did get pulled from prison to help the FBI! While he was serving time for fraud, the FBI reached out to him for help with catching other fraudsters and improving their own methods for tracking down criminals. They were impressed by his ability to impersonate different professions and figured that he could provide valuable insights into the minds of fraudsters. So, they struck a deal with Abagnale - he would help them catch other criminals, and in return, he would receive a reduced sentence. This unique arrangement actually led to the creation of the FBI's Financial Crimes Unit, which continues to use Abagnale's expertise to this day. @@criminalcontent

And we can't even blame all the issues on the "fictionalization" by the filmmakers. By this point, several researchers have definitively proven that the great majority of what's in that so-called "non-fiction autobiography" didn't actually happen. Abagnale's biggest con was in fact his autobiography itself.

A book which has now been debunked and basically most of it was lies. His biggest con IS the book.

What's almost as good as another Scorsese movie? Spielberg at his most Scorsese! 😄 I'm not a big Spielberg fan post-Close Encounters, but this one is so good. I wouldn't even know it was Spielberg's work if I didn't see his name on the credits, he's really working in a different style than he usually does. ( I can't think of a single trademark Spielberg shot in the whole movie, offhand.) Loved this reaction! Amelia is great! I especially love how she recognizes ever song playing in the background! Makes me want her to watch any movie with a good soundtrack! Makes me wish "American Graffiti", "Dazed And Confused", "Boogie Nights" and "American Werewolf In London" were crime movies! 😄 Thanks Criminal Content! I am really loving this channel!

Another great reaction Amelia, and welcome to this channel, i watch your reactions on the Popcorn Roullette Channel. This movie its so good its one of my favourites and what a deluxe cast. And some fun facts about this movie, it took 22 years for the book to be turned into a movie. and frank abagnale admits that the story was exaggerated. Carl Hanratty is based on several FBI agents who pursued Frank Abagnale, mostly one named Joseph Shea. Keep up the amazing work. If it were true-to-life, christopher walken would hardly be in this movie. In real life, Abagnale never saw his father again after he ran away. But Spielberg wanted to have Frank Jr. continue to seek his father's approval, to show up in his Pan Am uniform to impress him and seek advice from him. Jennifer Garner only had to work for one day. Spielberg had seen Jennifer Garner on Alias and thought she was about to become a big star. He was pleased that she was willing to take such a small role in his movie, and she was probably pleased, too: it only required a day of shooting. The film’s score was composed by the legendary John Williams, known for his iconic collaborations with Spielberg. Williams’ music enhances the movie’s suspenseful moments and injects emotion into the heartfelt scenes, creating an unforgettable cinematic experience. Frank Abagnale Jr. appears in a cameo role as a French police officer in the film.I think this adds an intriguing layer of authenticity to the movie, as the audience gets a glimpse of the real-life con artist. Btw i love your quotes during the movie from the "The three amigos" "The hunger Games" "22 Jump street" "Cinderella" love it! Lol Keep up the good work i hope to you more of you on this channel too.

Only thing i didn't like about this movie is it kept jumping around chronologically. The book version is in chronological order and makes a better story.

Enjoyed the reaction Amelia. Yes, the entire movie is fake - it "cons" the viewers at the finale, but it doesn't make it any less entertaining.

Well, as a filmmaker, I totally get that it wouldn’t be a movie without any kind of dramatization 😅 It was certainly entertaining, I’ve watched it a few more times since the reaction and caught some things I didn’t catch the first time.

Naaah, this must change a bit. We don't know anything about your previous knowledge about the movie. Also nothing about you as a reactor. We want to connect with you to keep following you. But maybe the most annoying.... Where are the final thoughts on the movie you reacted to. We got nothing to know about what you liked or not liked? I firmly believe that constructive criticism can help correct things... Let's see what happens. Much Love to you and Ukraine 💙💛💙🌻🌻🌻

Appreciate the constructive criticism! I’m only one of many reactors on this channel and I’m fairly new to reactions but happy to take any advice to improve! I typically would go into reactions with as vague knowledge as possible about the movie, but I’ve started skimming the plot and cast list beforehand and plan to make more comments in future reacts. Finals thoughts also noted as well :) I had quite a few here, especially after watching the movie a few more times and reading Frank Abagnale’s story.
